- Hi everyone!
Today Alice is teaching you some basic BSL (British Sign Language) signs that might help you during these coronavirus times.
People wearing masks makes life a lot more difficult for people who are deaf or hard of hearing because they can't lip read.
If you can learn and use just a few signs, then you might be able to really help out somebody when you're out and about.
We hope you enjoy the video!
just a note that those with mutism also use sign language!
Yeah I’m autistic ❤️
@@isaacanimation3719 not autism, mute people
@@definitelynotavaa some people with autism have selective mutism that’s why they said that
@@a.spe2419 oh ok
Here because I’m teaching my friends infant daughter with selective mutism from trauma BSL. (And some makaton symbols) She’s really loving it!
Hi Alice - this is wonderful and so helpful. I hope you decide to do more on BSL. I like the way you instruct and explain. Thanks.
You're a great teacher Alice, thanks for helping me on my BSL journey
Thank you for this excellent video! I am quite young but i'm still trying to learn and this video has helped me so so so much! ❤ I hope you do more videos about BSL ❤️🥰
Hi Alice thank you for showing me how to do sign language. I work in a shop and we get some customers that are deaf and it be nice to talk to them 😊
That's great, thanks Alice.
Started watching, thinking I'll come back & watch it... I was fixated, couldn't stop watching, finding the way you demonstrated clear & not too overwhelming.
Probably will watch it again, though, just to help it sink in.
Very much appreciated ☺️
Thank you
I know ASL. So cool to compare. Thanks! ❤
Sign language looks super awesome as well as super helpful. I wish i had learned this way back when 😞

They have started using BSL in my church, I learnt a little years ago when I was in the Red Cross, looking forward to starting a course in a couple of months, but in the meantime I will pick a few things up on TH-cam. Thanks for your video, I have started to follow your posts 👍

1:23 I know its not important, but goodbye coincided with you cardi disappearing.
Silliness aside, thank you for teaching us all.
Im an american learning BSL so i can communicate with my british friend who sometimes struggles to talk
im deaf and in bsl thank you is the chin out
Gd evening is good with sign old. Two fingers downwards from the top of your nose down. But ok
hi i really want to learn sign lanuage so i can talk to me deaf friend more, and other people i may encounter in life, but i am autistic and find it really hard to make facial expressions for emotions and i forget to do that alot. would it matter if i didnt make facial expressions?
Hello! I'm not comfortable using facial expressions either. I know it's a good idea to mouth what you're signing, because some words have the same sign and people will rely on the shape of your mouth to understand. But I don't use facial expressions and I've never had issues. Good luck with your signing!
thank you! :)@@harrietbrown6415
Facial expression is very important in BSL. it tells us what you're saying and how you're feeling.
We need see you eyebrows up to show a 'aha' kind of meaning.
Eyebrows down, is show us a queasiness or your not sure.
Frown
Check bore
Tongue out
2 cheeks blow out
All these things vital to us.
If you don't use expression we don't know what you're saying, is it negative or positive?
Also you need to NOT teach yourself BSL from learners.
Many signs are wrong and so you're learning wrong sign.
BSL is our language, we want people respect this. We don't want people who are learning teaching others who want to learn.
For everyone's information -- Do NOT expect Deaf people to "read your lips" Only a small percentage can do that. It is very difficult to "lip- read" Best thing is to learn BSL from certified sign language teachers and take course that are taught by people who are educated in the teaching process of BSL.
I'm interested in English sign language, but I don't know what sign language should I learn, ASL or BSL..
I'd say BSL
depends what country u live in
Hello please could you contact me about one to one bsl lessons please. Been trying to find how to contact you after seeing your advertisment online. Many thanks Richard
Hi Richard, we don't run BSL lessons ourselves, we run art sessions for people with learning disabilities, autism or both. If you are interested in finding out more about ArtWorks our website is www.artworks-sy.co.uk
@@artworkssy ah I see. My apologies. Maybe I have contacted the wrong person. But moving forward yes maybe a good contact for me. Thank you
I can speak and hear but can only communicate in sign as I am a nonverbal autistic person
I just wanna know that this is legit becuse I have a death friend and I wanted it to be easier for her to understand me
Very helpful but be careful I heard on another video that making a diamond shape means a naughty word
Diamond is a naughty word!
So Alice, what area are you in and where are you learning BSL, also, what level are you in BSL?
Hi this is a good video but you don't say "sign language is spoken" it is not a spoken language it is better to say "× amount of people use sign language" sorry not having a go but good job on the actual video.
Only certified and qualified BSL teachers should teach. Not people who take a few courses. Always ask for credentials and certification. Some hearing people need to stop abusing and misappropriating the Deaf community and culture.
CORRECT!!!!!!!!!
There are a few incorrect signs here. One of them is “Learn” the way that is signed in the video is the wrong way round…. Outstretched dominant hand in front of you with palm facing up, then closing the fingers together as you move to the head. Imagine you are picking up the information from in front of you and putting it into your brain!
If you are not a Deaf native BSL user, do not teach others. This is how the language gets taught incorrectly.
As a CODA (child of deaf adults), I still do not possess the right to teach as this would be cultural appropriation, as is this video.
Nicely said. I started learning BSL today, but fortunately watched some better quality videos. It was confusing me why things didn’t match up and I thought maybe the language had changed. Now I know this is just sloppy work.
Am pretty sure the sign for evening is wrong as well. Should be two motions in the same direction, like half of night (or dark, think it’s the same I couldn’t make it out before)
If you not deaf don’t teach sign language thanks
Why does it bother you, some people have deaf relatives or friends and want to be able to communicate with them, if u don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it😁
What are you talking about? I work with Special Needs Children and a lot of them want sign language but none of us know only do the most basic Monday-Friday so I think this is a great thing to learn. If you don't like this just don't watch.
@@jasminenjoroge1667 literally my deaf father its way easier to learn if you teach even the basic things to other people who are keen to learn a little
It is hard to try to learn from you as I can;t focus on anything other than your beautiful eyes :(
I am leaning bsl because one of my friends are deaf 🧏
Why no subtitles for deaf people please?
Because we can't HEAR it. Subtitles inportant.
So please use subtitles.
