Nah but this seems kinda weird. If the conversation that sparked it all was about who’s the best rapper, they didn’t have to drop disses like this. Whole beef, at least between these two songs, seems like Royce is aiming at being the best and Lupe’s aiming at Royce. I think Royce is absolutely capable of dropping a monstrous diss track, but he didn’t do that here for whatever reason. Lupe punished him here, but i think the situation changes if Royce is coming with a straight diss and not a technical display. Royce 100% more technical with his track, Lupe 100% better with the beef on his. Super weird situation.
So from my perspective Lupe been pushing this EOW as a way to determine who is the objectively, not subjectively, best. Royce seemed unwilling to listen to reason as his logic was "if I never heard of you how can you be the best" which is the most ignorant perspective to have. You can't know everybody so that doesn't invalidate actual skill. It kept going like that for a bit until Royce said a few things disrespectful and then when Lu finally had enough he was going off and Royce kept telling him to put a shirt on. He tried to cut Lu off saying "you better stop yourself before you say something you regret" in a way that I believe Lu interpreted as you'll regret because I'll make you regret it" so then they got into an argument about who called Lu which doesn't make sense and then "disses" started.

If I were you, I would skip "drogas light" the album. Thats when his label was forcing him to be a mumble rapper. But everything else is fire!.. Ernest has a series here mainly about lupe
Lupe Fiasco’s freshman and sophomore albums “Food & Liquor” and “The Cool” are in my weekly rotation. In terms of being a creative fucking genius, Lupe has that in spades. Some of my favorite songs are ‘Kick, Push’ ‘The Cool’ and ‘Hurt Me Soul’ off of Food & Liquor. Off of The Cool I really like ‘Bitch Bad’, ‘The Coolest’, ‘Go Go Gadget Flow’, ‘Little Weapon’, and ‘Hip-Hop Just Saved My Life’.
In all honesty, i love Royce, but i couldnt even make it past the first quarter of the song lmao The flow was so mono. It sounds as if he had this song prewritten already for a radio show freestyle, and just decided to add a couple extra lines to it thinking it would make it sound more "diss" like😂 like if he wouldve went of flex or some shit and spit this over a better beat, it wouldve been straight 🔥!
Lol Leafyturtles here. It was so hard to type all that and get your attention when you were right between reactions 😂😌 Phew.. but we got to see you react tho that's a W
The “if it wasn’t for..if if wasn’t for…if it wasn’t for… n*gga I got a dozen more..”am I reaching for when Lupe says “for × four“ (Slaughterhouse) and then ‘I’ve got a dozen more“ as in D12 dirty dozen?
Lupe won way too easy. I mean he is a great lyricist, but Royce got nothing, literally nothing of value in his lyrics. Just a bunch of rhymes and flows without content.
Royce went personal and called Lu a bitch. Lu went from a skill battle to a diss. Lu can showcase his skills too, and this is SLR 3 1/2, not even SLR 4. If SLR 4 drops, then you will see the real lyrical abilities of Lupe (even though he showed us his lyrical skills with Mural).
@@Portthefirst I think he’s saving SLR4 for if Royce desides to respond, also I don’t understand how people don’t know about Royce calling him a bitch, once he did that who has the best pen was over 🙅🏾♂️Royce should’ve known the gloves were off how he didn’t I’m not sure😂😂
In Royce's defense, I interpreted "big gums and small teeth" like "all bark and no bite," and if that's what he meant, that's a genuinely clever way to put it. Lu still bodied him, though.
I don't really use twitch anymore these days but I'll definitely be throwing my prime sub your way each month. Appreciate the break down. As a huge Royce fan who never really fucked with Lupe, I gotta say Lupe took round 1 hands down. Royce was technical af, but Lupe just came with the hard hits+technicalities.
For as technical as Em can be, when it comes to diss tracks, he knows when to fire simpler more direct rhymes. He’ll mix In some doubles, and shit like that but you knoooow exactly what he’s saying about you when he disses you. I feel like diss tracks are up his alley more so than Royce Tho.
All those Heaven References is because Royce Da 5’9” home studio is named Heaven. “He always in heaven cause he already dead” Royce stays in his studio and has said that numerous times on the pod.
I would say Royce took the diss more from like a race where he just wanted to show that he can run faster whereas Lupe took the diss from a perspective of Battle where he showed that he can destroy him in a rap battle…. I know Royce can do better if he was coming from the same perspective.
I agree. Royce coulda went at his throat. Not sure why he didn’t. Seem like he was just trying to show off everything he can do lyrically. Royce called it checking boxes. N his verse had more boxes checked then lupes
@@garyraffa5515 lupe doesn't have to get in a technical battle. Go listen to almost any song he's ever made and you'll see why. He literally has whole songs that are triple entendres 😂
Finally catching up on this beef. First time hearing both tracks and as much as I enjoy Royce, but his track was boring.. I definitely found myself wanting to hit the next button. Lupe totally won this.
