    G'day Chris, nice little adventure and as usual a great Camp set up. Loving the sounds of the stream.
    Squatting for a long periods of time can be tiring. Asians start to squat from an earlier age and are able to sustain that squating well throughout their life.
    Dinner smells good from here 🤣 Looks like you will be Cave Man style on this night. 🥹
    Thank you for taking us along your adventure Chris. Sounds like you had a warm dry night and a great time away from it all. 👍🏼🙏🏼🤠

      I'm East England, area known as The Fens. Its very flat! UK camping is mainly on campsites as there is no right to wild camp in most of England. Scotland is good for it though as they have different laws.

      @@familyofsix1857 Can't say I know much about that area. There are some amazing UK camping channels and I love watching them, the woods are 'real' woods, different to what we get and those vast, treeless hills up north are spectacular. Campgrounds are good too, so long as you're not too close to a rowdy neighbour 😛 Good luck finding your place ✌🏻

    What is the best tarp setup you have found for solo camping So your tarp will cover your swag and some chairs and cooking gear to cover everything from the weather. Also what size tarps do you use. Thank you

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      G'day, big question and a nit to it. Mostly it is some version of a lean-to and an A-Frame. Depends on the wind, likelihood of rain and where the trees are in relation to the wind. I like to keep them up about head height for the Ridgeline, but again, will compromise if it's going to storm. I also use a plough point from time to time, usually if there is only one tree around. If there are no trees I'll set up a C-Fly with a couple of sticks. Those three tend to keep me sorted 🙂
      The tarp in this video was a 3m x 3m nylon tarp. Great bit of kit. I have had it for years and it's still going strong. I also have a 4m x 4m version as well to give that extra bit of protection if it is going to be wet and windy, but also as you say, so you can sit outside the swag.
      Thanks for stopping by and taking a minute to leave a comment and ask a question, appreciate it ✌🏻

      G'day Chris, no it's not Bailetti I don't think - they usually brand their gear pretty well. I have had it for 15 or so years so not really sure. I bought it at a David Jones I think. They make a great coffee for sure ✌🏻

    Cheating the family eating lamb cutlets. I'd feel guilty too. I can't enjoy moyself without taking the children along and seeing them enjoy themselves too. For that reason I have a lot of camping gear. I'm at the age now where I should have time to myself, so a swag is something I need in my camping gear. In 1100 wide, the Darche Dawn To Dusk and 23Zero dual are the best picks. Don't like the idea of centre pole designs, especially if I were to put a swag on a stretcher. The tarps and ropes I have.
    As for your spork lost, wash your hands before using your fingers, as you might be absent-minded as to where they've been too 😅

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      ha ha ha, yeah, I has sanitiser around all the time too.
      I did take the kids when they were kids, but they're both grown men now so I am in a different period of life. I also really love the chance to be away from everything and pause. The kids sometimes come and I don't record them usually and that's cool too. Can't persuade the wife though 😛
      Couldn't agree more, the middle pole would be a pain I reckon.

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      yeah for sure, great smell. I bought a Kathmandu Icarus sleeping bag about 12 months ago and that serves me really well in the cold. Goes down to -5C comfort, lower in the extreme. Goes well, bit exxy but they often have 50% sales 🙂 For the swag I always leave the down quilt in there, add the sleeping bag if it is going to drop below zero. Stay nice an toasty ✌🏻

    Enjoyed the vid. You always produce great vids documenting awesome experiences. A question: Why would you use a swag for this type of camping when a Coleman instant 4 or 6 man tent would do the same thing? Tent would offer such better facilities in all ways especially if in bad weather, or frost. They are a similar price to a quality swag, take up about the same space in vehicle (or less). Setup time would be the same if not less considering a tarp being installed over swag. So many other benefits comparing a swag and the type of tent I mentioned. I am just curious why your equipment choice.

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I just like swags I guess. I have several tents and use them as well, especially if I am with the kids, but I don't tend to record them though. I also like the foam mattress for quietness. But you're right, they all work and take just the same time and space.

      @@outandabout_oz was given a big daddy swag in April. Mattress was crap for my back so purchased a 23zero mattress to use as a base and use kings mattress as a topper. This configuration is incredibly comfortable. Using a darche double sleeping bag canvas exterior with flannel lining. Incredibly warm and comfortable combination, even in -3 degrees over night temps.

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yeah, 23 Zero have similar sleeping bags as well. Darche and 23 Zero seem to have the most reliable gear. I prefer a down quilt in the swag and add in a down sleeping bag if it's going to drop well below zero. I get a bit restricted in a sleeping bag after a while. Like the idea of a topper as well though, might keep that in mind if the mattress starts to wear thin, cheers ✌🏻

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      G'Day Jerry, thanks for watching and taking a minute to reach out. The kettle / pot is a Stanley pot. It's a great size and the lid locks in place, but it's a bit tall and narrow so I need to be careful. The tarp is a 3x3m DD Hammocks tarp I bought off the shaft. Had it about 5 years I guess and it is as good as the day I bought it and I have given it a pretty good work out. I am not clever enough to make one myself 😛✌🏻

    Does the inside of the swag warm up from body heat? I hate the cold and am nervous to try. Summer was great though

    • @outandabout_oz
      @outandabout_oz  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      yep, it sure does. The air is much warmer than outside, but the walls are still cold so if it is totally sealed up condensation will build up when it's cold. Having the ends open is usually enough, but he air temp will drop a bit. Sort of a give and take thing.
      I actually like have the main door wide open even in the middle of winter and just have a good quilt to sleeping bag. Condensation is the pits.
