In watching these covers, I'm reminded of a quote from a player I once asked 'what's it like to be the best in the world?' in an interview. His answer was "I'm not the best. The best guitar player in the world sells insurance for a living. There's somebody out there in their bedroom playing who is WAY better than I am."

Also, the image is created by those who pay you the money, you don't create an image and then hope the big execs jump on board. Do you think Katy Perry looked like she does now back before she became famous? There are plenty of videos on TH-cam that show what her 'image' was, pre-fame.
So what if you were in the entertainment industry. Being a gaffer doesn't make you more in the know than anyone else. It doesn't qualify your comments any more than mine; not in the least, especially considering I have also dabbled in the entertainment industry.
"Sell-out" just isn't a term that is used by anyone excepting people who are a little butt-hurt that the image of their idols has changed, much to their dislike.
So, I guess, in a roundabout way, I am saying that I don't believe you were ever in the entertainment industry, at least, not in the way that gives you esoteric knowledge of said industry.
