While I find hybrid systems for “efficiency” a joke, but for the utility aspect, a light hybrid system on an adventure bike would be awesome if it had power take offs, or even an easily demountable battery pack that could double as your camp battery.
The engine is a modernization of the original Revolution that was developed along with Porsche for the V-Rod that was in production from 2001-2017. It also was a liquid cooled, double overhead cam 4 valve per cylinder 60 degree V Twin and in fact it started out as 1131 cc but starting in 2005 the CVO models got a 1247 cc version and in 2008 the 1247 engine became the only engine for the entire V-Rod lineup. It wasn’t nearly as potent as this new one with 123 hp and a 9K redline but comparing this new engine to the one in my 2006 VRSC Street Rod I definitely can see the similarities. I was listing after a KTM Adventure but I’m really liking what I’m seeing in the Pan America.
Not a Harley man myself but it looks good the spec is impressive but could I get parts in the middle of Ethiopia as the BMW is catered for in a lot of the countries that you see Adventure bikes. So for sales, they need to make sure your journey is delayed waiting for parts.
534 lbs is lighter than I thought this would come in at. I can't imagine the Harley Dealers knowing how to sell this to people that don't wear leather covered in logos

What the video failed to mention is that this bike requires NO VALVE ADJUSTMENTS... All other bike manufacturers require expensive valve adjustments!! ... This is why I would buy this bike, there's an HD dealer everywhere you go, and the big one for me is NO costly VALVE ADJUSTMENTS to worry about!! SOLD.
No valve service interval maintenance! That would be a big factor in my purchasing decision. It could lessen the purchase pains of the sticker prices. Maintenance cost is not often mentioned in these review videos.
The suspension raising is a passive system, so the "raising" happens based on road inputs pumping up the rear shock. The shock will then maintain the elevated ride height until vehicle speed decreases. Also - the headlamp is not adaptive - it's a completely separate lamp which operates based on lean angle. This is lamp above the headlamp on the special models.
I dont know. HD enters to adventure market with "average" bike. Compare to other well established models. HD did well, but I'm not sure how many adv riders will switch to Panamerica.
I think that is the nicest bike Harley Davidson has come out with in recent times. And I wonder if they ever plan to use this bike's engine in a modern day cruiser, just like Honda did with the Rebel 1100, that would also be really nice.
Great first impression & overall excellent peek under the tent by TFLbike. Next up: Consumer test & evaluation. Would be great to see HD nail this from start to finish.
Great first impression... new bike with new engine and new electronics... We will have to wait to see how many recalls we gonna have on the PanAm and of course how reliable the bike is... with great quality Harley will have a winner here
Having got a test ride yesterday off the Demo Truck, I can say after my ride there is no doubt that it's a serious contender in the Big ADV market, and if you get the Special it's already loaded with pretty much every gizmo and feature that you really need. I'm really interested to see what H-D do in future iterations (yes I would be really surprised if this doesn't make the sales H-D are looking for).

@@rlsedition so before we go farther, that wasn't me trying to be arrogant, that was just having some fun with a very traditional(ly slow) market and the clarity this article provides. Just having fun, mate. With that in mind, unless Harley is trying to enter the hyper naked market with one of the top 10 fastest street bikes in the World, I don't think the Bronx will be flying down the highway (It is marketed as a 750 which would be in the MT-07, Suzuki 650, Bonneville category). I also don't think that Harley is trying to compete with Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, and Triumph. This looks like competition with BMW given how close all of the specs (and obviously) pricing will be. Getting down to brass tax, the Pan America is 530 pounds, pounds with a v twin making 150 footpounds of torque, putting it in direct competition with the BMW adventure line, platforms that do not come out of those bikes. If that engine and frame was stripped down to 490lbs it would still outweigh all hypernakeds on the market and deliver maybe another 3-5lbs or torque. The BMW 1250 is 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and the XSR, MT-09, etc. is a 2.7 second 0-60 without mods. Note: BMW has not moved this platform off of their ADV, nor have the majority of their competitors. TLDR: Not being a jerk, just coherently reading the specs and trends and flexing my mad UJM privilege because when it comes to specs they are second to none unless the competitor makes something completely ridiculously fast or luxurious.
The Pan in Aus is very expensive, about 5K more than a R 1250 GS Adventure. There will be some that buy it but I would imagine it will be about as a rare as a Livewire (never seen one)
wow its affordable and it does have good tech, not bad for a good entry. hopefully harley keep this momentum here in USA... will see if a 700cc comes along
There is new royality in ADV. The resale in the GS is collapsing already. BMW has to go back and redesign there product or give up on the market. The V RODE type engine is amazing and no valve maintenance. HD gives the owner not only the best tech bike but also the cool factor with ownership. Anyone bagging the HD probably cant afford a adventure bike.
I just turned 50. Been pissed at Harley for over 20 years for not really being a motor company. Let's face it, they have been stuck on 45 degree v-twin cruisers for 100 years. No real sportbikes. No dirt bikes. No engine configuration differences for a century. That pissed me off. Lack of vision. A company run by lawyers and stockholders. Not motorcyclists. 150 hp on this is going in the right direction.
Price and features look really good, but what blows me away is the weight....This is lighter than my 1200 Sportster was? The main thing that tickles me is how they are going to keep the old customers from picking fights at the dealership when "new" customers come it to check out the new products.
Really looking forward to test riding this bike. I think HD's biggest obstacle in sales is going to be the dealer network. There will be some dealers that will embrace this bike and its potential customers but I think a lot of dealers are going to be stuck in their old ways of arrogance and superiority and turn off many potential buyers.
I don’t know about that adjustable height thing. It’d be cycling an awful lot. Just one more thing to break. Also, good specs over all but kinda behind on ground clearance. More than a strom I guess.
Need to see those 0-60 times. Need to see the suspension travel. Need to see what you get across all models at the base price. What is the best bang for your buck.

