@@Grandmastergav86 This seems so true. I am just a casual who has limited knowledge of the finer tactics of football, but one thing I have noticed over the years (being an elderly guy) is that the FA don't seem to like strong independant thinking managers and end up getting rid of them e.g. Ramsey, Venables etc. (Brian Clough had no chance from the off) Southgate (who lets be fair has done fairly well result wise) does and says all the right things that the FA want e.g. taking the knee and seemingly not upsetting anyone. No one is talking about Walkers post match interview. "No one wants to be blamed if they get around you". That right there shows why they don't move up the pitch.
The way the media/fans have treated players who have made defensive errors in games (Dunk, Maguire, Chilwell, Trent for example) is incredibly toxic and it's hard to imagine this not filtering through to the players.
The strange fact is Trent was actually solid for what Southgate wants from him, if Southgate wants a Liverpool, he should play him where it's best, simple, German pundits said this
Thank you for your calm, professional analysis of the England performance. And also for not going in on Trent like the other idiots. Everyone was crap, and that can only be on the manager. I cannot understand why we insist on playing so many players out of their natural positions?
He does that because he is scared of tel he backlash of not taking certain players or not playing them. Strictly speaking Southgate is right about Philips in that yes we don’t have a real dm, of Philips experience. We have two sat on the bench but god knows why he has take. Them.
One aspect to Gareth was that thought we had learned from the past. I assumed we start to play players in positions they were comfortable with. English football seems to rapidly producing good and effective forward thinking midfielders. It almost seems too rapid for the national team to keep up with. That and the demands of club football ensure we play to none of our team’s strengths. We also fail to establish our best formation or best 11 prior to a tournament.
@@jimmycburfield5997 To hear Southgate say he was Experimenting?? In a Tournament?? Sums this total muppet up. Cole Palmer and Gordon two of our most forward thinking and Energetic players never got off the bench. Yes Southgate still came out with he couldn’t understand where the energy was?? Probably the defensive tactics and lacklustre press because of the Defensive tactics!! I have this view he will start with exactly the same team and tactics.
Can't beat Denmark, the great footballing nation of European football.we can beat them with boys from Adelaide united.dont worry mate you will be out soon enough I will message you next week to discuss 😂😂😂😂
Southgate said he didn’t tell the players to sit back which… either means the players aren’t bothering to listening to him anymore or he’s just a bad manager who can’t motivate his players? Either way… terrible look
Really the responsibility sits with the manager. If you tell your players to press and they aren't doing it then you need to take them off. Southgate spent far too staring at a situation which needed to be rectified in the first half. There's this horrible passivity that I really can't stand. The team is good enough, the manager has plenty of experience at tournament football now and yet we're playing like a side that's just happy to have made it through qualifying for the competition. Can we honestly say that a Germany, France, Portugal or Spain are going to be worried about playing England in the knock out stages?
Southgate is lying. Not once do you see him urging the players forwards or pressing, he is satisfied to have a very defensive mindset and a fear based strategy fixated on the opposition. He’s been a defender all his life and had to deal with that England penalty failure for 30years. He’s showing us his own mindset, play defensive, don’t concede, don’t make mistakes or else you will be vilified. Only when the opposition score, are the players allowed to free themselves from Southgate’s cage.
Great video I would bring in Gordon; he is so direct and is pretty cocky! I think he’d be a real weapon on the left. Yes with Trent, I don’t think we’ll ever know what he could’ve done with players running for him as passing options
I'd look deeper than Southgate for the malaise. The FA want a manager who will say the right things in an interview and above all protect the reputation of the FA (like what was happening at the Post office for years). Instead of appointing a great football brain they always choose a diplomat. That's why we have underachieved for 40 years.
I’m in my 50s. In a sad kind of way watching these videos amuses me. Aside from Euro 96, England have always played like this at international tournaments. Tight, anxious, nervy. You’re all saying what the rest of us have been saying for years. I rarely watch international football now - The FA aren’t interested. They’ve all got cushy jobs and don’t want that threatened by anyone. Hence Southgate.
