‘97 Jeep TJ 2.5 to VW ALH engine swap *UPDATE*
มุมมอง 2.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Just wanted to share a quick video on how I mounted the engine and the clearances available inside the engine bay for the VW ALH. Hopefully will next couple vids will be posting a video of engine running inside and a quick drive around! Thanks for watching everyone
Volkswagen ALH standalone wiring harness detail for engine swap
มุมมอง 20K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is just meant to serve as a guide, your harness may vary depending on what you want to keep or delete. I hope it helps figuring out what some of the stuff is though and makes your engine conversion a little bit simpler. The fastest way to make this harness is to start de-looming it and just start cutting out the stuff that you don't need and isn't shown in the video. Resources that a...

Volkswagen TDI ALH Stand-alone wiring harness startup
มุมมอง 27K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This engine is going into my 1997 Jeep Wrangler built up the wiring harness to be bare minimum to run the engine. Wiring harness still has: N75 turbo vane actuator Foot pedal Manifold absolute pressure sensor OBD with CAN and K-Line Glow plug harness ( not required but easy to keep in the harness) Engine side harness is untouched (small ECU connector is untouched)

I don't know much about engines but I am looking at putting a 1.9 TDI diesel Jetta engine into a cement saw is there a wiring harness I can buy that will make it run alone?
hi, i have a 1.9 tdi alh engine on my vw bora now, but im thinking to do a swap to 1.9 arl, i suppose that i need to change all the harness right?
I want to put a 1.9 in a Honda Civic, and in my small truck. I'll get around to it one day
What year is your tdi???
Plot twist:Car got decomposed but the engine remained
Nice work..!! what car are the engine mounts?
I’m Thinking about putting a tdi in a skid loader I have
Thanks a lot for the whole series. It will help me a lot during my swap!
At Rourke's Drift the 24th Regiment of Foot shot around 600 rounds of .577/450 each in a 10 hour continuous action against the Zulu. Post conflict reports state that the soldiers had excessively swollen shoulders & that towards the end of the action soldiers were no longer holding their Martini-Henrys to the shoulder. I wonder why that was. :-l
When you got the td conversion plate did you get the ax5 or ax15 version? As the only kits I can find to swap to a ax15 re-use the ax5 bellhousing.
Did you have ecu programed
I need one done
This video is great and I would love to see any progress. I am going to try your engine mount on my tdi wrangler swap. I hear you say euro spec on the mount and wonder if you have a part number as I am trying to find this. Please let me know.
Vertical video syndrome strikes again!
Nice work..!! How did you like the swap? And out of what car are the engine mounts?
Thanks bro
No AC in Arizona??
I don't live in arizona any longer
what pin do you need to activate the starter?
and ecu to like power it like you turn on the ignition?
😞 PЯӨMӨƧM
do you not carry out an electrical installation like this ALH for a fee?
You have no idea how crazy it was driving down the fwy right as that happens, having zero clue that was part of the show. From our angle, my fiancé and kids thought the pilot crashed.
Bro i was literally there. 10/10 tho it was pretty cool
Wondering the count of nitrates and other emissions in that...the WEF hasn't got to it yet ... Slackers 🤷🏼♀️
I’m also in Phoenix, I currently daily a 99 Jetta, with the 6 spd swap (Dutch auto). I’m relatively interested in doing something similar to your jeep swap. Can you do an update video on your jeep?
Do you by any chance know the weight of the engine? i want to swap my jimny but cuz of max axel load i need to calculate it. thx for the video !
If I had to make my best guess, the fully dressed weight including injection pump and accessories would be 350# +- 30 lbs. Sorry its not more accurate. This isn't including radiator or coolant though.
@@FiedtheNeedIT1 Thank you :-)
Just got my ALH swapped in my yj rock crawler. Just curious what all you ended up deleting from the harness and what route you went for tuning the ecm. Thanks
Thanks watching. I posted another video a while back about modifying the full harness. To just what you need. I mailed my ecu into Malone tuning and they turned it around fast for me with exactly what I needed
What exactly did Malone do for you? Build a new harness? Or just tune the ECU for your application? How much did it cost? I’d like to do a tune/EGR delete. Mine is currently throwing the code for the deleted EGR.
@@itskarl79 Hey karl, I sent malone just the ECU for the tune and swap related deletes. If you open a ticket with them, they will be glad to help, I think i paid something like $200 for the tune? You can check my other video to learn about how to modify the wiring harness, I'd be glad to answer any questions there too. I will post an update video in hopefully a few weeks. I had to take a break from the jeep to finish up school.
Well done!
On the T14 connection will you give the numbers for the power and grounds. I don’t have that plug so I will have to splice into the engine harness.
Also do those + and - have to be hooked up to run. I can get the engine to fire. The ecu is coming on and the injectors are getting fuel but all the engine will do is spin over
I found the answer to my question online 5 - 30a fused, 6 - 10a fused, and 9 - is a ground. The engine started right up. Now I have another problem with the TPS not working. Reading online that it could be the brake pin out.