Congrats to HD they got the price and weight right to be competitive. For those of us that are height challenged the low seat height is welcome. At 31.1" for the Special I could save the $1000.00 they want for Adaptive Ride Height. The base bike matches well to the base R1250gs with cast wheels targeting the riders that stick to the tarmac. I look forward to seeing one in person.
I have a Van Van 200, Himalayan 400, Moto Guzzi 750, and am thinking about trading my Road Glide Special for the Pan America because my wife doesn't ride anymore. The BMW dealers around here suck. KTMs put out way too much heat to the crotch, and Triumphs are only near the big cities that are too far and too in the city for me. No mention of QuickShifter that all high end Adv bike have now. Other than the headlight it looks good.
I hope they make a Buell type sporty bike soon too. Would be sweet addition to the range.
Buell are back, actually.
@@electric7487 Oh????
@@electric7487 just Googled it. Sweet. Pity mr. Buell isnt involved. Hope they keep the spirit alive non the less.
The Bronx and live wire are as close as you'd get to that. One of them is not really that big of a hit and the other one is furloughed, or will be one of HD's designed but never put on sale exercises.
That's what this is with nobbies!
This is probably the coolest bike HD has made since the V-Rod.
The second bike they’ve made that’s even worth considering in 20 years lol
Very cool! Hope you 2 get seat time on it soon. Thanks for this breaking news. I like that auto height feature a lot!
Anyone looking at this bike dont let old bikers bring you down haters will be haters.cant wait for some people getting ride time then we will really known.but pa sounds like its going to be a great bike time will tell.
That's right right. The hardcore traditionalist harley fan might hate this. As much as I Iove classic harley style, Harley needs this. I hope they ignore any haters long enough for this to take hold.
@@tardisrider25 it's actually probably pretty nice bike the problem is it's supported by the motor company who no longer knows how to do that. The suits have ruined the company
While I find hybrid systems for “efficiency” a joke, but for the utility aspect, a light hybrid system on an adventure bike would be awesome if it had power take offs, or even an easily demountable battery pack that could double as your camp battery.
Good touch having two younger people doing this presentation.
BMW 1250 GSA owner here. I’m not laughing anymore, a good effort. Chain turns me off versus shaft, but still some great options and innovations.
534 lbs is lighter than I thought this would come in at. I can't imagine the Harley Dealers knowing how to sell this to people that don't wear leather covered in logos
That is going to be the second biggest problem they have. The arrogance of the Harley-Davidson dealers and current owners When anybody walks in not wearing the uniform will be treated completely different.
@@duanesmith5074 I swear I don't know who you people are. I don't own a HD. I don't have "the uniform." And I've walked in plenty of HD dealerships to look at bikes or parts and I've never had any arrogance from them. In fact they've been really cool asking what bikes I do own and why.
@Jay Bee That's not arrogance. That's honesty.
I guess it depends where you live. Most of the dealers I stop in at are full of enthusiasts, contrast with multibrand dealerships with sales staff that don't even ride.
Just like any type of dealership, if they are interested in making money they will make sure their staff is trained on the products they are selling.
@@duanesmith5074 , where do you live and when was the last time you were in a dealership? I have found that you get treated how you treat others. If you go in there with a preconceived notion about how you will be treated you are putting off body language that conveys being closed off. Try being open and engaging and full of questions with the right body language and tone of voice and you will be amazed at how different people in general treat you.
I think this bike will save the company
I dont know. HD enters to adventure market with "average" bike. Compare to other well established models. HD did well, but I'm not sure how many adv riders will switch to Panamerica.
@@lukask4498 Ditching my KTM for the HD Panamerica.
What is the maintenance schedule? How does it compare to the completion in regards to cost, frequency, and wrenching ability?
I think that is the nicest bike Harley Davidson has come out with in recent times.
And I wonder if they ever plan to use this bike's engine in a modern day cruiser, just like Honda did with the Rebel 1100, that would also be really nice.
When you create a full review consider including a sidebar comparing the Pan America to the Buell Ulysses
It sure looks like a refined Ulysses where they found a way to add 60ish pounds along the way.. I hope the new HD has improved fork seals 🤞🤞🤞
Not a traditional Harley consumer, but I would absolutely look at this as an option when I retire my current ADV bike. Love the looks and specs.
No way! Harley nailed the pricing!!! Didn’t think they would. I figured they’d screw up and do 25k minimum. I might actually buy one
WoW!! HD moving past the 1970’s technology!!! Actually impressed with the design.
I’m curious on what other bikes will this engine end up in … great job
The more I see it, the more I like it. I'll wait anxiously to see how the quality holds up before making the jump, but huge Kudos to H.D.! This thing looks like an absolute beast on paper, and like I said, this this is starting to look good to me also.
Very nice. I hope it is given a fair run and quality is outstanding. I would not mind one for sure if I could keep my other H-D as well.
They'll let you own as many as your bank and wife will...
I'm sitting here wondering if they discontinued the bronx to see how market sales for this bike go, then turn it into a hyper-naked if things go well.
If you watch the video from Harley, when they talk about future models built around the engine, they flash images of the Bronx.
@@cockneyblue I'll believe it when I see it.. in my rearview on my XSR900 ;)
I hope so. The Bronx looked great.
@@jgcapers3860 Don't be so arrogant. You might eat those words.
I'm impressed, can't wait till you test one.
Definitely special version with orange/white colour, I wonder if HD will make smaller version to get younger buyers into HD range?
Impressive bike, im glad HD came into the 21st century. By the way go rangers
LGR!!!
I like this and the tech and the lowering is cool my Yamaha YWR is a bit tall wish it had that feature
Wasn't liking the styling in the beginning. But it is definitely starting to grow on me. Great review btw, thanks
Like it! Hoover headlight and all!
I dig it.
Price and features look really good, but what blows me away is the weight....This is lighter than my 1200 Sportster was? The main thing that tickles me is how they are going to keep the old customers from picking fights at the dealership when "new" customers come it to check out the new products.
I’m liking it other than the headlight, can’t wait to ride one on a demo day... I do like my R1200GS so she’s gonna have to steal my heart... 😊
I can't get a river rock gray in the special?
Where is it made?
Old school Harley Rider so in the beginning I was sceptical, but man they are not f****** around here. The price for what you get, amazing 👍🏻👍🏻🇨🇦
I don't have a prayer of owning one, but I dig it so far! Excited for you fellas to show us how it'll ride soon!
I don’t know about that adjustable height thing. It’d be cycling an awful lot. Just one more thing to break. Also, good specs over all but kinda behind on ground clearance. More than a strom I guess.
I think this is a great first effort into this market by HD.I'll be sure and give it a good thrashing when I get the opportunity.
It looks great and has awesome features. I was scared the price would be redic, but it seems competitive. I would love to ride one
Need to see those 0-60 times. Need to see the suspension travel. Need to see what you get across all models at the base price. What is the best bang for your buck.
That drop suspension sounds really good
Great to see Harley moving ahead. Looking forward to seeing more on this one.
Cool bike, is really like to see a comparison with its competition (KTM 1290 adventure, Ducati multistrada, BMW gs 1250)
I would have thought that it would have had a shaft drive system similar to the GS assuming it has a 1250cc and 150hp
I am all for bikes that enable riders to explore new adventures. That said, this bike is way heavier than I would even consider for an adventure bike. I’d love to see one based on their sportster model with about 200 pound shaved off.
I wish they didn't cancel the Bronx.
I think it's actually just delayed to next year
@@jeepstertj556 if that's the case, then I would be happy

