    A good review of what looks like a very nice bike. Glad to see Lexmoto branching out and bringing bigger bikes to the market. As an older first I totally get this bike. Power isn't the be all and end all of riding and enjoying motor bikes.

    I'm impressed! As far as I know, that's Lexmoto's first 250, first twin, first front and rear ABS brakes and it's stylish too! oh, and first stone operated horn...

    I wouldn't want to tour on one of these, but other than that a great little daily runaround. It's got character rather than being a stunner to look at. Well done Lexmoto.

    "Judge a motorcycle by what it is and not what it isn't!" - may I kindly ask your allowance to reuse this quote whenever applicable? It's the best approach to bikes I've ever came across! The bike looks great and sounds good and I'd really have considered it when I was in the market ending up with my RE Hima. Stay safe

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Haha sure, its always been my approach. People get so lost in the here say of bikes and what people say rather than getting out riding it to draw their own conclusion.

    Most ppl are perfectly happy not going much over sixty but what pees you off on a 125 is feeling that you're constantly thrashing it. There's where soft-tuned 250s are so good. They're not mega fast but will maintain normal road speeds without wringing its neck.
    When you talk about "the older rider" you mean people who had 750s, 900s, 1000s. Done it. Been there. They want reconnect with the basic, primal fun of a motorbike.
    As a 56 year old with 34 years of riding behind me, this bike def appeals to me.

    • @MyMednas
      @MyMednas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people are happy not going much over 60mph? Seriously? So a bike you can't take on a dual carriageway or motorway? Can't overtake on an A or B road?
      I've got a 150 with about 12hp for green laning, but I'd never take it far on the road!

    This is an Italjet Buccaneer 250i in most of the world. In the USA it's an SSR. I've got over 10,000 miles on mine so far! The bike runs lots better after 3500 miles or so, and the throttle response smooths out greatly.

    • @lisacolbert5987
      @lisacolbert5987 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean one can purchase one if they live in the USA ?? I just do a search with SSR + motorcycle ? I’ve got money waiting to be spent on one of these Chinese retros but several of the bikes I’ve gotten all twitterpated about , after viewing a few videos about it ,,, come to find out it’s impossible to get my hands one. Even if I had an extra 500$ for shipping. Please , tell me it’s so ! Thanks .

    • @lisacolbert5987
      @lisacolbert5987 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is this bike available in the U.S. under a different name? If anyone knows , thanks in advance! I’ve looked at SO many of these Chinese retro-looking bike videos , wanted one , cash-in-hand , only to find out I can’t get my Yank hands on one… These 125-250cc , Cafe Racer styled Chinese bikes would sell like mad over here (I believe). There’s one dealer in Seattle carrying one of these but I’m not in love with it , and one far south of me in California - too far to travel for a test ride. Anyone ? Thanks again!

    520 chain conversion: 2017 Yamaha XV250 front sprocket and a JTR-273.45 rear sprocket. I like the 15/45 combo for stock wheels. It saves over 6 pounds of unsprung weight (with an o-ring chain) and lowers the gearing, giving more torque for holding speed on the motorway.

    Had a sneaky once over of a Lexmoto I saw parked in a car park once. A 125 naked style thing. I admit to my shame, I was a bit snobby about it but after looking at it I was really impressed how it was put together. Funny how you mentioned the welding because that’s what I thought as well. “Really clean.” And the whole thing caught my eye in first place so that can only be a good thing.

    Hi Spicy, totally agree with your comments, I've had my Vendetta for 650 odd miles now.
    I live in Jersey, plenty of hills.
    Like you, this is my go to bike, it just handles so well.
    When my fuel gauge starts flip flopping I top the tank up (about a gallon).
    For the price, I cannot fault it at all. It is just so comfortable and well balanced, and it's definitely one I'll be keeping for as long as I can ride.

      It's got that blend of fun small cc but with the grunt ever one with a 125cc wants, sounds perfect for the area. If you ever try it with proper road tyres I would love to hear how you find it. 👍🙂

      I am currently building my long nose Yamaha xvs 250 cafe racer/ 1930's style land speed record bike, a kind of what if Malcolm Campbell did an LSR bike, what would it have looked like. I am running Pirelli City Demons on it, and am considering these for the Vendetta, unless you have any better suggestions.
      Although I'm 65 now, I do appreciate your experience and wisdom, so I am open to any suggestions.

      Dave Cletheroe, I will check tomorrow.
      Thanks for posting this info.
      I have noticed a few area's where the paint is thin in places, which I'm not too worried about, considering it's half the price of a new Yamaha xv 250, it's a small price to pay.
      I have replaced the Battery with a Yuasa (£35), due to the original not holding charge longer than a week, now fires up after standing for a month.
      I do get an annoying rattle from under the tank at certain revs, which I've yet to investigate, but, other than that, the bike has so far, been running OK.
      Kind Regards
      Nigel

    Reminds me of the old Morini 3 1/2, which is a big compliment but the Morini was a more useable 350cc. Not sure there's much of a market for a 250 road bike in Blighty? I wish them well though.

