That ring shaped item definitely looks like a coiled snake. Google showed me a lot of rings from the Roman period with a coiled snake, from the wear on it that appears quite old and might even be older than Roman if I'm honest, but I'm no expert. It could be a pendant, or something that would have had a cord or belt through it. I think you had some interesting quirky finds this time out, but I think that one is probably the most significant. More of that field please!
I think the converse face is a Victorian curiosity may be illustrating the Hollow Face Illusion - when you tilt the face it appears to move in the opposite direction. My late colleague Richard Gregory 'discovered' this effect but there are examples from antiquity where people must have be aware of the strange perceptual phenomenon.
John. Please make a follow up video on the face cup. Like me, everyone wants to know more! These items are the very best part of the hobby... finding the unusual that you can research. Hopefully even put together the origin and make some logical conclusions on how it ended up in a field in Scotland. Crazy.
This was great John. I'll take a moment to say a big thank you for all your uploads. Always a joy to watch. More amazing finds in the rich fields of Perthshire.
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend, from this old man in Tennessee. I’m happy to see that you’ve broken the Silver drought. Congratulations! I agree with @mattj6676…that bronze twisted ring looks to me like a coiled snake…for sure. It’s always @ pleasure, for me, to see your brilliant programs. You’ve made a GREAT choice on your current mic. I’ve NEVER heard any wind related noise or distractions in any of your videos. Brilliant sound. That face in a cup is truly cool. Thanks and blessings.
I wonder.if the concave relief portrait came from a grave marker. Grave markers from Edwardian period through the 1920s often included relief portraits. After fields are ploughed, look for examples in your local cemeteries. More recently, photos are etched into metal or actual photos are encased into glass. Your portrait is about the right size for a grave marker, memorial plaque or historical marker. In any case, it is a nice quality portrait. Bring it with your to the museum.
I also think it was a mold, but I didn't think that through to a grave marker, but that certainly is most likely. I hope you can find the grave marker in the cemetery.
The crescent moon artifact could be a Roman Lunula pendant or possibly even Viking. I’m not certain of the history of that field. The twisted snake ring/amulet is also potentially very cool.
I can't believe the finds you discovered. That final piece looks like the face of a one of the great Classical Music composers, or possibly a figure of the government. Well done, John. Sometimes when you have a solo dig you find some classic treasures!
@@laurelmoon2 all the ones that I found were wood not metal and I don't think it's big enough for a tobacco jar but I think it might be a replica little box from the 1950s? But regardless...it is definitely a face!!
Excellent John. Really good stuff. Always nice to get silver in different forms. So pleased for you. I really like the miniature engraved bowl. Bless 👍
I love it when you find a thimble. As a quilter, I've used a few, but love the silver thimbles. I do love the bronze finds, in particular the moon pendant and the 'inside out face'-how strange! Cool finds, and glad you're back on the silver! Great treasures!❤
I have seen things like that face bowl before, relief concave portraits that create an optical illusion that they are coming out of the object. This seems too extreme of a depth to be one of those as the mount would be too deep for a practical wall frame, same really if it was a mould, why would you need something that big with a chaps face on it? very curious object, hope you can find out more about it!
Well it’s time for that 😮‘Wow’ again John! What a great day for you at last. Great finds - beautiful thimble, silver shilling, funny little half head, twisted ring and the pot leg! 🤩 Also that face!! Quite spooky seeing his face being revealed whoever he is - really weird find? Well done and thanks for the video on which the sound was perfect 👍
Epic finds John … double silver is always a welcome addition … the face disc thing is very interesting .. very unusual and unique …never seen anything like it … hope you got some answers to what it was and what its purpose was ? Well done John 👏🏻
The "thing" at 5:00 looks a bit like a bird in profile. Simon might have a better idea. 🤪 And now the other "beastie" at 14:00. A great day. And then, OMG, the face on the inside of that "bowl". Absolutely brilliant.
One of the best days I've seen on your channel. I know you see coins as the ultimate, and society would probably agree, but not me- not at all. The real treasures as I see it are the other items, of which there were a few. Congrats
when are you going to show us the collection you have gained over the years?! I’ve been watching from Australia and I love the content, oldest coin I have found here is a 1806 penny, oldest silver is a 1879 shilling! love it
What an interesting dig!! I have no idea what the items are, but they are great finds. Good for the silver drought being over. Will be waiting to find out what you discovered about the relics. Cheers from Texas.
It’s great to see you’ve got ya mojo back John 2 silver and a thimble along with the additional and very unusual man in the dented thing I’ve never seen anything like that. It’ll be good hear if you get any input as to what this thing may be, great video and well done buddy
Great finds John. You make me smile at your excitement , over coins I used back in the 40s and 50s, particularly the silver ones. I've got a collection of some of these , I'd forgotten about . But rediscovered them in their box a few days ago. few days ago.
The bowl at the end looks like a brass pin dish, never before have I seen a face of a person on it, though - it's usually an animal! At first glance I thought it looked a bit like William Gladstone, one of the country's PMs during the Victorian era, maybe related to that in some way? I know some commemorative pewter things were made after him, maybe one in brass too?
13:57 is the upper part of a pig's head. The eyes were inlaid and it has the top of the snout. The piggy ears are excellent. The lower jaw would probably have tusks on its jawline. I'd love to have seen the lower head/jawline section. My thoughts are legion and you know which one had a wild boar as an emblem.
What a terrific hunt my man! Wow just the right mix of coins and relics. The face bowl is one of the coolest finds I have seen. Looks to be copper? If those were my finds I would clean them all and put them in the face bowl and it would occupy a special spot on my desk/bench to occasionally examine and reflect on such a fine day’s detecting! Thanks for your videos and really appreciate your hard work to put them out for all to enjoy.
As people have said. The ring has a snake look to it. If it's eating its own tail, then it might be viking related. The Midgard serpent? The half face thing reminds me of a pig. Nice thimble, btw 👍
Best metal detectorist channel on youtube. love the history you throw in to them
Love John!
Absolutely correct,I love his channel.🏴
#agreed - I just love all the history he imparts to us!

