Unless you are staying in a luxury hotel, always bring all your own toiletries. I've been to London and stayed in budget hotels many many times, and noticed that soap is all you get and sometimes you just get a sachet so I always bring even my own soap
2:42 every major train station (waterloo, kings cross, liverpool street, victoria..) has at least one water refill station, and all of the Prêts too! free water!
And if you do forget an adapter, at least for USB charging devices- you can use a TV port to charge (slower, harder to reach bc it's on the back, but it works as long TV is on). If you see a supermarket or a 'PoundLand' store you can get an adapter for a pound (gift shops were asking 7-10 ponds for the simple adapter, and 27 pounds for the 'worldwide' adapter 😶).
Just got back. Make sure your voltage adapter has USB ports. I bring my own soap and I also bring washcloths which their hotels never have. Layers are the best - leggings plus a big top but also pack a fleece or a warm sweater. This last time I brought everything black.
Nailed it! Plug adapter for charging - absolutely. We had great October weather, but layers were ideal for cool mornings, warm afternoons. And a compact umbrella protects from the unexpected rain. Great advice, Jess!
I have less than 2 weeks before I arrive in London. You have been a great help to me. I am not freaking out about what to do when I get there. Thank you so much.
Jess - good call on keeping copies of your credit cards and passport. Hopefully, no one will ever need them but they'll be glad they have them if they do!
Thanks for the tip about copying credit cards! I had already scanned in my passport, but it didn't occur to me that if my credit card gets stolen, I would have a harder time cancelling the card without the number.
Have you heard of revolut? It’s an app with a card that can do transactions in pounds, dollars, and euros. Obviously don’t rely on just that card, but it’s a really cool thing and instantly can be locked or cancelled in the app. Where in London are you? I love your passion! ❤️
My fiancée managed to blow up my last adapter - her hair straighteners weren’t dual voltage! All too easy to do. Love the outtakes at the end, cute touch.
Thanks! I hadn't thought of some of those tips. I'm going to be all over the UK for the next two months, and I want my packing to be as streamlined as possible.
Your videos were so helpful for me on my trip to London and you've inspired me to start a channel/blog for my hometown! Do you mind sharing what video editing software you use? I'm not sure where to begin with that. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
You can buy plug adapters at the airport or at stores in UK like WH Smith. If you are American buy a British sim card on pay as you go basis here in UK - much cheaper than American phones! For now (Brexit may mess this up) European visitors have same price as at home EU roaming rights on their phones.
Binging through these while I’m planing my uk trip 😊. I would have thought most people in 2019 would have their banking app on their phone which would show your card details
A lot of older people won't and anyway, although it may be useful, it's not much use if your phone gets stolen or dies. It's always good to have the photocopied versions as a backup. I hope you enjoyed your UK visit.
Geoffrey W Ashley it makes little difference on the phone, it’s a bankcard just like any other bankcard. The app advantage is you can do your banking through the app but equally can do it with any Internet connection. The wonderful thing about them is if you are going to Europe you can spend them in euros, England you can spend it in pounds, and also there is an account for dollars. I wouldn’t have it as the only option but I find it’s the only one I ever use as it has such exquisite exchange rates up to the minute. Happy travels!
Always honey! I hope you continue to enjoy London! When I lived in England I got stuck living in the West Midland so nothing as glamorous as where you are LOL.
Also, right around when this video was made flagship phones (iPhone XR, Pixel 2, and Galaxy S20, among others) started supporting eSIM cards. By now unless you’re rocking a budget model it probably supports the technology. (Like the Galaxy A54 does and I’d call that a midrange model.) eSIM cards are kind of like gift cards for cell service: you pay for a code (usually a QR these days) that you enter into a certain screen in your phone’s Settings menu, and boom, you have access to a second network. Since eSIMs are digital products they can be cheaper (even the more deluxe packages with voice, text, and unlimited data are about US$5 a day) and you can get them delivered instantly. Exact compatibility can vary, so of course read up on your options.
Absolutely love your videos.. they are so useful . Thank you for the free guide ❤ i am really looking forward to my visit in may and also my stay there fore higher education !

Hi there! Any chance you can update this post Covid? My husband and I are coming the second half of May till the end of May, and we are basically doing a whistle stop tour from London all the way up to Scotland! Cannot figure out the coat to bring… I know it needs to be at least water resistant… But waterproof?
Would you need copies of your credit cards if you have their apps on your phone? Or at least access to their website? What you actually need to do is inform your bank and credit card companies that you're traveling.
Hey Jess!! I’m coming to London next week and see it’s still pretty “cool” temperature wise. Is it okay to bring comfortable black knee high boots? Also, for the warmer days, what about nice flip flop sandals? Not the rubbery cheap kind? TIA!! 😊

There are TH-cam videos if you need help. If you have at least an iPhone 11 you can use eSims. Don’t know about Android.

Nope, they're all pretty similar :) Here's one on Amazon: amzn.to/2U72YDW I do like ones like that with USB plugs for phone chargers and such, but it's up to you if you want that.
What about sim card usage and etc.?
I have used eSIMs from an App called Aíralo when in Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Mexico, Malta, Cabo Verde, Turkey and love it. Always worked for me and is easy to use and install. There are TH-cam videos if you need help. If you have at least an iPhone 11 you can use eSims. Don’t know about Android.
What SIM card company would you recommend with great deals on data plans. Especially for a broke student 😄

Perfect! We’re in London 2nd April. Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching Anne!
What about an oyster card?
I’m visiting London in June is there anything that is really necessary to know?
Here are some special events happening in June: th-cam.com/video/D5iae6n1dOU/w-d-xo.html
I enjoyed yourblog.
I could really use this information as I plan on travelling back to the UK. I was there about 20 yrs ago and I ran into exactly this problem and I had no one to tell me otherwise. Please re-post your video about using a Sim card. I cannot find it. Some of the ones I've tapped into that I thought would show the same demonstration that you alluded to actually talked around the issue but did not show the same demonstration. Thank You.

I am going to London in July. I don’t plan on calling any family members back in America. All I want to do is take pictures on my phone do I need to have a SIM card just for that?
If you’re just taking pictures, then no. You could buy a pay as you go sim when you get here though, then you could use it to call home or wherever.
If you don't need to have data while on the go then no.
What socket they have different ones
We showed!