Well said. The FA, even as a youngster, they were sherry sipping curmudgeons who had never even attended football matches as a fan and preferred cricket. Now, it's still a political reward for elitists who mock the working class as uneducated pagans.
@@jostaniforth7407 Yeah, probably played the best football overall, although I think we tend to skip over the fact that they were pretty lucky in the match against Spain.
I think youre wrong when you say the personnel wouldn't change the gameplay. I think even just taking fodder out for gordon would create width on the left, as he would stay wide and look to run in behind, thus giving Trent more options to hit long diagonals. But, personally I would take Trent out, and id have a Kobbie or Wharton playing the deepest role, with Jude and Rice either side, with saka and gordon high and wide, and possibly even Watkins up front. There's a lot of issues with this England side, but I think that's a good place to start. Side note - Cole Palmer not getting a kick is criminal.
Wrong. Foden has performed better than basically every player in terms of work rate. We’ve talked about “Southgate getting in in form players” for the last 6 years mate, so now you want to take our premier player of the season? Get Bellingham where Trent is, get Foden is CAM, you create options on both the left and right wing, plays to England’s advantage and creates attacking momentum on the last 30 mins by replacing the right side with Palmer etc etc. Need I repeat that trying to put Bellingham on a CAM position is NOT his best position, Belligham is a box to box midfielder. Play to our strengths, don’t patch up weaknesses
@@stinkrat1016 Still gordon will do better in the team than foden...it's a valid assumption...Bellingham and foden both will do well if england utilize both flanks
@@stinkrat1016 putting Bellingham at 8 doesn’t fix the problem though. I’m not saying he can’t play there, but rice and Bellingham works no better than rice and Trent. The problem where both Trent and rice have been causing problems is when they get the ball from our defence neither is good in that role. It’s where Trent looked his worst, rice hasn’t played this year because arteta had to put partey in. You could just replace Trent with Wharton or mainoo, that gives you a press resistant player who can turn with the ball. Rid eplays 8 and Bellingham plays in the 8/10 gap. Foden can still play off the lw. Then you bring Trent on with Gordon which is more logical.
Both of those players are also learning the position at premiership level expecting a lot from inexperienced players. Shows the weakness in the squad that the choices for the 6 role are all rookies in that position.
I'd also give Gomez a run out at left back if you're going to play Gordon. Trippier has been solid, but offers zero going forward. The whole left side needs a refresh.
Great video mate, as always love your content and insight. I agree in terms of his tactics, the press is so badly organised even when they choose to initiate the press. Goal kicks seemed to be a problem yesterday which is baffling. Rice wanted Pickford to play short, the midfield didn’t have enough time to push up, the header gets cleared into midfield by Denmark and the midfield aren’t there to challenge. Such a clear lack of instruction. The days of shoehorning players in should be behind us. Foden as an inside left forward doesn’t work, he is way too narrow and we can’t use the width of the pitch. I see two ways going forward. 1. Bellingham dropping and playing along side Rice. Foden playing as a 10 with Gordon playing on the left. Kane can then drop more effectively to play the two runners out wide with Foden pushing on. Bellingham can of course then choose when to run on too. 2. Drop either Bellingham or Foden and play Wharton along side Rice. IMO Whartons ability is super underrated as a player, his ability to pick a quick progressive pass on the half turn and play out under pressure into the next phase is way beyond his years. With him alongside Rice we can then either play Foden or Bellingham at 10. Gordon on the left. For either of those options I would also question Kanes position because we need runners in behind and pressing players. He doesn’t give us either of those options. He doesn’t run in behind anymore and his press is poor. I’d argue Watkins should start, he looked bright when he came on and he was stretching their defence. In terms of Trips at LB, Gordon is used to having Burn behind him who doesn’t offer much support going forward so he’s more used to it than others. Tripper obviously isn’t very comfortable at LB going forward but at least defensively he’s been solid.
