One of the last legendary conductors along with Blomstedt and Muti... habe dies in Salzburg gehört in 2016, wenn ich mich recht erinnere, zusammen mit Mahler-Lieder mit Matthias Goerne.
His muscle strength may not be there anymore but his sense of the meaning of a piece of music (and conveying that to the orchestra) is as strong as ever. In 1967, Zubin took the Los Angeles Philharmonic with Andre Watts to Tehran, Iran for two nights of concerts to commemorate the opening of a new orchestra hall. His trip was particularly welcomed by Iranians (Persians) not only for his musical fame but also for him being a Parsi, the Persians who fled Iran during the Arab invasion about 1400 years ago. I managed to fenagle a ticket to the second night of concert. It was given to me at the gate by a Russian mother and daughter because the father had fallen ill that night and could not attend. The young girl and I exchanged many many smiles during the concert at the end of which I couldn't decide whether I had fallen in love with the music or the girl. I never saw the girl again but developed an appreciation for classical music that I have cherished and enjoyed to date. That was 55 years ago. Thanks Maestro!
What a great concert! The orchestra plays beautifully and the conducting is not bad either. Mehta may look frail, but one can see that he is in full command. In an age of way too many shabby Bruckner performances, this one is a reminder of how phenomenal this symphony really is.
…The VPO is aware every second to depend on the hands of Maestro Mehta. Music performed on top level. It also proves that music speaks for itself. It doesn’t need Derwish dances in front of an orchestra….mi piace moltissimo.
Really? You think the VPO needs a conductor in this music. You should be able to walk up to the podium, give a downbeat, and just say" knock yourselves out" and the orchestra will turn out a good performance.
Mehta’s choice of tempos (moderate, steady) and orchestral balances (medium to low instruments allowed to blend and expand their sonority, with violins, high winds and trumpets giving light and air to the mix) recall that same orchestra’s recording with Karl Böhm from 50 years earlier. It’s magnificent, but a tad magisterial. The LAPO studio version was more lively and just as assured (Mehta knew his Bruckner from his study years in Vienna in the 1950s). I’m not criticizing this account, Mehta is one of the most honest, musical and faultless conductors ever. His mid-1960s studio account of the 9th with that same orchestra is a desert island disc (Decca must have had an inkling that there was a partnership made in heaven). He could surprise with composers as diverse as Puccini (the Decca Turandot), Verdi (the NYPO Verdi Requiem), Mahler (the Decca WP 2nd), Holst (The Planets), etc.
Great performance and Mehta in his element. Interesting that the VPO invites back some of the older (retired) players you can see on the back string desks - for those who have watched this great orchestra over many years
Yep. The VPO is the band to play this symphony. Such a great showpiece for the principal horn, but the whole outfit gets a workout. Maestro Mehta is a brilliant conductor who serves the music first and foremost. When the orchestra refuses to stand and applauds the conductor along with the audience, you know that magic has happened. By coincidence, this concert took place on my 59th birthday. Wish I could have celebrated it here!
Most amazing Apic performance , on a wonderful magical evening by maestro in Zubin Meha ..!! 👌💞👌🤩💅💅💅🌹🌷🙏🌷🌹👏👏👏👏💅💅💅😍❣️🤣... Humble Salutatiowns to the great ldgend ..!! 👍😇
My first encounter with Mehta was a recording with the LA Philharmonic of music from Star Wars and a suite from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. That was in 1978. It has remained a favourite of mine. Yes he's frail these days, but boy oh boy his control is total.
I was at his American debut at the Robin Hood Dell , summer home of the Philaadelphia Orchestra, in 1960. People were arguing about how to pronounce his last name.
Many many years ago I was playing timpani in the Beverley Hills Orchestra in a rehearsal and in walked Zubin Mehta with a Stunning Blonde woman .I will never forget that moment
......his expansion and swells remind me of Karajan (whose version is slightly inferior).....and his LONG LINGER before the applause......Mind-Blowing!
very good decision friends, just put the music to your hearts & never let bad guys win to screw us the joy of life, big loving hug Maestro Zubin, never stop believe in, let's dedicate this EPIC performance those who need to become your supporters from now on Ok?
let's share some more virtual hugzzzzz those who need to become your supporters from now on, those who want to enjoy the full concert, plizzzzzz visit Vienna & let them gifted musicians surprise you, l trully love using web connection for smart promotion and. .. bringing classy cool music to new fans hearts is never enough, you can bet on it guys
The only thing that bothers me is that the commercials are constantly interrupting the performance right in the middle of it. It shows what idiots these TH-cam guys who decide on the commercials are
Perfect opening
I love 💕 you amazing
Mehta. U dazzle my
heart 💗
Thank you Zubin for many years of wonderful music making in the NY Philharmonic.
Maestro conducting this monumental score without a score! Bravo!!

absolutely
I would add Eschenbach to that list.
✨️ my inspiration
I might be going to see Blomstedt later this year! We don’t have many more chances to see him so it’s time to take advantage of the opportunities!
Muti😂

This is an incredible performance by the orchestra and Mehta! A perfect introduction to Bruckner for new listeners.
I was there, spectular concert! The energy was amazing
Lots of great memories of this piece.
At 11:06 the cello player is quite pleased of how the brass chorale is sounding 😋
With justice - what a glorious sound

Not he is not in full command. A shell of himself. Have you seen how he conducted when he was young?

Fantástico concierto
All you can say is wow! I still think the VPO is the best orchestra to play this music. They just have the right sound for it.
I think they would play it even better without him

Ergreifend schön. A heart-warming experience, and I like in particular the watchful leadership by concertmaster Albena Danailova.
Thanks 🙏❤️❤️❤️

Why is the Video & Audio quality so much better in the Polish Violin and Piano Competitions??

Amazing 😂

Yes, the Philharmoniker

The orchestra know Mehta well, and the piece even better. I will note, however, that the conductor may not have the energy to deal other situations.
Whats with the woman concert mistress?
How far the VPO has fallen......shame.
What a poor orchestra compared to Berlin Philharmonic. This tragedy is the result of a lack of progress: the 1975 performance with Böhm sounds better.
Not as good as celibidache. I guess no one is
We found *that* guy...