Royce was just showcasing his technique in terms of his rhyming and wordplay. His lyrics did have meaning, but the average person wouldn't be able to comprehend his technique and Polysyllabic layering. The difference is the multis have meaning compared to an illiterate rapper saying nothing and having no layers, wordplays, literary devices, multis etc. Lupe sounds hypocritical here because every track he has dropped was very layered while puzzled with entendres full of complexity. Lupe is an abstract writer dude doesn't have the right to complain about that 😂😂😂.
Lupe isn't an abstract writer, but his lyrics are still intricate asf, he is just the most layered writer out there. Aesop Rock, Illogic, MF DOOM, and maybe even Hexagon can be seen as abstract writers.
Yooooooo this some legendary shit. Both in my top 10. I think royce was trynna flex his lyrical ability more than go at Lupe but still....lupe blazed that man. Btw you ever gonna finish those lupe breakdown
I think the more i listen to royce's song is that royce's wasnt a diss track but also wasnt intended to be. I think he was just name droppin lupe to get a response and maybe now hell unload a real diss
I think Royce was setting up his song as bait. He finessed on the track and dropped a whole vibe layered with technical prowess (as Lupe called out). He showed a position of strength. Then Lupe drops his impeccable freestyle flow and goes for the throat with directs that have doubles and triples. Lupe was able to capture the minds of the casuals and the hip hop heads which is amazing. But I think it sets up Royce to really respond now. If this ended right now, Lupe wins despite how great Royce's track was. The real W is everyone who loves hip-hop/rap. But I don't think it stops here (I hope it doesn't). I'm a fan of both and look forward to Royce's response. Let's see if I'm right.
@@boi2na Fair enough. I can see the point here. But let’s be real, Lupe had to of touched Royce with this. It’s hard for me to accept Royce won’t answer this because the community will give Lupe the W because he was the pure diss track and Royce was a more technical piece with some jabs. But maybe that’s what they intended. Time will tell.
Royce came up with very technical song, it wasn't a full diss maybe just a flex on his ability while Lupe released a freestyle personal diss. It's obvious that Lupe had more impact as a diss but Royce did what he did and both incredible.
The beef started on whos the better rapper so Royce showed that. Lupe may have been more direct but 80% of his bars were weak! For me, Royce won it. And I dont believe Royce wanted to go too hard on Lupe cuz he considered him as a friend. But after the Lupe response, if Royce was gonna do it, it wudve been hundred times vicious trust me.
HAHAHAHAH, "if Royce wanted to go hard"... lol, Lupe responded in 3.5 hours thus SLR 3 "1/2" lmfaoooo, Royce took a full week, lol. Beef started on who's the better skills, buy Royce weny personal and Lupe did a diss, this ain't about lyrical skills now, it's about being disrespectful. Now, if we talking skills, bring me the most lyrical song of Royce here and compare it to Mural. Let's count literary devices, let's count schemes, let's count entendres, let's count wordplays. I'm here, go on, I'll wait. Yes, I'm toxic, but let's debate objectively!
@@Advaitamanta and, what's the point? In no way Daylyt have used more literay devices than Lupe. Don't tell me nothing about Daylyt cause I'm a big Daylyt stan. I know his metaphoric/homophonic wordplays schemes are mindblowing, I know that his esoteric knowledge matches that of Lupe, but no way does Day have more literary devices in his songs than Lupe. In the song Mean and Vicious, Lupe used 12 different literary devices, while his rhyming method was simple. Lupe is literary devices master.
Also As a battle n judging who has the better verse in Royce mind is called checking boxes. N to him his verse checked way more boxes. But thats not what the world was expecting. Lupes verse will appeal to the masses cuz he actually came at his neck
This whole thing got so messy. Royce pressed Lupe to rap and then complained about it. He went on and pressed Mickey to rap just to complain about that too. Never answered either of them. I expected more from him. This could've been really good for Hip Hop. Sadly Royce killed it before it really took off.
The issue is that Royce didn't write this to make a scathing diss at Lupe. He was just competing. The problem is that he didn't anticipate that Lupe was going to make a scathing diss record. They had different goals.
My boi Lupe prepared, seasoned, cooked, and served. I've always had respect for him; always put him in my top 5 lyricists. My guy's like Bruce Banner - always angry. You get 1 or the other, almost never both.
@@forbiddenbox I really can't answer that. There are so many that have done it during their era. I'll give you names for a top 10 but in no particular order: BIG, Tupac, Lupe, Eminem, Lucas Going further: Jay-Z, NAS, NF (a weird choice but I have to give him credit), Tech9, and the TH-cam rap scene as a whole (a lot of these artists have better songs than most mainstream artists. Sorry if you consider this a cop out).
I'm super late now you probably know this but royce was clearly showing off his lyrical skills because the beef started because they were arguing about who is the best. But I REALLLLLLY wanted lupe to flex lyrically I think that he will WAAAAAAAAAASH Royce.
This "beef" can't really be judged imo. They did two different things. Royce rapped, Lupe dissed. Royce was asked to rap and that's what he did. I don't think he knew Lu was going to drop an actual diss track. Royce didn't drop a diss and people need to understand that lol. When they both drop ACTUAL disses we can judge it.