I’m with ya...that’s more my style than the adv bike, but honestly, this bike intrigues me...
I love the engine in this bike. I'm not really into the adventure bike segment, but if they put this in a sportier bike I would be interested.
I am into adventure bikes; mine a BMW R1200GS. I don't spend much time offroad - the bike is a supremely comfortable tourer that isn't afraid of forest service and gravel campground roads.

Let's see if this bike displaces the BMW GS at Eagle Rider or will it be available along side it?
Great video, love the way you presented the new Harley, who knew they had it in them .
Makes me wonder what the cruiser version is going to bring to the table.
Wow. LOBE the B roll at the start. Fantastic
This looks like a modern day take on a bike ready for battle. If they still used bikes in the military, I think they’d win a contract with this easily.
I am NOT a Harley fan. HOWEVER, Harley should take a bow. This bike is extremely innovative. I like the looks, they are totally unique. ALL ADVs are fairly ugly, this isn't an exception, but it is unique. It can't be mistaken for anything else. I can't wait for some reviews. I hope it is good AND I hope Harley sells bucket loads and sees a turn in fortunes... Will this be the bike that saved Harley?
Good point. I've replied similar to you in regards to the "ugly" comments...never seen an adv bike that I would call aesthetically appealing. At least this one is unmistakable.

The BMW dealers around here suck. KTMs put out way too much heat to the crotch, and Triumphs are only near the big cities that are too far and too in the city for me.
