Robert Lythgoe The fifht Doctor's Theme musically it is the most complex and richer topic. El tema del quinto Doctor es musicalmente es el tema más complejo y rico.
It's weird, I'm 13 and have been growing up with the new series but this version of the theme and Peter Davison's Doctor will always be what defines Doctor Who for me.
Mostly I'm happy with the new Doctor Who themes, but what I really miss is 1:57 - 2:08. That chord progression just kills me every time I hear it. It's fantastic.
The key change you refer to is the only bit added by Peter Howells who arranged this version. Apart from the explosion at the end which was to stop continuity talking over the credits...
***** I don't think that is what he was implying. I think he was relating the fact that this is his personal favourite theme, as Tom Baker is his personal favourite Doctor. Not that this is Tom Baker's theme.
I love this version, especially the explosion at the end. It reminds me of my mum making me have a bath after Dr Who finished when I was a horrible little child.
This was my first, and still is my favorite version. I started watching in 1982..."Four to Doomsday." As far as the incidental music, the best themes from that era are from The Leisure Hive when Romana has to go to the lab to turn on the recorder, and from Meglos, when his control room rises out of the sand for the first time in 1000 years.
I agree. Actually it's the fact that Doctor Who CAN change and evolve from Doctor to Doctor is what keeps things interesting and really gives it the staying power it has. Now I love Star Trek, but in all honesty there isn't much difference between one Star Trek series and the next. With Doctor Who? ANYTHING can happen and that's why it's become the best and longest running sci-fi series out there!!
Ikr? The series has always been “whatever happens and whatever or anything works and does stuff” so its really fun to write and watch Plus the Doctors regenerations means he gets to keep with the times but still continue to be the same old wise doctor on the inside
I look forward to this every Doctor who episode, the theme explains like everything, the mystery, the adventure and the evil things that on the show. Best part of it!
I think this was where the classic Dr Who theme reached perfection. After this it went downhill. The themes to the modern incarnation try too hard, in my opinion, with their grand orchestral arrangements; the beauty was always in the simplicity of these early electronic compositions.
Some Random TH-camr depending on what you want from a doctor who theme, and depending on what you like in general. I like songs depending on how much I head bang or dance to it, or if I get chills, which this does for me
Have never been "into" Dr Who. I remember the 4th Dr re-runs as a kid and the reboot with Chris Eccleston and Billie Piper though tuned out again afer the 1st season. Killer theme though.
This is my favorite of the classic series. I'm not going to bother comparing the classic series themes to the new series themes. I absolutely love the new series themes, but they're so different that "apples to oranges" doesn't apply. Oranges are better than apples. It's more like comparing the color purple to the existence of Russia.
Ahhh... reminds me of how I got into Who. My late uncle brought home a two-tape set with The Visitation and Black Orchid and invited me to sit and watch. By the time the Pudding Lane sign was engulfed in flames, I was hooked.
'Dalek'. 30th April 2005. I was 12 years old and Doctor Who had been back for about a month by then, but I'd always missed it because I was busy on Saturday nights, our VHS recorder had broken and there wasn't any iPlayer in those days (plus Sky+ was insanely expensive). But by chance, I was in on the night that 'Dalek' was broadcast (I think our youth club was cancelled through illness or something), I watched it out of curiosity and I was hooked. 8 and a bit years later here I am!
Such good synth in this. Grew up watching Tom Baker and Peter Davison, and this is the Dr who Theme for me... the others are good too, even Collin Bakers which I think suits his regeneration well, but this one is the one for me.
This is "my" Dr. Who theme. The one I remember most. I heard the one immediately preceding it as well, but this one stuck with me more as a child. I enjoy virtually all the themese to one degree or another, but this one... This one will always be my favorite.
Besides the original Derbyshire theme, this is easily my favorite version of the DW theme. 1:28 to 1:32 makes the hairs on the neck stand on end every time...
The soundtrack inspired the Pink Floyd's "One of these days" song. They tested an innovative italian retard machine on the Dr. Who movie soundtrack, a very appreciated movie by the whole band. At minute 3:32 they decided to keep a piece of the intro in their masterpiece. However, one of these days was similar to the Dr. Who soundtrack. P.S. I'm italian and I'm fan of the british music, theatre, culture and TV, I love you guys ❤❤❤ and I think that Pink Floyd to be the natural transformation of classic music in modern one. Pink Floyd are like god, for me: untouchable. A big hug from Italy.
You cant beat this version in my opinion. That epic build up near the end and the fact that it ends on a freakin' explosion sound cements this as the best rendition.
@silverspoons96 I heard one of these tunes years ago when I were little but on a proper system, set up properly for as perfect playback as possible and it was so dam expressive that my stomach was churning. Thrilling wasn't the word, it was beyond words. You didn't just hear it, you felt every emotion. Its not just hearing the sound, it gave me feeling. Unbelievable.
