      I remember the day I finally beat the original. My 12yr old self was so excited and proud and then it just starts back at beginning. Man, I was so crushed. But I did push on and did the second play through to get the ending. Crazy hard but satisfying when you succeed.

      They should use advance and lance in their marketing. Its sticks in the mind quickly and perfectly captures both the similarities and unique differences between G&G and the far more common Contra clones, great as some of those are. Remember Gunstar Heroes?

      Haha, quite possibly!

      @MrMrFreddy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From what I've played, not quite. The knife is faster than the lance, but doesn't feel AS fast as in older games, and the higher damage output of the lance makes it preferable during the sections with tankier mobs (like the Ogre building which is absolutely brutalizing). Knife is still the to-go weapons for the common sections that flood you with fodder enemies.

    This art style really make me wish that Vanillaware would make a Muramasa: The Demon Blade on the Switch. That game needs to get the love and attention it deserves. It was mostly overlooked on the Wii although being the best looking game in that system. Please just port it over.

    Interestingly enough , a lot of games (often remakes) get criticized , positively or negatively, for using a "hand drawn" art style instead of a pixel art style, but if you look at the 8 and 16 bit graphical eras , most of the art then was a digitization of someone's hand drawn art.

    I was there as a kud playing this on the arcade machine. One of my most treasured games of all tume, and continued to dip in many times over the years, i still play the originals on the consoles. I was was very worried about this due to the art style , but... they nailed ti gameplay and the feels. Hell they even made blue flame actually not crap to use as the notorious 'worst weapon' (dagger still my favourite). They have absolutely nailed it for me, 10 outta 10. Legend difficulty is probably the hardest ever setting , even harder than the originals. Does it beat the infamous super ghouls n ghosts on snes? Dunno yet. Buts a definate classic, and i love the visuals.
    Great review pal, im back to learning legend difficulty. Another point on that, i genuinely think if your prepared to chicken out to easy mode, i think its going to ruin the game, its difficult , but its been built to play hard, so its way more balanced on hard, legend etc. But , if you dont like difficulty you aint purchasing this anyway. Just awesone stuff.

    thumbs up review. I just got it. couple things. the jumping? or attempt at any precision tombstone jumping feels impossible.
    I got turned into a frog. that can't swim? I think they they should have adjusted his foot speed and combat. his normal walking
    and throwing pace is fine when fully armored and can hardly move. when he's lost his armor his foot speed should be faster and
    his throws should be quicker, but do less damage than if he had the weight of his armor behind the throw. too early for a final
    judgment, but I'm guessing if you got about 5hrs out of gameplay to complete it then I'm in for a good 20+ myself.

      The strange thing is that the movement speed has been reduced from the original. Play Super Ghouls and Ghosts on the online super nintendo emulator for the Switch first. It will give you a feel for the difficulty. Think Mega Man and then add some difficulty. I loved it, but it's not for the faint of heart.

Hard as Nails so where's my hammer, who needs a covid barber for your bad haircut, this game will have you tearing your hair out in a fun but arrghh i died again?, but you know if you died it was your fault and makes you smile a little hehe.

    Do you think the game just SEEMS slower than the old games because it is using a new graphics engine and art style? Also, there is also the fact that it is an HD gamer rather than being on a 4:3 aspect ration.
    I say this because I remember when people complained that the movement in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night felt slower than in Symphony of the Night, the game that RotN was trying to mimick. IGA confirmed the movement and controls were identical, but that it was an optical illusion of it being slower due to it being in HD and using a different graphical engine than SotN.
