    I love travelling to London in the winter. The crowds are lighter, accommodation rates are down and you can easily get tickets to things. By Canadian standards it isn’t cold although the bone-chilling damp can go right through you. I am fine with my lightest puffer jacket and waterproof footwear for the inevitable shower.

      I've found that bringing a little binocular/monocular is really helpful, not just for seeing the details in the ceilings of cathedrals and the huge art up high, or even sights from a distance, but also for seeing travel schedules in train stations and airports o you don't have to run for them. I ordered a celestron monocular for like $19 on amazon, totally worth it.

    I live up north and it's baltic the now, coming down next week I need to remember that London is a tad warmer than the rest of the UK too. Was there in September and layers were a saviour, the train down wasn't too bad but out and about was colder and the museums were warm so being able to add and remove them as need be was easier than being too hot or cold. I had a vest top on, a lightweight loose long sleeved top plus my jumper and coat which all worked nicely.

    Re the gloves - I tend to double up on gloves. I wear a pair of fingerless gloves (the ones that only have the tips cut off) and then a pair of normal gloves over the top of them. This way if I need to I can take the top glove off and have my fingers free to use my phone, use my keys, use my train ticket, without freezing my hands offs because it is still technically a gloved hand.

      maybe just visit in the summertime, then. Could be a good escape from the heat, my cousin lived there working for ASU and told me serious heat stories. It's not cold in London in the summer, except for maybe some evenings that need a bit of a sweater. The other big factor is the humidity, the cooler temps are still more humid than you have in AZ, so it might not be the same as your cool temps.

    Problem with London it's been wet rather than cold this winter. It's very rare these days to see snow as far south as London, it might happen once every three/five years and even then it never amounts to much. When I was a kid in the 80s, it used to snow bucketloads every year and you did need to wrap up because it would be sub zero for days/weeks. Just like other parts of the world, Global warming is a thing and can't be denied anymore.

      @leighceee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Evelyn Rodarte Hey Evelyn! I couldn’t say 100% but the months with the least rain would be the end of July and August! These are usually our busiest times as it is school holidays and summer! The rest of the months really are hit and miss... For example, our coldest/rainiest month used to be December around 6-7 years ago but the last two years have been quite mild in December with one or two days of rain! It definitely changes all the time!😋

      In short no....but....its a different kind of cold to there. It's not a dry, crisp cold but (usually) a damp cold (its a maritime weather system here). I've met American's and Canadian's who, although the temperature was nowhere near as low as they usually experience in their winters, felt colder as the damp cold was not one they were used to. Chilled to the bone was how they described it. It's worth noting that we only get a few weeks of real cold though, not 3-4 months long cold snaps. Layer up with a decent, water resistant coat/jacket and you'll be fine (the other advantage of layering up is that you're more likely to find a use for all the individual layers at home as well).