I thought and saw the same, snake. Perhaps it was a hair ring? It’s beautiful. Great outing John, the head thing looks a bit like Yoda 😜.
agree... i think this find is early... it looks like it was forged as heavy twist, not something modern but when metal working was tough..
My thought exactly!
Coiled snake
Is the face a mould?
16:22 Coiled snake decoration-- definitely a piece for the museum.
That face is amazing! Whoever did it was talented. Too bad it ended up in the dirt although if it hadn’t you never would have found it. Great day out❤
Perfect day!
Coiled ring looks like a Viking beard ring
John! What amazing hunt!!! I loved that viking thimble, giant! And the coin..uffff beutyyyyyy. Big hug from Patagonia Argentina

The face in the shallow bowl is so well made and the crescent shaped piece looks old. Great day detecting - and great video!
Funny, I was thinking that last find looked like Gandalf and the other head looked like Gollum
The face in that whatever it is is really well done…can’t wait to hear what this was!
It’s a really intriguing item. I’m really looking forward to finding out what it is!
Hi John, could the bowl maybe be a singing bowl? There are several types out there
Gorgeous!

That “face bowl” was fascinating! And, the thimble was lovely. Glad you broke your drought. Cheers, and ATB!

@@northernerinnc3179 I’d have to smush some play-doh in there 😄
The lack of decoration on the back might indicate it's some sort of inset.
The crescent moon artifact could be a Roman Lunula pendant or possibly even Viking. I’m not certain of the history of that field. The twisted snake ring/amulet is also potentially very cool.
Yes. Think so too!
Possibly from a military horse harness, e.g. the equestrian portrait of field marshal Ligonier of David Morier, so possibly 18th century
You always.crack me up!
What an interesting assortment of finds! So glad you’ve had a great day.
It’s a miracle! You brought all of your gear, and everything was charged 😂 Cheers!🍻
You find the most bizarre thingy things. Good hunt as always.
Two faces! What fun and interesting finds! Always love the thimbles! Your mic did a great job filtering the wind 🎉
So many wierd and cool stuff this hunt, love it! 😁👌
Thank you John to make our day beautiful!!!
the bowl -like thing is fantastic! I can't stop thinking about it. Do let us know when you get a clue.
I can't believe the finds you discovered. That final piece looks like the face of a one of the great Classical Music composers, or possibly a figure of the government. Well done, John. Sometimes when you have a solo dig you find some classic treasures!
those are amazing treasures you found. How exciting. Good job !
Thanks for the video. Nice finds today.
The doggo head is the lid of a Victorian tobacco jar, mid 19th century.
Yes I researched Victorian tobacco jar. It came up as a bulldog head tobacco jar. It looks just like it.
@@laurelmoon2 all the ones that I found were wood not metal and I don't think it's big enough for a tobacco jar but I think it might be a replica little box from the 1950s? But regardless...it is definitely a face!!
The last item has blown me away 🤯 amazing John
Fabulous day John! Quite exciting, very curious about the face item.
Maybe the pot leg is to a pot of Roman gold coins at the end of that rainbow. The ring looks like a coiled snake. You had some good finds today.
Good that you are back on the finds, especially with the shilling & Thimble. We all get those bad days with no finds, but must keep getting out.
Yay! Great finds plus you're on the silver!
Great finds john bowl is interesting item😊
That’s a strange brass critter you’ve found!! 😊😊
Excellent John. Really good stuff. Always nice to get silver in different forms. So pleased for you. I really like the miniature engraved bowl. Bless 👍
the face on the little bowl is amazing , looks like it has a scowl look thanks again John cheers
Happy Day, you had some wonderfully different finds in addition to the silver coin and thimble. Please follow up on the mystery objects.
I love it when you find a thimble. As a quilter, I've used a few, but love the silver thimbles. I do love the bronze finds, in particular the moon pendant and the 'inside out face'-how strange! Cool finds, and glad you're back on the silver! Great treasures!❤
I think the coiled find is one for the museum. Looks Roman or maybe bronze age. Maybe a coiled snake. Fascinating video. Thank you John.
Wish you'd checked that last hole again, the one with the strange face. Was sure I'd seen a giant milled silver edge poking out at the camera.
What amazing finds! That face at the end wow! What on earth is it?! Look forward to seeing everything up close and to hear if you've found out more.

