Socket Weld TIG Welding Tips

Socket Welds are something most pipe welders will have to do.
Back when I welded pipe for a living, I never minded it when I had a run of socket weld joints to do.
Socket welds can be just as enjoyable as butt welds.
This video shows some tips for selecting cup size and also tips for walking the cup and freehand techniques with a TIG finger.

Угловые швы, да еще и на позиционере - самые легкие швы. А вот в стык, да без позиционера, да 1/2 дюйма трубу, куда сложнее! По крайней мере для меня... Никак не идёт, хотя уже много лет в тиг сварке.

Loving the content my bro.. I'm a newb but I did do a bit of stick and Acetylene back when I was a youth @ 11/12/13 back in high school (as u call it in the US but we say secondary school in IRE) metalwork class. It's been a heck of a long time bcos I'm 50 now..LOL
Why do u weld so many passes on these welds and do u have to carry out so many passes on all welding TIG jobs u do? I am going to practice a bit of Stick welding in the morning but I bought my 1st Lift Tig torch WP-17V I think is the name of it. It's not one of the Flexible ones. I paid just 60 Euros for it. It came with a good length lead on it too.
So I bought some filler rods and Tungsten rods for my torch. Could u tell me if the collet has to be the same size as the Gas nozzle? I only have to split collets atm. Should the collets fit into the other part inside the torch, the name I have forgotten atm but I'm hopeful u know what I'm talking about? Do they have to be the same sizes, meaning do they need to be tight fitting and not have any slop inside?? I'm hoping u understand my question or I should say I'm hoping I asked it correctly.. LOL
As I said I'm a complete newbie to TIG and Welding tbf. What I might have done 37 years ago means nothing nowadays.

So my LWS used to carry your tig fingers, I noticed the other day they’re selling some Chinese junk look sort-a likes instead. I made sure they knew I wasn’t happy about that. Not that it matters to them, but it should.
