Great video guys. My current trike is about 8YO and I’m due for an upgrade. I hope to buy another recumbent trike this year and this model and set up looks really good. Please keep up the helpful videos for those of us that don’t have a dealership close to home! I know ICE is a rock solid brand and you’ve been very good to me on every transaction.
Have this system on my new Adventure, and it is every bit as good as you suggest. The Enviolo is always providing the drive you need, providing you dont confuse it by suddenly trying to pedal much faster or harder. Use boost on gradients or to get up to speed on the flat, then drop back to trail mode. Who needs to change gears now?😊
I have a Sprint X Tour non-suspended and I love it. I have no assistance on my ride and I’m hardly ever drained at the end of my rides. The Sprint X Tour is great I had a few different options added, which made the final build a little over 6k.
I purchased an ICE Adventure HD with a Shimano 6100 and the Enviolo Automatiq. I tend to ride up to 60 miles at a time. My riding style is to periodically slow down as a break rather than stopping, and I like to change my cadence. That is not easy to do on the fly with a phone app. While the Automatiq worked well, it didn't suit me so I updated to a Rohloff Speed Hub and I absolutely love it. For shorter rides around town, I have a Specialized Turbo Como 5 IGH with the Enviolo Automatiq and in that application, the Enviolo Automatiq is GREAT. The one difference of note is that Specialized uses the Brose motor and and the MasterMind TCU (the computer/controller) has the ability to adjust the target cadence of the Automatiq. The moral of this long-winded story is I agree with Garrett! The Enviolo Automatiq is great technology, but make sure to do a test ride that simulates your desired use case.
@@raymondo162 Do you mind expanding on what you mean by “wrong gear”? I haven’t experienced one of these so your comment is confusing to me. Thank you.
@@brianwiirre5110 If you are going up a hill and in too high low a gear , your cadence will be low and you will struggle, if too low a gear , your legs will be spinning too fast .
I thought the N380's were discontinued as knowing Organic Transit bought a butt load of them and ended up failing with those CVPs they only sold 14 units with the electronic shifter (used to work for them building the last 2 ever Organic Transit ELF's ever in 2021)
Does it also fold with the rack option ICE provides as accessoires? I could imagine that i blocks the back tire from folding in between the front. How does it work?
So I absolutely love how the Rohloff performs and feels. As far as IGHs go Rohloff is definitely one of the best in my opinion. It's an incredible manual option for sure. I also believe that the Automatiq was meant for a different kind of rider. I used to do a bunch of bike touring so the Rohloff I prefer slightly more as I can more easily adjust my pace and cadence, but the Automatiq is just a blast. Nothing to worry about other than steering really. It makes it really nice to just hop on and get a ride in. It's definitely targeted towards more casual riders, but I had plenty of fun testing it out. So, all in all it really depends on the riding you're doing. I'd say it's one of those things that if I could have one of each I would, but if you have the opportunity, definitely test ride one of each and find out which one is better for you! I hope this helps! -Garrett
We installed the Ice Seat mounted Side Bar and then attached an extra handlebar stem of a bike, then we just had the other end of the handlebar stem hold the camera mounted stick that came with our 360 camera.
I have the manual version of the N380 and a TSDZ2 on my cargo bike. Great combo! I'm curious about the automatic, but seriously, the manual changing is no biggie, and I love the smooth operation of the N380.
You should really consider adding a automatiq unit. I use a reise&muller bicycle with bosch cx (85nm) with it and after 8000km i can tell ypu it opens up a whole new way of riding. i do about 50km a day and have not shifted in ages and always at your personal peddle speed in my case i somehow end up at 68rpm.
Have an ICE Sprint X 26 Tour. Wouldn't want an electric motor due to range which I assume will be similar to a mountain bike with an e8000 motor which can be a low as 20 miles in trail mode with a 500w battery. The Sprint X is designed for touring which is alot more than 20 miles. my manual trike using a rohloff 14 speed hub combined with 3 chainrings (44-32-22) has no issues with hills as very low gearing but can hit 30mph before spining out.
Everyone needs to understand that this is an *integrated* motor/transmission system. The Enviolo Automatiq HUB will not work with any other motor because it requires compatible torque and cadence input data from the Shiamo EP8 motor to operate. That should have been mentioned at some point in the video.
I have an Enviolo Automatiq on my Specialized Turbo Como 5 IGH. You can coast at any time. The hub should automatically change the gear ratio as the wheel speed slows down, so the ratio should be correct at whatever speed you resume pedaling.
We didn't really choose the EP8 over the Bafang for this video per se, but it was that the Shimano EP8 and the Enviolo Automatiq combo is one of the packages ICE offers from the factory. So we ordered one up to be able to test it in its factory configuration! -Garrett
@project2501 It's an *integrated* system; it must have the compatible torque and cadence input from the motor to operate.TheBafang would not supply this essential data and therefore would not work. Also, as with a car,an automatic transmission can only take so much torque, and theBafang 1000 Watt is considerably more powerful than the Siamano 250Watt motorand could overwhelm the Enviolo unit
This setup sounds great for touring. A couple of questions, What mode was the motor in for this vid? Eco?, Trail? What gear does the hub go to when you are rolling free and not pedaling ?
In this video, I was in boost for I'd say 90% of the ride and in tour for the other 10%. As far as coasting goes, the hub seems to hold steady at whichever ratio it was in when coasting and immediately adjusts when it senses pedal input again. -Garrett
As with a car, an automatic transition will usually not be as efficient as a manual; this is *especially* important when your energy supply is as hard limited as it is with any battery system. This is an excellent, well designed system and has valid applications, but I would stick with the Rohloff, superb and easy shifting without the limits, issues, and complexities associated with an automatic system. Just my two cents. Decide for yourself. It's sure tempting, but because it requires an OEM install, you only get one chance to get it right, and it would be difficult and costly to convert back to a manual if you found you didn't like it after you purchased it. Just my two cents. Decide for yourself based on your own needs.