This and the Derbyshire version are constantly vying for my favourite version of the theme. Fantastic re-arrangement by Howall. I have it as a ringtone! :D
For me it's 1963:9/10 1967:10/10 1970:7/10 1980:8/10 1986:8.5/10 1987:8.5/10 1996:9/10 2005:7/10 2007:7/10 2008:7/10 2010:7.5/10 2012:7.5/10 2014:8/10 But hey it's just my silly opinion
Your right we do have personal opinions, and in my opinion since Moffat took over the show, there have been few episodes that I have wanted to watch again. For Whovians who know the classic series, when you want to watch Time-Flight over most episodes of Series 6 of the new series then you know something's not right!
The bang at the end was Peter Howells' way to stop the announcer coming in before the credits were over.
That’s his warning shot! 💥‼️
I didn't know that
Why this ever changed from this version is beyond me. It reached perfection during this time.
Ikr
This one SOOO damn good although gotta admit the season 23 one was pretty good too
Ladies and gentlemen, please stand for the British national anthem.
Jon Doe If I was the Prime Minister of Britain, I would MAKE SURE that this Doctor who theme WAS the National Anthem!
When the Whovian uprising happens we will have this as our anthem.
Makes sense. Canada has the HNIC theme and the U.S. Has "America Fuck Yeah".
Jon Doe Hell yes!!
Reese's Puffs [Eat Em Up] yep 👍🏻😂
This is the best Doctor Who theme. Easily.
Robert Lythgoe I like it, but the best is the 2005 theme, by Murray Gold, to me!
Robert Lythgoe The fifht Doctor's Theme musically it is the most complex and richer topic. El tema del quinto Doctor es musicalmente es el tema más complejo y rico.
2008 theme is... Is... LIFE
+Robert Lythgoe Worst you mean?
+TBS Studios
2008 does absolutely nothing for me.
This one... It's very 80's but I love that.
And 00:34-00:50 is simply bliss for me.
Welcome to the 80's! Prepare to be synthesized to oblivion!
TheBladeofIce _good thing this is a show about _*_time travelers_*
They already synthesising in the 60s.
@@IcySlavKat - Oh cool, but I meant like using tone generators, tape delays and white/pink delays and mad old spring reverbs, things like that. 👍
That comment made lol. 😂😂
Many people consider this the best of the Doctor Who themes.
It is one of the best, sure
LegoDude2011 And one of the most overrated, but it's still one of my favourites too.
It's just sooooo good. I find this song timeless, while the 7th doctor's theme... too 80s.
+pytko3 this is the worst theme.
dalek caan No, the 10th Doctor's theme was the worst.
0:08
Not even much of a Dr. Who fan, but this gives me eargasms. :D
That’s so true
how can you not be a doctor who fan?!
It's weird, I'm 13 and have been growing up with the new series but this version of the theme and Peter Davison's Doctor will always be what defines Doctor Who for me.
Is it still your favourite now you’re 22?
23 now big guy
big 23 now
big guy 23 big
now big 23 guy
One of the best theme tunes in television history.
This is my favorite just because of the guitar rifts.
They're not guitar riffs... All elements were purely synthesised.
yeah.. i know.. found out after making the comment, but they sound a lot like guitar rifts to me.
i dont care what it is it sounds the best out of all
I thought they were guitar riffs! I'm glad I know now!
The Goof actually what sound like guitar rifts is actually someone's voice syntesized
The best Doctor Who theme ever!
Yes!
my favorite theme of doctor who
Same here. Guitar riff is simple but killer. This extended version is nice.
Dr. Zippy Mcscoots it's a keyboard
This and the 1986 theme are the best
I like the 1980 and 2005 versions
I love this one. I feels like you're falling through space and time without anything to catch you... Beautiful.
Mostly I'm happy with the new Doctor Who themes, but what I really miss is 1:57 - 2:08. That chord progression just kills me every time I hear it. It's fantastic.
1:57 - 2:08
For a theme from 1980 is actually pretty modern it's like they created it only a few years ago.
Scarlett Pheonix You can hear the 80's creep in from 1:57, but for the most part it still could work as a modern theme.
The key change you refer to is the only bit added by Peter Howells who arranged this version. Apart from the explosion at the end which was to stop continuity talking over the credits...
Stephen Allcroft How is the key change the only difference?
No its pretty 80s.. nothing modern about it.. making it amazin in itself
But at the same time it still screams 80s.
Jesus Christ! When people say the best music was before the 90's, that even includes Doctor Who. This one is easily in the top three for me.
My second-favorite Doctor Who theme tune, with the first being the original 1963 theme.
This will always be THE Doctor Who theme just as Tom Baker will always be to me THE Doctor.
This theme was used for only one of Tom Baker's seven seasons. If anything, this is Peter Davison's theme.
***** It was also Colin Bakers theme until Trial of a Timelord in 1986
Yes, but it was Peter Davison's only theme music.
***** I don't think that is what he was implying. I think he was relating the fact that this is his personal favourite theme, as Tom Baker is his personal favourite Doctor. Not that this is Tom Baker's theme.
C.J Lightfoot Pretty much ya XD Though when I think of the 4th, I think this theme.
I love this version, especially the explosion at the end. It reminds me of my mum making me have a bath after Dr Who finished when I was a horrible little child.
This was my first, and still is my favorite version. I started watching in 1982..."Four to Doomsday."