    I'm probably amongst the target market being an old buffer! Been forced onto scooters for the last few years, due to health issues, (better than nowt) quite fancy this but I'm a bit fearful on overtakes because this flippin rev limiter comes in just too much for my liking. Also these tyres, OK the bike isn't dear at about £3k otr, then factor in a pair of decent tyres, starts me thinking a bit more about the Benelli Imperiale 400.
    By the way I'd like to see you get your grubby mits on the new Lexmoto Pegasus 300 maxi as soon as, on paper looks good value.

    I watched all four of your videos on the Vendetta several times and then just went ahead and ordered one. Had it a week and just about to have the first 300 mile service, cracking bike and just as you described it. My only niggle is that it's tricky to slip into neutral and impossible from 1st if stationery but maybe it'll ease with a bit of time. I used to ride bigger bikes Honda Deauville and such but got a bit heavy for my advancing years so like the chap below I bought a Lexmoto scooter, good fun in town but couldn't enjoy it otherwise so this 250 Vendetta gets me back into the biker nod fraternity. :-) Thanks for your reviews.

    Great review, as ever, with lots of genuine observations. These do seem good value, but I still don't quite understand the choice of this engine, as opposed to something like the old Suzuki derived single that's powered the Pulse 250, Sinnis Retrostar, Herald 250, Mutts and so on. That seems to give a bit more poke, and is not expensive either, plus does sound good in some of the Heralds and Mutts. I do agree with lots of the others, that its not always about speed, (I've had large Japanese bikes too, but a BSA Bantam is just as fun).

    I ride a Harley and get it all about ''A 1200 that will only do 120 mph''so I understand what your saying .if someone want's to go fast this isn't the bike for them .But as the saying go's ''there's fast riders and there's old riders but there's no fast old riders ''Most younger riders are obsesed by power and speed but never concider the quality of the ride . maybe when your 16,17,18 years old you can ride a 125 2 stroker 250 miles a day but that wont be something a 75 year old can do .unless you own a so called under powered Harley .

      I think i still qualify as a young person (22) well even a couple of years ago when I got my first bike and was still a young person I wasn't interested in top speed that little bike only did about 60 (on the dial) top whack, that's down hill wind behind you and a dog chasing ya, I made up a wider padded seat and went everywhere at a stately 50mph wouldn't have minded a bit more power for uphill sections and face wind and I think a 250-400 single would be fine, the lexy vendetta is in the running as my new bike along side the mutt 250. Can't lie though there are definitely times when I think really putting the hammer down on a 600 would be rather fun however that thought is quickly taken out of my mind when I remember how uncomfortable sports bikes are.

    • @hiyadroogs
      @hiyadroogs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @shaggy Good for you, Shaggy. It takes real character not to be led astray, or pushed around by others. The higher the overall average speed, the disproportionately harder you have to push the engine & ride like a lunatic to attain it. I've seen bike magazine economy tests conducted over a set 70 mile route covering all road conditions. All bikes are kept within speed limits. From the most powerful sports bikes down to the 125's, no bike has yet bettered 48 mph overall average speed, even though the route includes motorway. If you rag a bike & are therefore forced to stop to refuel on route, you will destroy the average speed your thrashing has achieved while in motion. Its diminishing returns. On a side note, I have an Enfield bullet fitted with an 8.5 bhp diesel engine. Top speed is 52 by GPS, but cruising speed is a gentle 40 mph. I head out in the morning, ride around the B roads & tucked away villages all day long, returning in the early evening with another 200 miles on the clock, having had another blissful dose of freedom & spiritual happiness, with 3 gallons of the 4 gallon tank still remaining. & I sold my Suzuki Hayabusa to get it, & have never regretted it even for a second. I've had it 10 years now. The longest I've ever kept a bike. Speed? Pah! Don't need it.

    It’s amazing how much better Chinese made bikes have got. I have owned 2 Chinese motorcycles, one was absolutely terrible and one was rather good. The good one was basically a copy of an old Honda XL185, and everyone said it would be awful and unreliable, but it was fine. The terrible one was a Jonway 200 twin and I should have known better, but it was an impulse buy and even though the bike was awful the engine was actually very good. Now I’m tempted by this, mostly because I don’t do many miles and I like the idea of buying new rather than a used bike and for the money.

    Just come across your channel. Ive been waiting for someone to review this bike. Very honest interesting and lengthy review. The vendetta looks really good and as an older rider with a full licence I was looking for something cheap enough to keep in the garage and use on a sunny day. Thought this might be the one, but it's just to small in stature and only a little power than some 125s but with around the same performance. Think they've missed a trick really. Have you reviewed the lexmoto tempest 125?

