  • @andrewthompsonuk1
    @andrewthompsonuk1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Had one of those hubs come loose once on a Ford. Dealer had broken a wheel stud so they removed the bearing but they did not clean off the rust before reinstalling. Nor did they bend up the locking tabs on the bolts.

    Well heck! I wanted to see how you removed all of that. My stepson has the same car and is simply having issues getting the wheel studs off to put new ones back in. And it looks like the wheel bearing and some sliver of a thin piece behind that is getting in the way. He can't even remove the wheel bearing itself to be able to remove or put on the studs.

    • @TheDisgruntledMechanic
      @TheDisgruntledMechanic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for making a point for me. People always ask why I do not give sizes and torque specs. This scenario is exactly why i don't. If the person does not have the exact vehicle these could be different. And I have gotten non OEM parts and the sizes have been different which was the exact case with this vehicle when I did this job. So if your part was replaced before and not stock these sizes could differ.

  • @mechanic808

    be careful not to smash the tip of the nut tread when hitting it..i did that 1s and it kinda ate the tread on the CV joint alittle..but really because its just the outer end it dont really matter to much. just next time need to replace the axle if u ever need to take it apart again for something...a soft mallet will not be as bad as a sledge or dead blow hammer....ty for the recap on how to do the job..been awhile since i did 1 of those jobs...i forgot if its a press in or bolt in type bearing...aloha...oh ya..those 1/2" drive stubby impacts from matco are really handy to invest in...even the 3/8" stubbys are cool to...i just got a 3/8" drive air ratchet with a wobble tip and that thing comes in handy alot...ck it out..u mite like it too :)

    • @miked4076
      @miked4076 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's the same, just don't skimp on a 100+ ft lb. torque wrench for the hub bolts. With the wrong angle and wrong tool those things are insane to torque. Torquing those 3 hub bolts is the most advanced part of this whole thing. I got it done but messed up a few times and bought new bolts a couple times because they strip very easily. Isn't there a book "The Art of Torquing" haha

  • @joelopez6525

    • @TheDisgruntledMechanic
      @TheDisgruntledMechanic  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only have the 3/8 but what you say about them having the same power is what I have also heard. I was actually surprised it didn't take off the caliper mounting bracket bolts with out me breaking them loose with a breaker bar. But overall for it's size it does very good! What the hell buy both!

    Fuk I just spent fifty bucks on a 34 mm socket to loosen wheel bearing nut god dammit!!!!!!!

  • @beeboi179
    @beeboi179 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    shouldn't be using impact to put hub nut on ruins hub assembly... and when doing brake pads always good practice to change rotor with them...

    • @TheDisgruntledMechanic
      @TheDisgruntledMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +beeboi179 I use impact only to run nut in so far. I then torque to spec. I see no harm in that and see many mechanics do it. Thanks for commenting!
