At Rourke's Drift the 24th Regiment of Foot shot around 600 rounds of .577/450 each in a 10 hour continuous action against the Zulu. Post conflict reports state that the soldiers had excessively swollen shoulders & that towards the end of the action soldiers were no longer holding their Martini-Henrys to the shoulder. I wonder why that was. :-l