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not that small you must keep in mind I am 6ft 4. However yes if you want noticeably more power than a 125cc I would say look around the 400cc mark. Even the Suzuki 250cc bikes with 24bhp don't pull that hard.

    great vid. I do agree with you that you do not need a ton of power to have fun, I had a 2006 Triumph sprint ST that had 70ish hp and now I have a CBR 600RR that has around 90ish to the wheels. I had no problem going on 500 mile rides on the sprint but after 100 miles on the CBR I want to shoot my self knees are killing me, my back is killing me, my neck is killing and I'm in a ton of pain by time I get back home. and the 2nd thing is gas mileage I got 250 miles to a tank of gas but in the CBR I will be lucky to get 140ish miles to a tank of gas. is that horrible mileage worth the extra 20ish hp I don't think so if I was not having all the problems I was with the Triumph I would have held on to that bike. ADHD version my next bike would be a sport tourer I love the long rides and better gas mileage!

      Your example seems to support the adage that a big engine working easily, is generally more economical than a small engine working hard. I had a Suzuki M90 cruiser with a 1500 V twin. It was only some 80 odd bhp @ 4,800, but was geared at 30 mph per 1,000 because of its 100 mm stroke. Cruising at 70 mph, it would always give 52 mpg tank after tank. The bike weighed over 700 lbs. I thought that was tremendously impressive.

    I think we may see a resurgence of interest in 250cc bikes among urban commuters who want inexpensive transport that can carry a passenger more easily than a 125. Also, sub-400cc bikes are cheaper to tax and insure which could be appealing to younger riders.

    You would not be able to put a carb on this bike. the stator rotor is setup with signal points for the EFI to read, so if you hooked the spark plug up with a CDI unit it would spark at completly the wrong time and just wouldnt work. To make it work you would have to install a modified Stator rotor and have it properly timed with the engine.

    As an actual old bloke (61 1/2), I hope I never reach the stage when I want a new bike like this.
    There are enough older, far more interesting bikes with larger capacities, more power and actual carburettors to choose from.
    I could throw my USA spec VF750F Interceptor, Japanese domestic market 400cc CB-1 into the mix, but both could be considered cheating. So I offer instead my V twin XL125 Varadero instead. It too is underpowered for it’s capacity, but it’s a Honda, and it’s got carbs.
    Not cheating would be my old 1986 CB250 G5 which got destroyed in a smash in ‘79. That would destroy this thing easily.
    But yes, stick carbs on this Lexmoto, reduce the compression ratio and maybe gas flow the heads. Then you’ve only got to loose the awful logo, and you’re good to go.

      As a young 57 3/4 year old, I like it. It looks good and is cheap for a new bike. I'm happy stripping carbs, measuring float heights, setting tappets, flushing tanks, balancing carbs, repairing fork seals etc etc. The 20 year-old's here may not be and a new bike that runs and works and can be sold-on with simple servicing has to be a good thing. Not enough bikers below 50 now, so anything that attracts them is good!

    • @G58
      @G58 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard Wells is that a quote? By whom?
      The reason I ask is because I’m naturally resistant to being told how I should form MY OWN opinions about anything. So even if the quote was by the Lord Jesus H Krist whilst riding his moped backwards through the garden of gethsemane singing Hallelujah, he should mind his own business.
      Why? Because a bike is the sum of its parts. If it has deficient parts or inadequate parts as this one does, and if it had the wrong parts, and if it lacks the power one would expect from a bike of this capacity, then what you’re left with is a heavy peddle cycle - that’s missing its pedals! And therefore that’s all one can judge it by.
      I’m not sure when bikers became so sensitive about their machines that they decided mutual masturbation was preferable to honesty, but it’s rather silly.
      Expressing objections to another guy’s personal opinion, as part of some vicarious affiliation with those who have bought the bike in question, is taking this to a whole other level of silly.
      When I bought my first CB250G5, my Yammy, Suzuki and Kawasaki 2 stroke mates told me I was an idiot for buying a slow, poor handling 4 stroke - because it had too many things to go wrong, and I would get fed up of getting blown off by everything. They were right in some respects. But most of all, they were entitled to their opinions.
      I liked 2 stroke singles, in particular Bultaco trials bikes. But I also liked travelling long distances, so there was no way I wanted to hear a bean can full of angry wasps for four hours.
      So I tuned the Honda by gas flowing the heads, enlarged and polished the exhaust outlets, played with the timing, opened up the air inlet, fitted larger jets and a Harris exhaust system.
      Several of the Kawasaki riders were soon dead, and all the Yammy and Suzuki riders now ride 4 strokes.
      Conclusion: they were still entitled to their opinions, even though they ultimately changed their minds. 😎

    a 250cc "5 valve" Yamaha dirt bike that has had stuff done to it... has 41kW @ 5500rpm... runs out to 12000rpm, gets 45.6mpg idling at 55mph. its hard to reason with people that its not a 16hp 250cc Giovanni. In person I have seen people that can drive a bicycle just fine get on a 5.5hp 66cc and crash into the ditch within seconds... on another note some people think tires are more important then fixing the rear brake that doesn't work and replacing the front pads that are just ready to de-laminate not worth the $35 replacement cost? a 160lb single speed motorbike with 17hp and brakes off a 450lb motorbike is vary good for short commutes and the tall gearing makes it vary manageable. stops on a dime if you use the brakes.