this is my favourite! As a kid I was obsessed with it..so ahead of its time!
I agree. Actually it's the fact that Doctor Who CAN change and evolve from Doctor to Doctor is what keeps things interesting and really gives it the staying power it has. Now I love Star Trek, but in all honesty there isn't much difference between one Star Trek series and the next. With Doctor Who? I was afraid of 3 things as a child. Smoke alarms, those door stop springs, and this theme song. This is the only one I'm still afraid of.
This one? I would’ve guessed the 1986 theme but this one?
@@whovianmaverick6348 How is the 1986 theme scary?
it definitly has that 80's vibe haha
This is my favorite version of the theme.
I look forward to this every Doctor who episode, the theme explains like everything, the mystery, the adventure and the evil things that on the show. Best part of it!
Every time I hear the explosion at the end I keep thinking the Red Dwarf theme is going to kick in...
That's because it's so cold outside.
+Anthony Fordham No kind of atmosphere
I'm all alone
More or less.
im still here in the shadows ...
So good that it gave me the chills!!!!!!
I think this was where the classic Dr Who theme reached perfection. After this it went downhill. The themes to the modern incarnation try too hard, in my opinion, with their grand orchestral arrangements; the beauty was always in the simplicity of these early electronic compositions.
This sends shivers down my spine
Same here, my fave theme
Remember watching Dr. Who on PBS Saturday nights as a kid in the 1980s and hearing this theme at the beginning & end! Love it!
Got the best middle 8, that's for sure :D
Everyone keeps mentioning this "middle 8" what is that?
Niceguy3210 repeat of the same thing in music to extend theme
brick brainiac I was told by someone last week that it's actually the sort of fanfare in the middle of the song.
oh
brick brainiac You'll find the first instance at 1:02