1) doesn’t fix the problem we have in getting control of midfield. Bellingham is no better at getting the ball off defenders and turning. 2) is the answer
gareth cant even give minutes to one of the stand out big players of the season cole palmer. that alone shows what we are up against. and pundits are focusing on the players. the manager is a total disgrace. not fit for purpose, cant put the best team together, he picks players. u want trent? use him on 60mins when you bring on watkins, from RB. why put him in a dbl pivot when there is no movement and a slow tempo?? what good is he for us there. wont go on, gareth is england manager and cant see this.
Southgate could achieve what he did in the past with basic defensive players like Maguire performing a low block. Thats also why Maguire “looked good” in an england shirt: a low block counterattackkng team suits his abilty and southgates tactics. Now he is required to get the most out of attacking players who suit pressing he fails.
@@AF-gd7fh In other words, it's not really true, is it? It's been statistically tested a number of ways in every sport and it's true in none of them. Offence & defence are equally correlated to success. It's just good teams tend to have good defences to accompany a potent attack, so it's correlated but not causative. His entire philosophy is based on a fallacious understanding of football, shockingly enough. Good defence and bad attacking gives you penalty shootouts and not a whole lot more
💯🎯 It's amazing that even the english pundits who are paid to analyse football can't figure this out. All of them talking about dropping Kane, Foden, TAA. And all the while I'm like no wonder England haven't won anything since 66. No one knows anything about tactics including their coaches. The system has always been the problem, it was never about players. It's ironic that Southgate was linked with the Utd job, cuz united under ETH had the exact same problem England have-the massive space btw the attack and defense due to a dysfunctional press.
Gareth Southgate has the rarest talent of producing the worst possible football with the best possible bunch of players. I have been watching his teams ever since he took over. Here is a summery how his teams play - from a football non-pundit. 1. None of his players run, change position continuously, or create space while passing. They all stand still, except (sometimes) the one with the ball. 2. Four or five defenders aimlessly pass between each other, thereby driving up possession stats. 3. When eventually they pass the ball to a midfielder, nothing changes . As soon the midfielders see an oncoming opposition player, they pass back to defenders or better still - the goalkeeper. Now Go back to no 2. 4. In case of the other teams - you’ll see one or two back passes and the third player moves the ball forward, and the whole team runs forward. In the England team - it is banned. 5. The England players almost never win one-to-one battles for the ball, or regain possession- which they (are forced to) do for their clubs. 6. Southgate is always green with envy for other managers. So he wants to show off his ‘originality’ by playing players out of their positions and just hopes for something to happen. When it doesn’t work, he has pre - rehearsed answers ready for the Press . I am waiting for the day the England team wins freedom from this man.
and this explains why england players dont get bought by club teams as much as they should be. its craazy to think that the england team we have struggle in such easy games and wokegate wont stand up and say sorry i fucked up. hes the reason the international comps no one likes to watch because we play like we dont know what football is. i want woke southgate out right now he doesnt know how to manage a football team, id have more faith in ten hag being england manager than southgate and thats actually saying something..
England have been going to win everything since 1982,and won nothing.same charts and slide rules will be getting used probably for the rest of this century as well
@@bonglesnodkins329 Sounds inspiring. You could tell yourself that you won the tournament using a legit defensive tactic. But with millions of normies tuning in to watch you play, perhaps entertaining the nation should be more of a priority than tactics to scrape victory..
@@bonglesnodkins329 The point is that if you believe - as a player - that your only job is to take a win in safest way possible, you inevitably suffocate what it means to play football. Nobody goes to the park to play defensive football with their mates. Perhaps the defenders and goalie..? The attacking players and midfield want to see the net bulge or watch as their activity aided the ball to pass between the posts. What you say makes sense on paper. Which is exactly my point. We might be better served as spectators if we had a team that was inspired to be the best, rather than come home with the best 👍
England appear to start most tournaments with one key player in a fitness race recovering from a long term injury. But it has been rare for them not to have a back up for the role. The Luke Shaw situation says a lot about Southgate's lack of basic management skills. If he can't get squad selection right why should we be surprised if he hasn't a grip on tactical matters.
