Writing notes while studying is the most un-effective thing you can do when it comes to self studying! I like too watch videos, play games, quizzes, read textbooks etc as a part of the studying... and then I take down notes in my own words regarding what I learnt like important points, formulas or anything you can imagine! Its more of a summary but you can always break it down in paragraphs and use illustrations, boxes etc. So it goes like, study -> break -> write
