Golden bat originated in a type of street theater with cards and narration, with a design clearly copied from the disguise the Phantom of the opera used in the ball. Then in the 60's it was revived as a more superherolike character, and even ripped off the Shadow's laugh. There's even a gunslinger version too from before the 60's if I recall correctly. So no, he wasn't the first superhero, not even close.