Even I have noticed it's not the personnel at fault it's the system of play. Their 15-20 metres to deep all the time, and the players are far too slow in progressing the ball forward.
It’s baffling. These players can actually play football for their clubs. They can actually win awards, trophies even! But they put on the England jersey, go to a major tournament… and they’re unrecognisable. It’s almost like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Southgate and his coaching staff are the sole cause of the formation, playing players out of position and terrible Pressing. It’s what they have worked on in training. It’s not going to get any better unless Southgate can suddenly change his defensive scheme we are toast.
I said the same about Trent only really having Saka who can run in behind, and the left hand side, agree in that and we need to move the ball a lot quicker.
In fairness to GS, he didnt say we lack a replacement for Kal Philips, but a replacement for A Kal Phillips, ie that kind of player who can recieve under pressure and play a pass upfield like he did for his assist for Sterling v Croatia.
I think a liverpool style 4-3-3 can work (have taa as lb, mid 3 of rice, wharton and mainoo and front 3 of gordon, b'ham and saka in general, but for slovenia, put palmer in for wharton and play rice and bham as 2 8's with palmer a false 9)
He messed up his squad since he made his list of, no Grealish, no Madison, no Rashford, playing TAA in midfield. Completely wrong in the choice of personals, no Maguire, no continuity with CBs, Stone & Guehi are new to each other, no leadership, etc... No wonder they are playing horribly and not going anywhere that way; too many issues to solve.
I think you are spot on and confirms fears about the football acuity of Southgate. He has been very lucky in two tournaments for the sides he has played. There is no mystery as to why he got saved at Middlesbrough, it’s all on show for all to see. With a competent manager we could have won this tournament but with him we won’t unless he has a tactical conversion by divine intervention.
I think Southgate realised in the iceland the way they played through the press and scored the goal and then took advantage of the high press soo he decided to solve both. Press high but he doesnt want to have a high line soo he leaves a massive whole in the middle. He really doesnt trust his backline to recover the ball when the ball falls behind the backline.
Love the Way you broke down England Overall Performance or lack of it.. Please Apply for the England Job when Gareth Loses he's Job..Look Forward to move information on England.. Up Next could be Holland..
💯 it is abject that is when you have to reorganise your approach play. The tactical cohesion is poor. So if the manager can't coach it. Then the players have to go to fundamentals. Pass into space movement to provide options. Medium block and counter.
This explains why England are so slow on the counter attack. Which js a shame because we are missing out on some easy goals from counter attacking, especially with the pace and finishing ability qe have up front.
Very good analysis. I would just add that the attacking play is far too stereotype. Kane does not create any space and the wingers don’t come off the wings. In brief too simple and static.
Its frustrating just watching this and even more frustrating knowing this wont get sorted out any time soon. The only solution is to sack the manager and hope the next manager has enough tactical awareness to address this problem.
Walker is good but doesnt offer the same passing ability as trent at RB. Trent can switch play easily, play through balls and has more control when allowed to push forward in a pressing team. I would put trent there. Gordan on the left for extra pace and beating players.
I played football for 25 years in reserve teams on a very low level on sunday mornings, but even we knew how to press, when not to press and what to do when we lost or won the ball. We knew how to use our strenght and we knew how to conpensate our weaknesses. England didn't, Southgate didn't.
Got to the FINALS last time we had a basic 1-0 win followed by a crap draw in the groups. I have faith in Southgate and so does the team. If your going to iron out problems in a tournament, now is the time to do it, not later on. Quarter, semi and finals in the last three (not in that order) so come on. My only worry is that "turtling up" when we are in the lead will be our undoing AGAIN!!!
If they do make it past the group stage then they have a lot to learn in about themselves and the team they are playing against if there going to go far
I'm not an England fan, but I'm just wondering, if the problem is the manager all along, why hasn't the FA fire him and get a new one, especially after the world cup?
Don’t play a double pivot, play with 2 8s like they practiced in the warm ups. Especially not Trent, who has never played DM/double pivot in his life. And play with a proper LW.
