I’ve been playing this franchise since the original. This is so fucking hard that I’m just in love. I’m so happy they didn’t make it easy. The only thing I hate is NO DOUBLE JUMP!!
did you ever play ultimate ghouls n ghosts for psp? i very much enjoy the challenge of super ghouls n ghosts on the snes, but ultimate on psp is so ridiculously frustrating i just could not enjoy it. the game has a lot of cool new additions but i couldn't enjoy them because of how cheap the level and enemy designs were. there are nonstop enemies spawning all over constantly, including right on top of you or right where you're about to land midjump. it just makes it impossible to do anything about no matter how good your reflexes.
Super ghouls n ghosts one of my all time fave games. As young lad played it for few years. Loved it.

There are 5 mainline games, not counting gold knights on mobile. Ghost n goblins, ghouls n ghosts, super ghouls n ghosts, ultimate ghost n goblins on psp and this one.
@@piotrtrojanowski8453 Quite literal anything is either a copy of ghosts'n goblins or ghouls'n ghosts. Super Ghouls'n Ghosts is just a SNES version of Ghouls'n Ghosts. Even Resurrection here is a bad rehash of old.
@@niemand7811No, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts is definitely a different game and the best in the series unless you count the Maximo games. Probably the thing that disappointed me most about Resurrection is "where is the double jump?".
Speaking for myself, I don't care overmuch for the modern trend in Game Reviews for the authors to consistently use the First Person when describing their reaction to the game. I prefer the old school approach of maintaining a 3rd person objectivity, as is expected when writing University level research papers.
The constant use of I and expressing personal reactions makes many modern reviews seem juvenile and the kind of writing expected from junior high school students writing book reports.
Finally, I think smart game sites find reviewers who love a genre of games to review a new entry in the category instead of someone who admits to not having much attraction to it.
How does it help fans of a particular genre of games to hear the opinions of someone who doesn't get the genre or is able to handle it at its toughest difficulties.
Who do you use for your pitch hitter? Someone with an average of 100 or someone with an average of 500? It's not hard.
Still, the reviewer tried, so I think a participation award is in order.
Next time though, I'd bring in a reviewer who can evaluate the game from the perspective of gamers who want their games to push them to the limits.

Having brutal difficulty baked in to even your recreational activities can only help but foster in particular outlook on life with desirable skills for the future. If a reviewer doesn’t relish in the satisfaction of struggle, then I can’t say it’s a genuine or accurate review. Being almost blind, I spend more time trying to figure out what I’m supposed to do than it takes to actually accomplish it. I have more fun these days hacking games then actually playing them and still I appreciate the different creative direction that’s studios are striving for.
Lol in some cases your standard for review may be a little high. Considering the skill ceiling for some games and having to combine that with a knack for exposition, you may find the cost to hire an expert to review a hard game may grow out of budget. Perhaps it best we just let average people in on the world as well, and seek out ourselves what we find to be missing.

It'd have a 99% return rate on platforms that don't blow. People on the other platforms have higher standards. This is not a $30 game.
@@youtubesuresuckscock I own a PS5 and PC with RTX 3080. As a Ghosts N Goblins/Ghouls N Ghosts fan, this is the best game I've played in a while. I own over 800 games on PS4/5 and almost 500 on PC.

Games like Demon Souls and Nioh should also have these difficulty accessibilities options.
Games like Nioh and Demon Souls are easier because you can grind for EXP and boost your stats. Those games are RPGs. But the game of topic here is a pure arcade style platformer. And they did a shitty job copying the legendary difficulty by making it mostly nonsensical with sluggish movement by the main character while enemies move three times as fast and they just spawn everywhere at random as well.
He said this game is Nintendo Switch exclusive, when it clearly is NOT. I think maybe it was on Switch for 3 months or something before it came to PC, Xbox, PS4, etc. You can HARDLY call that exclusive.
For those that too young and don't know Sega channel was a monthly subscription almost like Game Pass or PlayStation Plus that's where I was playing ghouls and goblins I only had a month to Beat It because on a certain day the game switch over I played it nonstop I finally beat it goes and goblins when I was a kid
I'm glad I got through it I beat ghouls and goblins when I was a kid on the Sega no very fun but brutal ghouls and goblins came out when I was a kid I still remember beating it to this day my brother was downstairs listening to TLC I told him I beat it my brother was a teenager his eyes. Big I showed him the credits I still remember what song he was listening to No More chasing waterfalls it's like it was yesterday

Also great memories of UN Squadron and Super Contra Spirits also.
When I was about 25/26 I had a tough time with my health. I managed to buy myself a second hand super Nintendo console and Sup Ghouls & Ghosts again. I swear it helped me to get trough that period of time. The music, the atmosphere, it helped me recover. Fantastic game!!!!
Now I'm pushing 50 years old. Super G & G will always have a very special place in my heart, and the time I spent playing it.

