It took ages to convince them that I had infact not left the UK for about a year, and I have NO idea where they got that idea from, it was bizarre (am I taking sleep-holidays?)

Donations are taken laying flat on a table, usually turning something in the hand, or squeezing to keep the flow of blood going. The needle is exposed while giving blood, not bandaged up. And as previously mentioned the bags have to be below for it to drain into the bag. And as for that bit about it taking several hours... it's about 30 minutes-1 hr depending on how fast the blood flows.
In the first cigarette clip in this video the cigarette was the right way meaning that Amir flipped it around so his mouth was on the partially burnt end.
I can't help but notice that they're actually receiving blood rather than actually donating it. Or at least that's what the setup was. Still loved the vid haha