Tactics is the problem but a right footed left back and a left winger driving in, No 10 and N09 occupying the same space are the problems that need to be fixed. Sounds like it is players. I agree the biggest issue is the press but that to an extent is also a player issue.
Without balance on the left, then England are so predictable it’s easy for teams to defend, which frees them up to exploit our other problems. Throw in a lack of a coordinated press which means we end up sitting too deep without an out ball and you can see why Serbia and Denmark both ended up with too much of the ball, without being threatened, in too many dangerous areas. Better teams would have made hay. Whilst it’s not the individual players problem, given the lack of left back and the other problems, we need to get Gordon (or a similar direct, left sided player) to hold the width, and rejig the midfield (Bellingham drops 10 yards Foden moves to the middle) which means losing TTA even though it’s not his fault (and he still is a very good useful player, I just don’t trust Southgate to use him, maybe three at the back and put him at wingback) . There are so many things to fix, it’s difficult to do all of them at once. Fix the left sided problem as best we can, improve the press, move midfield closer to the frontline and see what’s left to resolve. I like Southgate for all the obvious reasons, but it’sundeniable that he lacks the right risk/reward mentality to coach this group of players. They are, largely, front foot players and if you force them to play too conservatively they end up being poor versions of other less gifted players. The left back problem needs to be solved and we really shouldn’t be in the position where we’re trying to solve it here and now. Anyone that can swing a left foot should be in there, even if it means they’re sub the rest of the team. The benefit of having balance outweighs the risk. And if you have the right shape, you can offer that weakness some protection either from lcb , the advanced left sided player (Gordon) or left mid (depending on shape, maybe rice). Kane wants to drop, let him, but for christs sake, get someone beyond him when he does.
So… You’re telling me that if we play a left footed player on the left, and our striker as a striker and if we press & move up the pitch, we might pose a bit of a threat!? Nope. Don’t buy it
Offering a rationale for Gareth Southgate's selections Central defence is bereft - without Maguire, Stones has lost his longtime defensive partner and the player who provided the physicality to adequately compete in aerial duels. I believe Declan Rice's conservative positioning allows him to help in that regard, particularly given Marc Guehi's lack of vertical stature. Talking about Guehi, his lack of experience highlights the fact Southgate is obliged to rely on Stones, even though he is clearly out of form. The way he lingers on the ball is indication enough of his sluggish mentality. Furthermore, various instances in the Slovakia match displayed the lack of communication between Stones and Guehi. On two occasions, they both leapt into the same aerial duel, the first time leading to Schranz's goal. Clearly, Stones doesn't trust Guehi. Neither does Southgate trust, Lewis Dunk, the obvious replacement for Maguire physically. England's foundation then, is reliant on an experienced international a long way from reaching match sharpness babysitting a wholly inexperienced counterpart who doesn't possess complimentary qualities. No wonder Southgate doesn't want to risk exposing them by instructing them to join the press by pushing up the pitch. Defensive Midfield Paucity - Quite simply, England do not have an experienced player who can reliably take the ball from the defenders and pass it forward. Both Rice and Kobe Mainoo are no.8's who are effective roving forward joining the attack. But if they do this, helping to compensate for England's lack of an attacking left-back, central defensive security vanishes. Yet neither player is any good at patiently recycling the ball out of defence into attack. Assuming this tournament is too early for Wharton, the existing midfield partnership will have to do if retaining this formation. No wonder then, that England press half-heartedly and cannot pass out from the back. Our opponents know this. They also know if Saka is squashed, there is no danger in behind, further allowing them to press high onto England's shaky defensive players. The Best Formation - The issues in defence and midfield might be ameliorated by returning to formations Southgate has previously employed i.e. three central defenders and/or three midfielders. However there isn't the personnel to make these work - no left back, no defensive/passing midfielder. But we do have plenty of excellent attacking players, the most of which can be deployed in the current formation. When they tire of pressing in isolation they can be replaced effectively. Conclusion - I'm not defending Southgate here, merely trying to offer some explanation for his decisions. Although England have reached the QF, they have played poorly. It may be this is the best we can hope for given the huge difficulty balancing this team, the lack of several key individuals and player types.