Don't know why. At first i was really eager to buy it, but now while watching this Video, not so sure anymore. That Artstyle is not my Taste at all.
It's because the art style is not pixels like the original. The animation and artstyle makes it looks like some game on a phone.
Art style wise I still prefer Super GnG, Ultimate GnG being second. Funny how higher resolution and poly actually makes this game the least spooky among others.

@@imran31610 I finished the original when I was 8, and the sequel when I was about 10. Must have took me a few months to finish because I still remember how hyped I was that I finally finished it.

came to realize that Lucifer's finger doesn't really point in the right direction when shooting laser from it like the arcade (they did a lazy job on that)
People seem to only know about super ghouls and goblins no there was a regular ghouls and goblins version for the Sega and it was hard also

@@gordo13371 back in the day for us old gamers it was. We had less awareness than the new generation of gamers. But it was fun. Everybody knew and loved the game. Life is to short for me to play the new game. Been there done that. I have a huge backlog for games to play and I have very little time.

This game is a love tribute to Ghost n goblins and Ghouls n ghosts specifically. Forgot that shitty, slow and sluggish snes game that is Super Ghouls and Ghosts. Far superior than Ultimate GnG for vintage players. Only one day after release and I absolutely love this game.

If you're counting together wise this technically this will be the second remaster but if you're counting consolized this would be the first
Why is it that game reviewers and critics suck at games? It's like having a food critic tell you your food sucks when they don't have taste buds.
Not all critics suck at games, though. Its just that a lot of reviewers are "just" journalists getting a job and aren't really to keen on video games or the critic has multiple games do go through and a tight deadlines to keep track off, i.e. not enough time to "git gud". Age and a busy private life factor in as well. While lil' timmy might have gotten really good, spending 14 hours a day playing video games, he probably won't be able to eloquently describe a games strenghts and weaknesses in a concise way.
This looks great. Some insanely hard games are also some of the best games… As long as your roommates or family, don’t mind all the swearing 😂
Battletoads, Ninja Gaiden …
Are you kidding. Battletoads was indeed a shitty game in terms of difficulty. Ninja Gaiden however is easy. All about the flow. Ghosts'n Goblins Resurrection got nothing. No flow, no room for breath. As a player I'm constantly reacting because enemies won't stop from spawning from everywhere. I have never seen such nonsense before. Even the classic arcade games gave you a break so you could prepare for what was ahead of you. This game here is simply the wrong take on difficulty.
Nintendo hard is a miss label? No, it's not a miss label at all. I grew up in the late 1980's and 1990's...I can tell you with first hand experience that Nintendo hard existed. Further, games were not Nintendo hard because they were emulating the arcade. Nintendo and Sega had to find a way to combat rental companies like Blockbuster from taking revenue from them. They made their games overly hard so they cannot be completed in one to three days. I believe Nintendo themselves coined the term "Nintendo hard."
Most games for the 3rd and 4th generation were not simple arcade ports. Yes, there were a lot of them but not nearly as much as original games with new ideas. This precisely the reason Nintendo blew past Atari during the 3rd generation like they were sitting still. Sega gained the upper hand during the 4th through excellent arcade conversions (1989-1995) but Nintendo eventually won in the end for a number of reasons not related to the discussion.
One thing I know. It will be easier. Only finished the original after 8 years and around 70 tries!!
Not really easier. The levels are harder because there are a lot more enemies, the levels are longer, and running is SLIGHLY slower. But the one thing that IS easier is that you have infinite lives, which balances it out to be on par with the originals.
Ive heard its coming to ps and xbox...Hope the rumours are true... It would be a shame if was only on switch.

What I’ve gathered from all of the reviews this game is hard because it’s well designed. Unlike the original which was hard because the controls and optimization sucked.

