Im southwest UK and used to see the Harriers flying below me through a valley whilst out mountain biking, such a badass sight n sound 👍 Plus Concorde flying over 3pm daily 😊
Now THAT is a plane I have to add to my wish list. That looks like a hell of a lot of fun. And your landings are fantastic for someone who is only ust getting started on the airicraft. That landing on the ship looked brilliant to my non-naval eye. Thank you for this!!! YOu had fun doing it, I know, But i had fun watching it. I've been a fan of this aircraft since the 1980s whenn i was iin my early 30s and the Falklands war was filling the news bulletins. There were just so many great stories about it, and something called "Viffing", which i never quite grasped, but for the persuing Argentinian pilots the Harrier would seem to just stop suddenly in the air, then popup right behind them. MAGIC!
VIFFing is possible, like slamming the brakes on mid-flight. But it was also advertised to scare the enemy. Ultimately just like a super effective air brake! Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Viffing was more of a publicity thing, could have been used as a last ditch manuvre but it's a one off move. As all fighter pilots know he who has the energy usually wins !! Viffing dumps your energy and you'll be picked off. As Chris says it's really a great way of stopping real quick. 😎👍
This Harrier looks amazing. Can't wait to get my hands on it. You've been cheating by flying this in blue skies - it cries out for a Chris special: low-level tactical, marginal weather, high precision time on target kind of flying! Congrats on 10k subs! Thoroughly deserved, your kind of flying makes for a really enjoyable channel, thank you.
Oi, mate. I have been watching your vids for a few months now; very, enjoyable, and thank you for them. I am looking froward to this aircraft. I have a lot of the aerobatic types and STOL. I will normally crash land the former and land the later. Thanks again hope to watch your videos again soon. Cheers.
@@cgaviator Flying the Hawk today pulling out of a dive, I somehow exceeded the airplanes sedatives and damaged it and was un-ceremonially sent back to the dugout.
@@cgaviator You know it's hard to say, from where I was sitting, I would have guessed not more than 1.g or so. It was a turning dive, (maybe a wing over?), pulling up trying to come on to a heading. I must have too many planes to try and get used to. We should all have these problems.
Nice! Love the DCS Harrier too. You know you can land on the seafront moving ships too right? Try the Harpers Ferry Class yiu saw. It should be more than big enough.
I did, it falls off. It’s like the harrier can land on the surface, but doesn’t move with it once on the deck, hence I just slide off the back. Not sure where the bug is.
Very rarely does the AV-8B do vertical take off on ship. It will burn up the deck. It will do a full takeoff then at the end of the deck, flip to 90 percent on the nozzle, drop just below the deck and then fly off.
Nice Chris, can't see if the wind vane is working in the correct sense yet. I know th at great care had to be taken in the hover to face into any wind or an adverse yaw could develop flipping the aircraft. Many accidents with fatalities happened this way. Also I was wondering how long the water cooling works for? And if you run out in the hover does the engine blow 😳 I know this is not study level and still I can't wait for its release. How about some nasty weather recoveries to ship fog etc like during the Falklands campaign 😂😎 thanks again for the info and content cheers Garry.
I can’t categorically say the programmed effect of the water. Like I say, it’s early. And I’m not sure if the engine blows or simply thrust is lost, any info on this?
Hmmmm well you won't be hovering without the water cooling and probably the damage done as you run out of water may try the engine. If you do manage to land ...... the crew chief will want a chat with you...... big job to change a Harrier engine. Remove wings etc 😎👍😳
Do you ever play DCS? I bought the Hawk in msfs and followed your tutorials and it led to me making the jump to DCS. It’s nice having real missions to do and things to explode although it’s not as pretty as msfs.
MSFS is a simulator, not a game. It's a tool that we use to learn how to fly, Not blow things up. But with that said, it is nice to jump on that every once in a while to make some explosion! Lol.
@@Foxtrot_EW don’t open that can of worms! 😅 Simulators are also used to practice blowing things up. And sadly, this sim is exceptionally poor in terms of flight dynamics close to the stall. It’s got a long way to go 👍🏻
@@cgaviator I suppose some people do. I don't. I just use it as a tool because I'm trying to get my pilot's license. Imagine how much a hour of instruction in the real one would cost. Pretty sure the airforces could save some flight hours when they would use simulators extensively, not sure to what extent simulator training is used for initial instruction/proficiency training? In the german airforce pilots often complaining not getting enough flying on the real deal... at least procedural trainings should be effective in simulators, too. Time to say thanks for your service, please dont charge the real rate!💙 PS: Is it me or is the cockpit looking convex, easy noticable by the nav interface. Cant imagine that the visibility in the real airframe is that limited if you look at the instruments below it. Always mentioning these distortions as they are just noticable in some airframes, havent found the common denominator. Maybe its the headtracking or its only me. Whatever, thx!
I would say it’s the camera zoom and head tracking. The cockpit is excellent! And simulation is a big thing especially with the 5th gen fighters being so expensive to fly. Alot of jet training is also supplemented by simulation and VR. It’s getting pretty cool!
@@cgaviator Great to hear that extensive training hasn´t to be too expensive. Usually germany is some decades behind such developments, yet in some years probably someone will tell them... 🤔😅 Zoom level isnt the answer for the distortions unfortunately. Great video! You only need water for VTOL ops, normal STOL and conventional take off and landing you can leave it off. Remember only 90 seconds worth!