The manager has finally been exposed as utterly clueless. The elephant in the room though which no one is talking about is the slow, plodding, immobile centre forward who is basically a hindrance to the build up play. He can’t move defenders around, offers no threat down the sides or over back creates no space for your Bellingham’s and Foden’s to move into. I don’t care if he scored the winner he should be binned.
Are we reaching a point where we need more than one 'manager'? In the past, the squad was selected by comittee, this is clearly bad. But England have a problem that there is no other manager who is significantly better than who we have. So what is needed is perhaps someone who can work with Southgate who has got some tactical nouse. Everything else Southgate does is excellent, so why not keep him and hire someone who can fill in the gaps in his tactical and coaching ability?
Yes... but the only team i saw press like guy in the video saying is atalanta😅 not even manch city or real press up like atalanta do😅 england playing 3 at the back.. if they press like he saying in the video.. is looks like atalanta style.. but if you miss the pressing is very easy to get counter attacks from the opponent and this are short tournments... with small margin of mistake so.... i think the best pressing i have saw in the last years in majour international tournment was made from italy in 2021 and spain in 2024.. so a balance pressing high.. But the guy in the video want 7 playera to press high to all the pitch😅
This won’t help because the problem is neither of the defensive mids we have are any good collecting the ball facing their goal. Trent does his best work when you play the ball to him going forward, rice is great pushing up and driving, when did Trent get caught against Denmark and Serbia? Facing his own goal get the ball of his defence. Rice got moved out of that position at Arsenal because he isn’t that kind of pressure resistant player. You need a dm like partey/Jorginho only ones we have though are mainoo and Wharton.
Pretty much exactly what I (and I suspect millions more) have been saying since the first game - but thanks for laying it out there so clearly. Given the luck Southgate has had with the draw (yet again) he could conceivably stumble his way through to the semi final, but it does not alter the facts one jot. It just means he is a lucky twat. If he had a tough draw we'd be home already.
Wharton must come in as the single pivot. Sacrifice Rice or Foden and bring Gordon in to occupy the left side. 4, 3 3 with Wharton as the single pivot. Done!!
Declane Rice is no Frank Lampard, Jordan Henderson and James Milner!!!! They need to hope that Mainoo, Foden, Wharton and few others become a very good passing midfielders like Scholes and Carrick!!!! They already have a player in the mold of Stevie G, that's Bellingham but need to improve more and maybe go back a bit to the years of having wingers again, Saka and Gordon with backups!!!!
Conflicts within the team already shown. Bellingham is accused of doing too much by himself in the first game. So Second game, he switched off. Then foden took over and showed every one, he can also play alone. Manager cannot control, Kane has no idea. Both of them needs to be benched. England has enough to go on without the 2 arrogant stars. The lesser players can easily do a proper job. Rice with mainoo or Conor or Walton. Eze or gordon left, palmer free role. Perfect balance without attitude issue.
I'm absolutely done with Southgate. I've always known his level is League one but these last few games have exceeded all my worst fears. He has completely shit the bed
Apologise but pressing isn't the issue. People forget pressing is a very recent trend, plenty of teams have been successful in a mid to low block. The issue is Denmark don't fear England in possession, hence the reason the Danish felt so confident pressing.
These teams are parking the bus so to expect a midfielder to play medium to long range passes "over the top" is about as tactically naive as you can get as theres no space for runners to move into....beating these deep blocks requires the full backs to support the wide men , short quick balls and lots of off the ball movement pressing with the entire tewam in the opponents half , it should never have been an issue with the pace we have at the back. GS is too scared to send men forwards though hence our awful tournament.
@@knockitoffhudson3470He's played as a 10 pretty much the whole season with De Bruyne being out. Pretty sure that Grealish and Doku have played on the left most of the season.