No, I agree with ya.
So do I
All of the theme are cool
Everyone has opinions for a reason man, dunno what my fav is, but either 6th or 7th
If you had to choose a palette of sounds, like an artist chooses colour, this, without fucking doubt, wins above all else x
Cheers for ALL the Doctors and their theme tunes!
The 1963 theme is unbeatable but this definitely ranks number 2
Some Random TH-camr depending on what you want from a doctor who theme, and depending on what you like in general. I like songs depending on how much I head bang or dance to it, or if I get chills, which this does for me
The best iteration of the Doctor Who theme ever! Hands down perfection.
Holy crap! I thought I loved this theme before, but once I first heard that middle 8... Instantly fell in love over again
Thanks for posting this. I bought this song on a 45 as a kid (and still have it somewhere). It's great to be able to listen to it again.
Doctor Who meets 80s. Love it
How can you not love this?
So many memories of the doctor who DVD menus from this.
Have never been "into" Dr Who. I remember the 4th Dr re-runs as a kid and the reboot with Chris Eccleston and Billie Piper though tuned out again afer the 1st season.
Killer theme though.
THE BEST OF ALL THEMS

Use to watch this on PBS on the weekends before bedtime back in grade school. For some reason, this theme made for nice bedtime music.
The ultimate theme from my childhood, and from this on I've always loved trance...
Love it always...
My favourite version of the theme. Creepy, and yet really epic!
Of all the classic versions, this is my favourite since when I was younger I had "The Five Doctors" on DVD. Of the modern versions, 2005 easily.
It was the one of the best reboots! I remember the first time I heard it, my mind was blown.
This is my favorite DW theme
Ahhh... reminds me of how I got into Who. My late uncle brought home a two-tape set with The Visitation and Black Orchid and invited me to sit and watch. By the time the Pudding Lane sign was engulfed in flames, I was hooked.
Tied for my favourite theme, right with Murray Gold's 2007-10 theme
Brings me back to my childhood absolutely fantastic 😊

this is my favorite dr who theme. this key works so well
Awesome tune I used to watch the original series as a kid back in the 80s ..
Must have been such a drastic change for long time fans that got to see this theme play for the first time in 1980.
I remember hearing this song when I was in kindergarten, and being so fascinated.
My absolute favourite version.
Oh I just love this! I miss watching Doctor who
Just started watching Old Doctor so Much Better really liking John Pertwee going to buy more dvds soon
I'm fairly certain this is my favorite version of the theme.
Such good synth in this. Grew up watching Tom Baker and Peter Davison, and this is the Dr who Theme for me... the others are good too, even Collin Bakers which I think suits his regeneration well, but this one is the one for me.

This one is still the best of all of them. More people like this one on voting record.
Besides the original Derbyshire theme, this is easily my favorite version of the DW theme. 1:28 to 1:32 makes the hairs on the neck stand on end every time...
Best theme by far :)
my fave version by far. brings back memories. Also love the tripods music they did which was amazing
Great version and fantastic job by music arranger & producer Peter Howell. Reminds me of Giorgio Moroder.

This is one ofthe coolest doctor who themes around. Let's hear it for the Electric 80's!
This is the song that defined the eighties as a whole.
This theme defined me ages 8 to 11, then I got to meet the man himself on the Doctor Who tour in 1983!
I saw him amongst a crowd of people in Adelaide in 1983 but my Dad was in too much of a hurry so didn't get an autograph. At least I saw him.
You cant beat this version in my opinion. That epic build up near the end and the fact that it ends on a freakin' explosion sound cements this as the best rendition.
This is one of my favourite dr who themes.
this sounds the most jazzy and futuristic of any of the old ones... this is the second best...
series 6
series 5
this theme
series 7
So jaunty and fun! A great theme!
Seems very magical
My favorite Doctor Who theme. Jon Pertwee's/Tom Baker's one was also a good one, but this has the 80's touch in it. Love it!
My favourite version, a 1980s new wave/synth pop sound to it.
What do you call the part near the end where it has all the chords going up after the middle 8? That's the best part!
I love that bit at 1:26 - 1:32 and 1:47 - 1:57, its brilliant, they should put that back in the current theme!
Used by my favorite doctor and the galaxy's best cricket player.
Three doctors had this theme
@silverspoons96 I heard one of these tunes years ago when I were little but on a proper system, set up properly for as perfect playback as possible and it was so dam expressive that my stomach was churning. Thrilling wasn't the word, it was beyond words. You didn't just hear it, you felt every emotion. Its not just hearing the sound, it gave me feeling. Unbelievable.
This and the Derbyshire version are constantly vying for my favourite version of the theme. Fantastic re-arrangement by Howall. I have it as a ringtone! :D
This was one of the best Signature Tune renditions after the Classic 1973-1980 version..
Thanx, m8..
My top 5 Doctors:

The 5th Doctor's theme
Peter Howell was at thier derby gig in April. Magnificent.
I love this version

For Whovians who know the classic series, when you want to watch Time-Flight over most episodes of Series 6 of the new series then you know something's not right!
