Good Morning Chris from here in Northern New Hampshire. We have got a lot of snow early this year and lots more coming. As of today we have around 18” on the ground. I stopped cutting for the winter as this is when I take my break. I’m a 67 year old women that enjoys cutting splitting and moving my own firewood. The older I get the more cautious. I am especially when we have snow on the ground and it gets slippery and you’re trying to run a chainsaw. God bless you and your family and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 🎄☃️❄️🌨️🥶🦌🙏
Chris, there's two guys this old firewooder loves to see working out a pile of logs, that's you and Buckin Billy Ray. An awesome pairing for sure! He by the way would call your "pulling chain" a hungry chain. He also sharpens for felling. Bloody hell maybe thats why I just plug away all day and get it done but slower. You sure can work a heap of logs! Cheers from HB NZ
You know I'll be back good day cutting wood getting ready looks dry hope just split and can sell thanks for lesson on saw sharpening very through as usual thanks again Chris be looking for one i haven't seen yet my friend
I noticed in other videos that Bert has what looks like woodcutting racks, where you can place the logs off the ground and cut with less bending over. Any thoughts of loading those with the tractor and cutting several loga at a time?
You did a lot of cutting but I was waiting to see if you were going to get hurt cutting that stack by standing on those loose logs. Please take it easy as we would like to see more of you next year selling and cutting. Merry Christmas.
Hi Chris. Great work on that big log pile. I have a question. I have oak that is split and stacked for the past 3 summers. It is dry enough to burn but I did not get it covered this fall and it has been rained on for the past month. It is moist on the surface, but dry inside. Would you think it is okay to burn for heating this winter or would I be risking creosote buildup in the chimney?
2 years on almost any size split piece or round and it should be good to go! Get yourself a moisture meter ....split a piece and check it inside...if it is below 20% ...go for it!
G’morning Chris. What a macabre scene ! Awesome work. One question,, why cut them short before you load into the processor, one by one, while pinched in the grapple one by one? Seems like there are quicker ways…. GoodNightIrene
Nice . Me and my Wife picked up a truck and trailer load of un cut free wood yesterday . Did you make that saw holder ? I use my bench vise to hold the saw when home !!
I’ve been cutting the last three or four days with a 592 with a 3 foot bar and that is a beast like you said it will tear through anything and doesn’t care
For wood like that in the next load of dry logs, would you process/cut/split to order or process and into the bins? Am assuming that would depend on how many orders for oak you have to fill.
Hi Chris, how do you know where you started if it isn't a double tooth chain? I started using a dremel after watching you and I like it but sometimes I have a chain without a double tooth and no marker handy. Do you count the teeth?
I use a marker most of the time (sharpie) or you can mark a tooth on the top with a scratch with the grinder or you can count or or can just see when you reach the shiny teeth.
It would be great to cut like that once in a while. All my wood is downed trees in the woods, usually on a hillside and my only equipment besides my saws is a John Deere Gator. I have a Timberwolf TW-1 splitter with a 4 way. I am having a lot of trouble working on hillsides now. I wish I had a way to pull the logs to a flat spot.
If you were cutting upto 10 coords a year and some felling which 3* or 5* saw would you pick if you could only have one? The 72 or the lighter 62?? Is there a huge difference in fuel efficiency
Owe you a big one for suggestion for the Protos helmet; great tool. BUTT no going out to eat for awhile. My suggestion for chain sharpening: PFERD ( used by Stihl 2in1 ). Does both edge AND raker with each pass....and no power. Bill is in the mail, or paid when the locust is delivered to MaIne. 😁😁😁
PFERD(Stihl 2in1) does an ok job of getting the chain close to factory spec, downside is many prefer taking the rakers down one file swipe even on a brand-new chain before making the first cut. Dry wood wet wood, hardwood vs soft wood frozen wood are all variables that can have an effect on individual preferred raker height.
@@iffykidmn8170 Have used the PFERD tools for 3 of my saws with different chains for a few years. It does the job excellently both in house and in the field with no need for power or any setup time. Rakers have been set fine.
@@InTheWoodyardI finally cut up an ash tree that fell down. That is a good work out. With my 036 stihl pro. I've had it 20 years and it still runs good.
Hey Chris, are you a semi-chisel guy or full chisel. I like semi for dry dirty wood and like to hand file, hah. I just take multiple chains out in the woods. Last I like Mystic bar oil to.
Chris how accurate is you measurements of firewood pieces? Are they right at 16 inches or do they come out a little longer or a little short? I have tried many different was to cut 16 inch firewood and so far I've only found measuring with a tape and marking to work best. Kind of a dumb question but had to ask. Thank you.
Chris uses zip ties that are wrapped around the saw handle. You should look up Acu-mark or Perfect stick. Those would be faster than what you are currently doing.
I only need one saw an about eight batteries. However my pile is not nearly that big. If it was I guess I would need a really long extension cord and more batteries ✌️
@InTheWoodyard I'm already on the Makita tool platform so I have a plethora of batteries regardless even a cordless coffee maker for those crispy mornings ✌️
hey man, just a suggestion... make yourself a template with all you're links, all the gear you wear/use... your site links etc... like that clamp 😑 and copy paste it in your description when you post videos... make it easier for us lazy ppl to find your stuff!!! :)
Mainly has to do with the ability to apply more pressure weight to the powerhead in a similar fashion it is easier to cut with the bottom of the bar vs top of bar which is pushing the saw away from the wood.
If you like Mystik bar oil Walmart generally carries it as well, TSC carries a house brand which is pretty good(better IMHO) and goes on sale a few times per year at less than $6 per gallon.😉 I bought 10 cases at $4.99gal which I thought a bargain wish they had more.😂

I’m of the same mind, but I do like to get my blocking done in the winter.
Just rest up for spring and then get back to it! Have a great Christmas!
Stay safe we burn wood turned 65 this fall so I don’t do any wood work once it snows

I like these last couple of cutting videos. Reminds me of the videos I started watching of yours a few years ago at the old wood yard.
Great video Chris! Look forward to seeing your video every day.

I am always in dirty wood too sometimes i see it sometimes i find it in the middle of a cut.

Actually I can’t make my mind up on adding a 562 or 572 when 592 is just a bit much or I’m fatigued
Get a 572 ....best all around saw for getting work done!
Great job Chris!!!!!