You’re overcomplicating it. Sure, the press is important, but the distinct lack of progressive winger runs means that there are only ever sideways passes, and nearly zero penetratitive passes through defences.
And this video was three weeks old ! We could all see the problems to some extent - left side, left side, left side, but why couldn't SLOTHgate and his backroom team of expensive failures see what everyone else could and change up ? The players looked tired and dispirited, but the style of play doesn't suit them. Our domestic game is played at pace, but our international ones at snail space. Make it make sense. Good job Southgates gone as he would be getting bricks thrown at him next time.
It doesn't matter who the manager is if the players don't perform to there capability there won't win end of change the way they play they should play fast aggressive free flowing attacking football one to two touch passes
I saw a tik tok the other day saying the problem isn't Southgate. It's Pep because he plays a system that's so good that everyone in the Premier League needs to play a system to keep up. So all the players in the England team don't know how to play free expressive football as they're all system players. I wish I could find who posted that and send him this video to show him how wrong he was
The worst thing is all the analyst in England who seem to have all the answers. When Gareth took over England they were quarter final specialists. They tried the best English managers Robson and Venebles. Foreign managers Erikson and Capello. Until he arrived in their entire history they have never won the Euro cup. They only made the semifinal twice. They made made the WC semi final twice winning the trophy once. He has made a Eurocup final and a WC semifinal. He has a 60% win ratio. 4th behind Erickson Capello and Sir Alf who is the only manager more successful . England always have these great players Gerard Lampard who ever. The fact is he is the most successful manager since Alf Ramsey. The record is a fact. He has done more with a country that has less. He never had a Gascoigne a Paul Ince a kevin Keegan. He is a great manager. The players are good not great.

Ingrained in them
The way the media/fans have treated players who have made defensive errors in games (Dunk, Maguire, Chilwell, Trent for example) is incredibly toxic and it's hard to imagine this not filtering through to the players.
The strange fact is Trent was actually solid for what Southgate wants from him, if Southgate wants a Liverpool, he should play him where it's best, simple, German pundits said this
Who the fucks getting round walker?

This is exactly how Man Utd played all season, no press, no energy, hoping for 'moments' and so very easy to play through.
So that's why Southgate was a serious contender as replacement manager. No player retraining required.
The reason player like Park Ji Sung was important for Man Utd back then was because of his pressing, and he has a lot of stamina to do that.

Great video
I would bring in Gordon; he is so direct and is pretty cocky!
Nah, the WC98 team was good as well.
Well said. The FA, even as a youngster, they were sherry sipping curmudgeons who had never even attended football matches as a fan and preferred cricket. Now, it's still a political reward for elitists who mock the working class as uneducated pagans.
@@bonglesnodkins329 Also decent yes agreed. But that 96 squad AT HOME was something else.
It’s all down to his team selection and tactics. We’ve known this for years but his mates in the media have been defending him.

Southgate also brought along an injured Shaw and Mitchell out of the squad. Southgate hasn't got clue how to manage the England squad.

I really like the tactical analysis. Everything that is said is constructive.

What happened to the attacking game we all love to watch? Its not ment to to be a possession game, with no skill, flair or risk
Wait till that German team gets a hold of them...4-0
nah, the germans will play along and stall until penalties. THEN beat england on penalties. just to give them nightmares.
Excellent analysis
Better question.......why are you so nasty?
Congratulations England. Next step the final. Good luck
I'm not an England fan, but I'm just wondering, if the problem is the manager all along, why hasn't the FA fire him and get a new one, especially after the world cup?
Bc they’re all mates probably
Rice, Bellingham, Foden centre mid with 2 wingers ffs with more aggession & pressing. 🏴
Ridiculous. Hiw can they not know how to press? They pressed brazil really well a few weeks ago. So strange.
Don’t play a double pivot, play with 2 8s like they practiced in the warm ups. Especially not Trent, who has never played DM/double pivot in his life. And play with a proper LW.
Great analysis 👍
So…
You’re telling me that if we play a left footed player on the left, and our striker as a striker and if we press & move up the pitch, we might pose a bit of a threat!?