Hi there! Great video, wondering about a few things. When you say something needs 12v power does that mean ignition power or constant 12 v power? Also the lilac yellow wire on the blue connector, do you connect that to ignition power to wake up the ecu if you’re not running the 109 relay? Thanks!
Hey adam, yep i mean constant 12v power. Pretty much the only thing that gets momentary power is the wire connected directly into the starter which fires the starter solenoid. You can run that one through a relay from your ignition. The lilac/yellow wire on the blue connector is hard to figure out honestly. It's something i was planning on running an update on once I get the system more sorted, but I think the lilac/yellow wire is the one that actually powers the relay... so once igition is swithed and the ECU gets power, the Lilac/yellow starts running high 12v supplied from the ECU. The one that i DID glance over in the video is that the dark purple wire on the T14 connector needs 12 supplied to it to wake up all the engine sensors in addition to the yellow/black wire. Hope that helps!
@@FiedtheNeedIT1 I see! Yeah that’s great! So the dark purple wire on the T14 is switched power?
I'm interested in this can you make me a harness for my tracker swap I'll cover material and what not
What was required to connect the 231 transfer case to the AX15?
I had to modify the transfer case input gear only. NP231 that comes with the AX5 has a 21 spline input gear, but the NP231 that comes with the AX15 has a 23 spine input gear. You can either get a new transfer case, or do what I did and just swap the input gear over. It's usually a $40-$80 part. That is all that is *required* to the np231 to get it to swap over. Personally I also upgraded the NP231 with a wider chain as well, and also a slip yoke eliminator since everything was disassembled.
will this work on a pd130?
I'm not familiar with that engine, but from the name PD it's likely a pump duse VW engine which does not use the same bosch VP37 injection pump, but instead uses a different fuel injection pump. So no, I'm guessing this specific guide will not help you.
Hi, thanks for the video, What year is the TDI engine?
Bennett, the ALH engine code came in the Volkswagen Golf, Jetta, and New Beetle, and a few other things from 1999.5 to 2003. Basically the MK4 body styles. This video applies to the engines which have the bosch VP37 injection pump.
My 2003 beetle harness is little different, maf sensor has additional plug and is on the main body harness thats not pluged into ecu dirrectly.
Subscribed! That sounds SO good!
Did you decode computer box?
Where did you get the flywheel and transmission adapter plate from?
Hi Bobby, The adapter is from a company called TD Conversions. There are also adapters available from a company called Cotybuilt. I'm not sure if there is any distinct advantages to one or the other. They both include the adapters that allow you go from the 1.9 TDI bolt pattern to the jeep AX-15 bolt pattern (and a few other chrysler/jeep transmissions). Both kits also include the crankshaft -> flywheel adapter which allows you to run the standard jeep 4.0 flywheel and clutch kit. In my case, I went with a high inertia jeep 4.0 flywheel from Centerforce, and a luk clutch kit.
A few quick questions if you don’t mind, do you have any kind of suspension lift as well? And what made you go with the front engine mount over the side mounts? And how close does the front pumpkin come to the PS pump with the drivers front tire at full flex?
Hey Adam, a couple reasons: there is a ton of room in the front and I made the entire front cossmember in 3 pieces so I could change and modify it as I wished. I wanted to kind of mimic the cotybuilt mounting truss but in an economical way. If I had gone to the side mounts, the fab work would have been a bit more difficult to get right the first time in my opinion I just didn’t want to deal with that. I know many other swaps have done that though. I do have an OME 2.5 inch suspension lift, it looks like there is at least 7 inches of upward clearance but I’m not going to be flexing anything out yet until it’s finished. Worst case I’ll have to put in some adjustable bump stops.
@@FiedtheNeedIT1 everything that you said makes a lot of sense! It sure looks good! I’m looking forward to seeing the coming progress.
This is awesome! Any chance you have a wiring diagram ?
I just used the Haynes manual which had a general wiring diagram, however I found it was just easier to trace back the components that I knew I needed to keep rather than tracking down individual wires
What is this swap going into?
Hey Adam! I'm throwing this into my '97 TJ Wrangler but my goal was to show how the harness could be trimmed universally and be used in whatever. Hopefully should have my full swap done in a few months.
@@FiedtheNeedIT1 wow! That’s awesome I’m actually doing the exact same swap with a 97 Tj and ALH. Very good video thanks so much! 👏🙏🏻
@@adamsytsma5112 awesome, good luck with your build and let me know if I can help at all
Thanks I will!
You have time to make another? I'm on the fence of TDI or MTDI alh for this very reason in the wiring.
Super cool! What is this being swapped into?
thanks for the martini porn
This is all you needed to run the engine. How did power the padel
Sorry if it wasn't clear, the pedal is powered directly from the ECU which is in turn powered by the battery, I'll be uploading another video covering how this wiring harness was made, and what to keep and delete in a few days.
@@FiedtheNeedIT1 that would be much helpful im about to start on my swap and im needing help on wats the bare minimum that i need to run the engine all i want to keep is the ac and that’s it
