  • Hi everyone!
    Today Alice is teaching you some basic BSL (British Sign Language) signs that might help you during these coronavirus times.
    People wearing masks makes life a lot more difficult for people who are deaf or hard of hearing because they can't lip read.
    If you can learn and use just a few signs, then you might be able to really help out somebody when you're out and about.
    We hope you enjoy the video!

    Started watching, thinking I'll come back & watch it... I was fixated, couldn't stop watching, finding the way you demonstrated clear & not too overwhelming.
    Probably will watch it again, though, just to help it sink in.

    hi i really want to learn sign lanuage so i can talk to me deaf friend more, and other people i may encounter in life, but i am autistic and find it really hard to make facial expressions for emotions and i forget to do that alot. would it matter if i didnt make facial expressions?

    • @harrietbrown6415
      @harrietbrown6415 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello! I'm not comfortable using facial expressions either. I know it's a good idea to mouth what you're signing, because some words have the same sign and people will rely on the shape of your mouth to understand. But I don't use facial expressions and I've never had issues. Good luck with your signing!

      Facial expression is very important in BSL. it tells us what you're saying and how you're feeling.
      We need see you eyebrows up to show a 'aha' kind of meaning.
      Eyebrows down, is show us a queasiness or your not sure.
      Frown
      Check bore
      Tongue out
      2 cheeks blow out
      All these things vital to us.
      If you don't use expression we don't know what you're saying, is it negative or positive?
      Also you need to NOT teach yourself BSL from learners.
      Many signs are wrong and so you're learning wrong sign.
      BSL is our language, we want people respect this. We don't want people who are learning teaching others who want to learn.

    For everyone's information -- Do NOT expect Deaf people to "read your lips" Only a small percentage can do that. It is very difficult to "lip- read" Best thing is to learn BSL from certified sign language teachers and take course that are taught by people who are educated in the teaching process of BSL.

  • @richardphillips1971

    Hi this is a good video but you don't say "sign language is spoken" it is not a spoken language it is better to say "× amount of people use sign language" sorry not having a go but good job on the actual video.

  • @KareASLDo
    @KareASLDo 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Only certified and qualified BSL teachers should teach. Not people who take a few courses. Always ask for credentials and certification. Some hearing people need to stop abusing and misappropriating the Deaf community and culture.

  • @heavymetalprincess8118
    @heavymetalprincess8118 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    There are a few incorrect signs here. One of them is “Learn” the way that is signed in the video is the wrong way round…. Outstretched dominant hand in front of you with palm facing up, then closing the fingers together as you move to the head. Imagine you are picking up the information from in front of you and putting it into your brain!
    If you are not a Deaf native BSL user, do not teach others. This is how the language gets taught incorrectly.
    As a CODA (child of deaf adults), I still do not possess the right to teach as this would be cultural appropriation, as is this video.

    • @karlosfandango4622
      @karlosfandango4622 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nicely said. I started learning BSL today, but fortunately watched some better quality videos. It was confusing me why things didn’t match up and I thought maybe the language had changed. Now I know this is just sloppy work.
      Am pretty sure the sign for evening is wrong as well. Should be two motions in the same direction, like half of night (or dark, think it’s the same I couldn’t make it out before)
