    I've been there in "Alte Oper Frankfurt" 2016. Performance and sound was incredibly good. It's a little bit ashaming, what the folks gave as a "thank you" to Inbal and the musicians. Later I met two of the musiscians in the metro and gave my best "Thanks to you", I was able to give. I asked, why the public was so ignorant, the answer: "They didn't know it." "What, really? It.s a famous work!" "No, not for the normal people. They only give big applause to the famous works!" It's sad, but true. For me it was a wonderful (h)ear experience!!! The orchestra is really gorgeous.

    Cette symphonie de Bruckner mérite bien son surnom de "romantique" . Très expressive et emprunte de thèmes cycliques, elle est ainsi une des plus populaires et sans doute la plus facile d'accès de l'univers de ce grand compositeur germanique.

      Not really. It's full of unfinished melodies and cut motifs (trait of romantic music in general as composers tried to mimic Beethoven but couldn't). Next, there are plenty of cliches you can instantly recognize Viennese school from. It's far from emotional. I actually like it because of coldness and calculated composition. The truth is, it's too long. Whole material could be fitted into 45 minutes easily. Especially later parts are unnecessary, at 47:49 it should have ended. I would be giving you a medal if you can point at anything new past this point. 4th part sucks in general, it's like Bruckner tried to present four or five different endings of symphony one after each other for listeners to choose the one they like most. Also, its sound is overcrowded with brass section making listening a tiring experience. Next, separation between parts is unclear, all of them sounding kinda lethargic. Next, it's just not good enough. Bruckner tries to milk a few motifs in as many ways as he can never actually developing a theme or finishing even single melody. I can't hear music moving anywhere. Of course in major it's down to calculated structure of symphony. I hate places such as this at 25:32 when orchestra and audience are put in rehearsal mode.

    With this symphony, for me, is that amazing, extraordinary crushed note the horn plays in the climax movement 3. It’s like the earth’s core has just opened up in slow motion

      The first horn part in Bruckner's 4th is a dream part.In this wonderful performance ( and recording) i have never heard such brilliant individual instrumental playing . the closing pages never fail to make my hair stand on end . Only in this Inbal performance do you hear the beautiful repetetive strings backing the brass and wind instruments in those final glorious pages.

    Impresionante versión de una de mis sinfonías preferidas de Bruckner. Desde el principio, hasta el apoteósico final, todo va maravillosamente, con unos solistas en estado de gracia y un conjunto que brilla como nunca. Esta es mi orquesta favorita, a la que tengo por una de las mejores del mundo, y aquí lo demuestra con creces. El director, preciso, de una gran expresividad. Excelente sonido, realización buena, se oyen los aplausos y se ve los saludos de los músicos, ¿qué más se puede pedir? Ah, claro: estar allí, en directo, alguna vez...

    • @Quotenwagnerianer
      @Quotenwagnerianer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "Unfortunately"?! The original scores are, with the exception of the 8th Symphony, vastly superiour to all later iterations.

    • @dieterbarkhoff1328
      @dieterbarkhoff1328 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We're essentially talking about 1,2 and 4, apart from 8. I agree with you about 8,and 1, but I don't understand how anyone can prefer the original 3 and 4. They are embryos...

    • @Quotenwagnerianer
      @Quotenwagnerianer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3 is vastly superiour in it's first two versions. The 3rd version is an abomination that he should never have wasted his precious time with. He should have worked on the 9th instead of further mutilating the 3rd.
      By the way there is a reason why Bruckner did not destroy the original versions, like for example Brahms who would not publish anything until he was done with all revisions.
      Bruckner considered his original versions to be just as valid as the revised versions.

    The chord progression in tge end ist just sooo wonderful! Does sb know the exact chords?

    • @annakimborahpa
      @annakimborahpa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      1) Although Bruckner would have analyzed the chords using 18th century European figured bass, I have chosen 20th century American jazz chord terminology, but with having to choose between function and enharmonic simplicity (I wasn't going to write down double flatted chords).
      2) From the best that I can hear and in the key of Eb Major:
      1:03:02 = Eb unison, Cb Major, Eb unison, Cb Major, Eb unison, Cb Major
      1:03:30 = Ab Minor/Eb, Eb Major, F Diminished Minor/Eb, Eb Major
      1:03:40 = Ab Minor, Eb Minor/Gb, Cb Major - Cb Major 7th, Eb Sus/Bb - Eb Minor/Bb
      1:03:50 = Ab Minor 6th, Eb open fifth, add 2/Bb, Eb Minor/Bb - Eb open fifth, add 2/Bb, Ab Minor/Cb, Eb Sus/Bb - Eb Minor/Bb,
      1:03:59 = F Diminished Minor/Cb, Eb open fifth, add 2/Bb, Ab Minor
      1:04:09 = Eb unison, Cb Major, Eb unison, Eb Major, Eb unison, Cb Major
      1:04:27 = Eb Unison, Fb Major (enharmonically becoming E Major)
      1:04:36 = A Minor, G Major, C Major, B Major, E Major, Eb Major, Ab Minor, Gb Major, Cb Major, Bb Major, Ab Minor, Gb Major
      1:05:03 = Fb Major
      1:05:12 = Eb Major
      3) Starting at 1:04:09 and particularly at 1:04:36 on through to the end, the strings play a triplet figure that increases the harmonic tension of each chord, in many instances by playing non-chord tones on the downbeats of the first of two successive triplets. These string triplets are something like what the dying Mozart referred to as "the fire" as he dictated his Requiem to Salieri in the film version of Amadeus.

    • @robinpclarke
      @robinpclarke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is a sequence of 14 simple major/minor triads (the most basic of all chords), but a very unusual sequence, and ending with the flattened supertonic (in this case F flat) which is a particularly unusual chord. And yet it all sounds so natural and inevitable. The context of the "scale" notes played by the strings may be an essential factor too.
      Here B shows his unsurpassed mastery of harmony. In the ending of the 7th he goes on to show his mastery of something more (which doesn't have a technical name).

    Wow what a great performance . Tempii perfect, very inspiring direction from Inbal, and an outstanding first horn player ( who has such an important role to play). And the recording is fantastic. Bruckner's symphonies should be an essential part of all concert planning. Let's have less Mozart, Schubert, Haydn and more more more Bruckner! His adagios must surely have been sent by SMS from Heaven.
