I remember it well. It's just that the last 25 years he's been a host whose job it is to ask questions and not always state an opinion. Where as this video shows he's way sharper than those who he's asking the questions too.

There was almost absolutely no mention from Shearer, Lineker, and all the other pundits about Costa Rica, the leader of the group. They completely and utterly underestimated my country, I mean, if they mentioned the country twice that would have been a lot. It was Henry who mentioned them most and there was no pundit commentary on this country. You need to start recognizing teams and giving them credit. Football is no longer the same and teams considered nothing by the English must now get respect as England had to painfully learn this time around...
Costa Rica deserved the win against Holland , but they should be proud , played good football , good Team , I liked them watching . Greetings from Germany .

This happens over and over: great players capable of brilliance but lacking in planning and preparation. Hoddle, Keegan, Eriksson, McClaren, Capello, all promising everything but failing. We really should be hammering most teams in the world by at least 3 goals and getting the better of sides like Germany and Brazil on at least a regular basis, but what do we have? Scraping through qualification more often than not, having to rely on other results. If the bloody managers were told they wouldn't get paid unless England won silverware, you know as well as I do they wouldn't accept the job. As for the FA, they forced Terry Venables out when he probably would have won us France 98, and went for Keegan just because the crowd chanted his name a few times. Great bloke, underachieving manager. McClaren was a yes man without the ability to do the job and Sven and Capello were touted as the big cheeses who turned out to be Dairylea Triangles. Gareth's doing the job well if 2018 is anything to go by but we need silverware in at least the Euros or the next World Cup, whenever they get played.
Hello Euan. I disagree with you a little...why 'should' we be beating most teams by three goals? There's no reason why we should see off Germany and Brazil more frequently. It's something to do with the tournaments themselves...we have got the better of Germany/Spain/France etc. in friendlies but whenever we come up against a skilful side in a tournament we lose out. 2018 was better than anything for a long while, but to be honest we lost to the more seasoned teams (Belgium twice and Croatia). I'm not sure if any manager would have improved things since Venables...we lack players of guile and creativity.

I've not much faith in the FA who seem to think we are still in the 1960's, and the managers between Venables and Southgate, who are brilliant, promised much but delivered nothing. I don't wish to see our national team disintegrate against Iceland ever again. Our players usually play like a bunch of strangers, and they spend three quarters of the match passing sideways and backwards. Noone dribbles anymore, it's all one touch passing with woeful inaccuracy. Gareth's doing a fine job, but I believe we should be beating teams convincingly rather than scraping through by the skin of our teeth.
@@alastairgiddings8264 not true. Sancho Rashford sterling Foden grealish maddison all have guile. We lacked a midfield player at the World Cup who could dictate play. Like a modric. We have players like foden now who can do that. Harry winks Loftus cheek. English players are becoming more technical now