These trikes do get expensive but we actually do have a trike around the 1K range! The Sunseeker brand trikes are more affordable and a great intro to triking. The Sunseeker Eco Tad is near 1K with a price of $1400 and if you wanted to go even cheaper the Eco Delta 3 SX is a bit cheaper at $1289.
ICE are never going to produce a trike around 1K, but if your budget is limited, then look for a second hand model like the ICE QNT, TNT, Explorer, Trice Mini, Pioneer or Micro and you might be able to get something much cheaper to start with. I´ve previously owned the Ross Trice (Pre ICE), the Pioneer and the QNT, and 2 years ago bought my first electric assist Sprint X Tour, and that was a life changer, initially with only rear suspension as it was as much as I could afford, I later upgraded to have the front suspension and changed the tyres to GT365 to make it the equivalent of the special edition Sprint X 365.
ICE Trikes are among the best in the world. My 4th is the ICE Sprint X Tour with E6100 motor, full suspension and Alfine 8 speed hub. It cost me a total of €9k. Ok, I could buy a reasonable car for that, but it's still worth every penny. I'm having the time of my life and don't care what this cost.
it must have been a cheap car! My Sprint X Tour cost €7,600 and after upgrading to full suspension and changing the tyres it ended up costly €9k. 4 years ago I bought a new Peugeot 3008 SUV with 2km on the clock in a special deal for €26,800, when the list price was €32k. These are mega expensive, but then they are among the best in the world, and you get what you pay for.

Thanks for your review you are the best trike channel for me. I would like to know the setup for your 3D camera on the trike.

Why is that the Shimano Steps and Evolo Hub can be retrofitted?

Does anyone know a solution, for a bicycle with three wheels, one on the back, where the steering should be? The solution for rear wheel steering.

nice - thanks for the information! Question, is an automatic shifting available with NO Motor?
It is not available without the motor. The Enviolo Automatiq uses the motor to determine torque output and the battery of the motor to stay powered.
I need off-road capabilities as well otherwise I'll lose about 50% of the trails I have to ride on. Suggestion?
dO YOU STILL NEED TO ADJUST THE PEDAL ASSIST OR IS THAT AUTO AS WELL?
Everyone needs to understand that this is an *integrated* motor/transmission system. The Enviolo Automatiq HUB will not work with any other motor because it requires compatible torque and cadence input data from the Shiamo EP8 motor to operate. That should have been mentioned at some point in the video.
Can you get the enviolo on a ecat?
Yes you can!
What’s that gizmo on your helmet
A camera.
With the enviola hub do you always have to keep pedaling, or can you also coast?
I have an Enviolo Automatiq on my Specialized Turbo Como 5 IGH. You can coast at any time. The hub should automatically change the gear ratio as the wheel speed slows down, so the ratio should be correct at whatever speed you resume pedaling.
Why use Shimano EP8 over Bafang's 1000W? Just for the torque sensing?