Ghouls and goblins been remastered before but on and iPod tablet
The slow movement is a deal breaker for me. This is the first installment that slows you down. Running is slow. Throwing weapons takes around 12 to 15 frames. So it's alot slower too. I like the hard difficulty and the amt of enemies but the decision to slow the character way down while speeding up all the enemies is just the right amt of trolling to say... Nah. You guys broke with tradition and made a run and shooter into a slow moving reset, reset, reset.
For me, without the decent movement speed. This isn't a true ghost n goblins game. This is an alarming trend in games lately that I've noticed. Developers are going to far with handicapping the player and their games playability and finances will suffer as a result. This game feels like your playing Gradius without ever getting a speed power up. It's tolerable during the stages but in the boss fights where the camera pans out. It literally takes Arthur more than TEN seconds just to cross the room.
Stop whining and just get on with it. Or don't play at all.

Agreed. Should have kept the same speed as the originals. Plus I think the game has too many rng pattern enemies. The original did also, but they used it very sparingly. Most enemies were predictable and had patterns maybe minus the red devils

Fuck this game. Played 20 mins then deleted it. Glad i didn’t pay full price. Difficulty level is ridiculous, it’s just not a fun game and I loved all the originals.
Exactly my point too. They did not bring home the classic feel of difficulty you could learn to overcome after a some try and error.
Just give us another Maximo game...

Growing up playing NES, games like Ghosts and Goblins would be something we would play and just kind of accept the difficulty as it just being the way the game was. However, that was then. I’m 38 now and I have no desire to frustrate myself playing a game that really isn’t fun, just hard, for the sake of saying I beat it. When I was a kid, I would take pride in fighting through some of the hardest games around, now I realize that it just isn’t worth the frustration. If I’m going to spend my money, I need to enjoy what I’m doing. For example, a few years ago, I picked up a used copy of Bloodborne. I started playing it and kept getting killed. After about 2 hours, I came to a realization: I’m not having fun. I’m just getting frustrated. Why am I playing this? I returned it and picked up Tomb Raider, and had fun. This would be the same: keep getting killed and get annoyed while not having fun. In the 80s, we didn’t know better. Today, even as a veteran of NES, no chance I would ever waste my time getting killed every two seconds again. Capcom should’ve revamped this, but if they did, I know some “hardcore” fans would complain about it being too easy. I would disagree, it wouldn’t be too easy, it would be actually playable after 3 decades.

This is a nonsensical take. Nintendo hard is modern nonsense as well. Games that were hard did exist. Of course. Also From Software gave is tough games. But those games had one twist to them. They were hard, challenging to be honest. But these challenges could be tackled. Most games were hard until you knew what you are doing.
Modern games with "retro had" in mind are nothing but a modern joke on game difficulty NOT properly understood by modern gamers. Today games are not hard to be a challenge. They are hard to be hard. And ghosts and goblins resurrection is not different here. It is hard for the wrong reasons. Movement speed is punishing sluggish. Enemies are swift and always outnumber the player. The dang fairies always lure you into danger. No double jump which could have been a saving grace. No. And the hell of fun begins in the first section already, no matter which of the first two stages you chose. They are both loaded with bullshit to throw any remaining fun off. At least the arcade games let you reach one point after another becoming harder each time. But this nonsense game here is tough right through the gate. If this is how people today imagine game difficulty in the 80s and 90s, let me tell you how wrong you all are. You are disgustingly wrong.
It took me a long time but I did beat Golden Goblins the Sega version when I was a kid I didn't even know they had super ghouls and goblins
That game you're thinking of is Ghouls n' Ghosts my friend and it was amazing on the Sega Genesis/Super Grafx. No worries man, that game cane out in 1989 and had I not played it as much as I have I wouldn't completely remember its name either. The other game is Super Ghosts n' Goblins for the Snes. Aside from the massive slowdown it too is a great game but not as good as Ghouls n' Ghosts. All three original games (Ghosts n' Goblins, Ghouls n' Ghosts, and Super Ghosts n' Goblins) were released on the Sega Saturn in Japan on a one disk collection.

yes. The movement speed is too slow. It looks like super ghouls and ghosts in slow motion. I dont know if I could do it. Also why does the game have so many rng enemies with rng spawns and rng patterns? Its like constantly everywhere. The originals never did that which makes the new game much more difficult than the originals ever were.

God I always hated this game. My personal opinion is that this game was never good/fun and now it looks like a cheap mobile game banking on nostalgia
