    I enjoy seeing genuine, regular people exploring the outdoor in their lovely countryside. I love seeing how they camp, their gear, the scenery. Basically, I like going along on their camping trips-even vicariously! It is great seeing people’s ‘neck of the woods’, especially places I’ll not likely visit myself. Great scenery and a presenter who is simply enjoying the experience is what keeps me coming back. Just be you, enjoy what you’re doing, and that will usually do just fine.

      Wow, thanks Dee, way to make my day!
      Glad you enjoyed it, I like my neck of the woods and love getting out and recharging the battery a bit. It is always just me, I rarely have a plan, but that is the good part, each trip has its own little bits to enjoy. Plus there is always lots of furry friends as co-stars 🙂
      Thanks for dropping by and for the wonderful feedback, really appreciate it ✌🏻

    G’day Chris.
    Great website, love the no frills and lack of advertisements. I stumbled across your channel while looking for a rundown on a new swag etc.
    I thought you did a great job with your assessment and evaluation, which was honest and upfront.
    Also the camping videos are top notch, makes me/us want to hit the bush far more often!
    Keep up the great work…if I can call it that…lol.
    Cheers from Queensland.

    Wow, Chris…that wind was insane! Credit to the swag & tarp for staying up in that. Nice job!

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, it was a but full on there for a few hours. The tarp took a pounding for about 2 hours straight with bark and sticks flying everywhere. It is a good bit of gear though and it still in one piece. My ute got a good whack though and left a dent, nice little reminder to check weather forecasts more carefully I reckon. It was nice once the rain started and the wind died down though ✌🏻

      yeah, the tarp took a hammering but held up well. I did have 5 deep screw in stake holding down the back and 2 guy lines on each pole in the end. A branch did whack one of the corners and knocked over the pole so I replaced me normal ones with those ones for the air swag with the little hook thing on the top. Did the trick ✌🏻

    I used to cook with Foil, but its all in moderation. Generally we use a 'Tangia' when we have cooked on our hikes. It has bee n a while since we did a thru hike carrying all of our hiking gear including tents.
    A lovely camp spot Chris.

    The connection is decades of prolonged use. The tests conducted-at least in the US-were done boiling a think 5 gallons of water in aluminum pots, down to about a quart. So, take that for what its worth. Short term its not an issue.
    I personally use all stainless steel for cooking (except, of course, aluminum foil), but thats because in a pinch I can scrub it with a handful of dirt.

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      yeah that's a good idea. I was pondering whether to buy one of those awnings but have hesitated wondering if it would be a pain having the car locked to the camp, so I have always just stuck with the tarp. Probably a good case for both though on those nights when it's windy as!

    Nice vid . Heavy wind is a campers and kayakers bane . Nice to see the DD tarp stood up to branches striking it .They are great tarps, that's what we use too . I dont know if there are any good spots to camp around the lakes out your way. if there is maybe it would be good to have a camp and a bit of hiking around the lakes . I am hoping to get there this summer and do a kayak bush stealth camp on Lake Burley Griffin lol . hopefully AZIO wont spot me ;) . BTW what mattress do you use when hiking ?

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yeah, the trap did well all things considered. I did have a lot of stakes holding it in the end. The air mattress I hike with is one I bought on Temu. It is sold out now so I can't get a link, but it is pretty good. Bit heavy but it is also 10cm thick and nice and wide.
      As for camping around the lake, no places you can do it without getting moved along I suspect. I do go for a walk around the lake 2-3 times each week. There is some nice kayaking at the eastern end of the lake up Molonglo river and you could probably find a place to sneak away if you wanted to ✌🏻

      Googong is off limits to camping and they're pretty rigid on that from what I understand. It's a water source. There might be options on the far side (away from the township) where it might be okay...one of the good things about having a kayak! ✌🏻

    The Aboriginals indigenous people did not look after this land for us at all. Basically this was their land before any white settlers came. So we should be respecting their land and look after. Camping is the best way to do it it's natural and it's so warm taking. People need to do more camping and more beautiful natural environment bushwalking and enjoy this beautiful country.
