Do you Need a TIG Finger?
Go to weldmongerstore.com/ for TIG fingers, gloves, tungsten, filler rod, welding machines, and more. New products added weekly.
TIG welding requires a steady hand.
Problem is there is not always a convenient way to prop.
Some metals like aluminum get really hot really quick making it hard to find a place to rest your hand.
A TIG finger in your pocket means you will always have a way to prop.

Stainless Steel TIG Lap joint .056" thick & Tig Welding Tips
มุมมอง 6328 หลายเดือนก่อน
A 16 ga stainless or thinner lap joint can be a bit tricky because while you want a certain level of penetration, you don't want to burn thru. Stainless steel requires less amperage than carbon steel but that doesn't mean it should be welded cold and slow. Get your puddle established and moving within 3 seconds...2 seconds is even better. this will prevent a build up of heat that is difficult t...

How do YOU Clean Aluminum for TIG Welding?
มุมมอง 8K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Aluminum needs to be clean enough for TIG welding. But what is clean enough? Brand new aluminum sheet might not need any cleaning at all. A welding test that will be x ray tested needs different cleaning methods than a dog feeder. Cast aluminum needs different cleaning methods and welding methods than sheet or structural shapes.

I’m trying to tack weld 0.040” and it just keeps peeling back and not fusing before there is a puddle so I can’t get filler in to it. Your racking looks effortless. I’m not doing it with any backing plate because it’s for a shaped panel. Is a backing plate the only option?

Awesome video Jody.... thx for all you do. with 0.050" aluminum & 43 AMPs, I was very surprised you didn't go with a 1/16" tungsten. Nice work regardless. Would you care to comment on.... Arguably they both work, but when should one legitimately consider switching to a 1/16" tungsten (from a 3/32" one) ?

The way I like to clean aluminum depends on where the weld will be. The surfaces I use a cordless right angle drive drill. I use some 3" diameter quick change pads with a scotchbrite like material in coarse, medium and fine. Which one that I use depends on how dirty or corroded the aluminum is. For the edges, if it is thin material (<0.063"), I will rub the edge surface back and forth on either 120 or 220/240 grit sandpaper. The piece of sand paper is on a flat surface, usually my copper chill block. For thicker pieces (= or > 1/8"), I will use a 3" 120 grit flap disc. I have also used my belt sander with either a 120 grit or 240 grit belt to clean the edge surfaces. And then, of course, wipe down with acetone. I use a similar process for carbon steel, stainless steel, copper and magnesium. The range of thicknesses for me is from 0.025" to 0.250"

Thanks for all the great information that you give out on the cups and the uses. I tend to gravitate to a #5 with a gas lens on a #20 torch with a flex-loc torch. I swear by the jazzy myself switching between them without having to change any settings on my primeweld Tig 225x. Makes it very easy for me to do any repairs I have to do. Really trying to get sike up to practice with the ticon titanium practice kit bought several of them 2yrs ago and tried one of them and it's hard sticky if you don't have the gentle touch. Going to be purchasing a BBW from you to try it again I used #12 fupa cup w/40cfh don't think it was enough coverage didn't discourage me will try again. Thank you for all the great information you give us Jodie keep up the great work.😊😊😊😊😊😊

Thanks for sharing, I'm new to TIG, doing a SS header kit, and full SS 3" exhaust system, first mistake was buying cheap cup kits, now using the Furick cups, big difference. Sticker shock on what happened to the cost of Argon? WTH? Argon is going to be close to 1,000.00 for this project......

Some manufacturers prefer Cromo 4130 steel, such as KTM. There are a lot of aluminum alloy frames. But most of street bikes and choppers (Yamaha virago, Honda CB`s and so on) are made from 1020.

I try to get the new guys at work to get a good bead before ya worry about color. Being able to make a good bead is 10 times as important as color.and when i say that i mean that we work in a chicken plant.theres grease, fat ,peratic acid, bleach, and chicken blood on the metal.your precious color dont mean jack.a good bead on the metal is a great start😂

I bought this article a few months ago, the base is not rigid enough I had to reinforce it in welding 2 tubes // on it. In fact it came from the fact the magnet is not strong enough so it does not compensate enough the weight of your arm, so the base is flexing. Not a bad product, pretty useful, but as always with Stronghand their products lack quality 🙄...