Nope. Don’t buy it
Offering a rationale for Gareth Southgate's selections
Central defence is bereft - without Maguire, Stones has lost his longtime defensive partner and the player who provided the physicality to adequately compete in aerial duels.
It may be this is the best we can hope for given the huge difficulty balancing this team, the lack of several key individuals and player types.
its no suprise they played better when Shaw came on in the last two games and kane (mr no press) was changed
how can i sharethis with Southgate
Basics basics basics. Compress the field forwards and keep the width
Why can't we move Saka he has a left foot we are moving everyone else so why not Saka
You make much more sense than Soutgate will ever make. Very good. He doesn't have a clue. Trippier should not be in that team. Get Klopp!!!!!
An incredible analysis. Feels like Gareth Southpark is the only one who can’t draw or agree with these conclusions.
Agree re pressing and playing too deep. If that’s not fixed we’re toast.
Nicely done 👍
PPP by Southgate why are prem league players not moving into space ? app 4 million pound per for the squad and they play like a sunday league team

Yes... but the only team i saw press like guy in the video saying is atalanta😅 not even manch city or real press up like atalanta do😅 england playing 3 at the back.. if they press like he saying in the video.. is looks like atalanta style.. but if you miss the pressing is very easy to get counter attacks from the opponent and this are short tournments... with small margin of mistake so.... i think the best pressing i have saw in the last years in majour international tournment was made from italy in 2021 and spain in 2024.. so a balance pressing high..
But the guy in the video want 7 playera to press high to all the pitch😅
Jordan Pickford has been playing this defensive type of football all season , He is dominating the back four with a siege mentality,
Move Bellingham back and put a left winger on
Won’t make any difference to what they’re told to do by Southgate and Holland.
Pretty much exactly what I (and I suspect millions more) have been saying since the first game - but thanks for laying it out there so clearly.
Of course England can press, why do you think we make such good cider?
They should stop drinking it before the match.
ba dum TSSS!
Tactics and personnel are highly interrelated. Don’t play two 10s, don’t play TAA in MF, play Gordon on the left.
Phil foden isn’t a 10. Funnily enough Foden actually does play mostly on the left for Man City.
@@knockitoffhudson3470He's played as a 10 pretty much the whole season with De Bruyne being out. Pretty sure that Grealish and Doku have played on the left most of the season.
@@DeanRTaylor if you consider less than a third of the season the whole season sure.
You’re overcomplicating it. Sure, the press is important, but the distinct lack of progressive winger runs means that there are only ever sideways passes, and nearly zero penetratitive passes through defences.
If half the team isn't allowed to cross the half way line what chances do you have?
And they are in the FINAL!
I always said Southgate was a genius 😆
I'm sure even Kalvin Philips is laughing at the Kalvin Philips comment in the presser
Yep, England have an 11 man defence, more frightened of making mistakes rather than being confident to attack.
I wish I could find who posted that and send him this video to show him how wrong he was
I can not recall being excited about watching England play since Terry Venables was the manager.
Literally fcki WALES have done better than Sadgate by knocking out the fifa #2 team in 2016. Left that sink in.
Everything match going fan instinctively understands what’s happening. Why doesn’t Southgate?
I genuinely don’t understand why England fans continue to support the national team, they don’t seem to give a 💩so why should you?
Imagine, Tuesday 😢 England beating 3 0, Denmark win 3-0 ,do England qualify as a third place best team.
Kane isnt running...
What graphics tablet do you use to make your videos?
What do you mean by graphics tablet? I use a whole host of things from programs to hardware but the tablet I use is an iPad mini. Hope that helps, if you’d like some kind of a setup video or an AMA then let me know and if enough people want it I’ll make one.👍
Thanks for watching!
@@ZekkoFootball Graphics Tablets can come with or without screens. Essentially, they're an input device for a PC or laptop, functionally similar to a mouse, but with more precision, usually used for drawing or artwork. XP-Pen are a popular brand for example.
