Gymnasts try 'OLYMPIC SPEED SKATING' Without Practice! {Beijing 2022}

- I’ve been challenged by The National Lottery to take on some of the Winter Sports that National Lottery players help fund, by trying out Short Track Speed Skating with athletes Branden Marshall and Ethan Treacy, at the National Lottery funded National Ice Centre in Nottingham.

3:52: Yes, Joanna :) in the last winter olympics, Ester Ledecká (from the Czech Republic) competed in both woman paralell giant slalom (snowboard) and super-G :) she ended up winning both :) she specialized in snowboarding so the super-G win was an absoulte shock to her (I reccomend watching her reaction)

Love watching all of you, but I think Joanna is the best. Her ability to try anything without the athletic background the lads have is so inspiring to me.
Well, she's done cheerleading and that requires a lot of the skills you need for gymnastics for example, but yeah it's different from being and elite athlete. It's amazing what she can do

My friend went from figure skating to speed skating, and then back to figure skating again. She was fast lol 😆🏴⛸️
Ester Ledecká won gold medals in the super-G in alpine skiing and in the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding, becoming the first person to win two gold medals at the same Winter Olympics using two different types of equipment (skis and snowboard).

To answer Joanna’s question, it is possible to compete in two different sport during the Olympics. During the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang in 2018 Dutch athlete Jorien ter Mors competed in both Speed Skating and Short Track. Although the sports are closely related, they are two different disciplines. She won a medal for both (🥇for Speed Skating and 🥉for Short Track)🙌🏽
The relay race was one of the best things I've seen in a long time! So much fun!

I hope from a personal perspective, that we will see you guys taking part in some of the Paralympic Sports, it would be great to give those guys a chance to show that there are sports out there for people with a wide range of disabilities & their abilities.

Tons of athletes do double sports with one focus for summer and one for winter. I know Canada has had cyclists who are also short-track speed skaters, and track and field stars cross to bobsledding and luge because of the fast starts needed.

Actually considering Joanna didn’t have the most training in any sport just her brother showing her some gymnastic I give her the most credit. She jumps into anything and tries her hardest. Go Joanna !

It is so easy to watch some of these sports and go, well I could do that, but it really really really is acquired skills, the mental game, and endless practice that makes these men and women great at what they do. Loved this series.

Yes a dutch skater completed in both short track and long track. Yes both skating, but because both require different technic to compete at a high level. It is highly oncommen for a skater to do both. Jorien ter Mors however got a gold in one and a brons in the other.

I used to ice skate a lot when I was a kid and was OK as a recreational skater. I remember skating backwards one day and I hit a hole in the ice and fell backwards and landed on my coccyx. I couldn't walk properly for a couple of weeks. It was so painful. I was so tense watching this, hoping you were all going to be OK. Now it's over, I feel like I need a rest. 😉

Esther Ledecky. Two sports in the same games and she won gold in both. Snowboarding and Super G Alpine skiing. Plenty of winter and summer athletes.

It really bums me out that I was so poor growing up, sport or hobby was never and option and here in America, even if it had been my birth giver was too proud to have let us accept it. I can't engage in ANY sport, even at a recreational level bc they are so foreign to my body. I earned a ballet scholarship of sorts, and after I ruined my back, I couldn't even try new things for so long that my ankles degraded, Uggghhhhhhhh, I watch you guys and wish so bad to be capable. Depression is sinking in.