Great day detecting nice thimble half head thing looks like a ninja turtle lol face in bowl interesting well found John

That face is insane and you dug up a troll too. 😅

I always enjoy silver thimbles. The designs are amazing. Young ladies cross stitch and I imagine a fancy silver thimble gave them some status.
That head with the ears and snout looks like part of a piggy bank?
Ahhh!!! That’s a great suggestion. That could be it!! Thanks so much
No. I don't think so. That thing has a chance of being really significant.
One of the best days I've seen on your channel. I know you see coins as the ultimate, and society would probably agree, but not me- not at all. The real treasures as I see it are the other items, of which there were a few. Congrats
For a second i’ve thought it’s a gargoyle head… maybe just my imagination 😂 Nice finds 👏👏
Another one for the museum 😮
Love your new hat!
love the face dish! very odd right enough!
Just amazing to have multiple outings with no finds and then to have a day like that. Congratulations and thanks for sharing!!!
Love that What is that.curiosity never fails.keep on diggn bro.
I heard no wind whatsoever. Your mic filter is working brilliantly
What strange and mysterious finds! Love it. A good day for you, John. Awesome
A good day for you! That face in the bowl sure was expertly done. So many interesting things.
What great finds! The bowl you found could it be a cigarette bowl? 😋😄

Very nice as usual John!!! Really great finds also! Congrats!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Jealous of the silver thimble! I’ve yet to find one myself. Well done John! Thanks.
Many thanks Ted. It’s a beauty and despite being flattened a bit it’s not cracked so can be straightened
Such a pretty thimble! But that face in the metal disk is a real head scratcher.
Oh no John when you can’t detect the fields you’ll have to detect your garden for us 😅 Good few hours, some nice finds 👍
That face in the bowl is incredible. Haunting! If you ever find out what it is, please let us all know.
What an interesting dig!! I have no idea what the items are, but they are great finds. Good for the silver drought being over. Will be waiting to find out what you discovered about the relics. Cheers from Texas.
That face bowl is one of the coolest things I've ever seen come up ❤
Oh wow. What an day, loved the last one❤👋🇫🇮
Nice finds. You did well for your 4 hours. Happy days
Great day in Perthshire! Thanks for sharing your fantastic finds! Cheers from New Orleans
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching
Great video John, beautiful thimble. I t looks like the top of head to me. Lovely shilling and pot leg!! And the head in the bowl, wow! Thank you!!
For the crescent moon shaped pendant have a look at Roman Cavalry horse harness fittings
Great finds John, as you brushed out that bowl and the face appeared I was startled.
The foot of a pot looked like early footwear.
Thanks for sharing.

What a day of weird and whacky finds! Looking forward to the lightbox reveal. Could you have a roman lunula pendant there or just wishful thinking!! 😊
That was my first thought too! Would be amazing if it was

You know we play Scottish Detectorist bingo. You have the things you always say and do. Works well 👍🏻🤣
Cheers john 👍😀🏴🏴
YES! Take that crescent thing to the museum! Does it have a hole in the top? Could be a pendant. Looks very very old.
Bronze ring thing I agree doesnt look like a ring but it has very snakelike appearance.
Thanks for the video my friend, keep them coming.
Looks like a snake to me as well.
Ah John enjoyed your film,A couple of days ago I also found a Queen Victoria shilling, 1865:😀
The twisted ring thingy looks like a brooch with most of the pin components missing, except for a small bit on each side.
What a terrific hunt my man! Wow just the right mix of coins and relics. The face bowl is one of the coolest finds I have seen. Looks to be copper? The half moon item with a square post may be a pocket watch winder.
So tiny yet outlived the other parts!
Hi John, two silver items and that nice bowl with a face in it…cheers John
Looking like a snake brooch ❤
On the silver again 💥🔥👌
Amazing 🤩
Great day John and thank you for sharing .
Rock and roll !!!
Great day!!!❤
15:40 It looks like a snake a version of an Ouroboros ring.
26:40 It almost looks like a very old cable connector.
Could the face in the little 'bowl' be a type of ceramic mold? Great video.
As people have said. The ring has a snake look to it. If it's eating its own tail, then it might be viking related. The Midgard serpent?
The half face thing reminds me of a pig.
Nice thimble, btw 👍
i thought oh ! its ET..
Great video thanks
👍👍
I think the bowl might be a Victorian copper face pin dish 😊