That’s false.. if Royce didn’t diss him then why talk about checking boxes. Royce his ass off but where are the facts ?! Subliminals are cool but undermining. Hence why he lost this one
Lupe bodied this round, but Royce not being a beef rapper? You must now know Who Got Bodied or Malcolm X...If Royce goes for a full on diss reply he could take Lupe, if anything he's more of the beef-rapper between the two
I'm a fan of Royce but this is for the ones that thought Royce was better than Em. Royce is getting exposed here unless he comes back with the dungeon and locks Lupe. But idk. That was a tko already. Lupe hit em with the soul crusher which was the right move against an artist like Royce. Not having classics, not having an impact is in every real artist rappers mind. Unfortunately, Royce is one of those artists. When Lupe brought that scheme up it was over for Royce. Lupe has 2 classic albums period. That shit will cut deep against any real artists who take their shit seriously.
what nobody seems to understand is that when royce is talking about solidarity or nick cannon's testicular fortitude, lol; he is still dissing lupe, royce is staying within his truth, not stepping down to a level of dissing that would satisfy us on a "rap beef" level but rather taking shots at the whole idea of stepping out of your character and saying things in a rap that you wouldn't say/act upon in real life. which is what lupe did for the sake of the rap beef, while royce kept the disses rather subliminal while flexing that he's the superior rapper and dissing lupe by using his diss to still touch on topics that matter and are true to royce; while saying lupe doesnt care about these issues. its a more intelligent "taking the high road" diss. but the entire song is directly towards lupe even if its not saying "LUPE YOU ARE THIS AND YOU ARE THAT" its deeper.
Nah bruh I love royce but he made himself look like a bitch, he's the better MC in my opinion but he walked into a trap and got smoked, he definitely needs to come back and get back some respect... Eminem is a friend and they are neck and neck most times but when Eminem disses you and goes for your dead relatives
Imagine if it was black thought vs one of these two and how different a battle it would be either way. I can't help but feel like that would be fun to watch based on how these two went at each other
Nobody is willing to go at Thought. There aren't negative things to say about him so you can't take the direct approach. What you gonna say "look at you playing for Fallon making money on the daily" In terms of the technical approach there may be some better than Thought but you don't wanna test him
there's nothing wrong with having an advanced rhyme scheme or being technical with it but just cuz you keep yourself to certain restraints doesn't mean your lyrics have to be all over the place. Royce's track just wasn't engaging, no hardhitting punchlines, or no consistent narrative about anything. Even if you want to get poetic or super technical with it, you still gotta realize its an art that was meant to be listened to, not read.
This whole thing started over who was the better rapper royce went and flexed his pen game lupe came at it as a diss track two different perspectives on the situation cant really compare the two royce threw out some shots but you cant tell his point was to show his talent

I really love and appreciate your channel man, I first started watching when you reviewed Detroit 2. I can always tell that you listen and actually pay attention to what they're saying in the song and you don't just do a clickbait reaction like most of theseisic reviewers. Keep doing what your doing mam
i don't even care about these two rappers and yet here i am watching the entire video because its TheThirdErnest lol

Royce bored the shit outta me. I'm not looking for that in a Diss who wants to Break down a diss down by listening 3 or 4 times, shit was boring and I got Royce in my top 5. Lupe Cooked him I gotta check him out never really listened to him.
If I were you, I would skip "drogas light" the album. Thats when his label was forcing him to be a mumble rapper. But everything else is fire!.. Ernest has a series here mainly about lupe
@@Fragmented_sins if you can lmk like 2 or 3 songs that are fire, appreciate you
Lupe Fiasco’s freshman and sophomore albums “Food & Liquor” and “The Cool” are in my weekly rotation.
@@thebluesmurfdude Thank You my Friend
Ahhh so you prefer dumbed down
In all honesty, i love Royce, but i couldnt even make it past the first quarter of the song lmao The flow was so mono.
It was so hard to type all that and get your attention when you were right between reactions 😂😌
Phew.. but we got to see you react tho that's a W
That's exactly what I was thinking! Like....just because it's intricate doesn't mean that it's good
Then obviously you weren’t listening to what he was saying 🤷🏽♂️
@@xkingxlouiex obviously.
Wasn’t this suppose to be a skill battle? Royce did not want to get very personal
yeah they arguing who had the better skill so i think royce show he got it and lupe made a diss track
Royce made a song, Lupe made a diss, so it depends how you rate it, I like Royce’s song more but Lupe won the round so….
Lupe for tha win! Heaven is the name of Royce’s studio
Pretty sure the term you were looking for, to describe Royce's dis, is called a "stream of consciousness"
In Royce's defense, I interpreted "big gums and small teeth" like "all bark and no bite," and if that's what he meant, that's a genuinely clever way to put it.
Lu still bodied him, though.
Letttss Gooo!
you gotta react to daves album fully, its a work of art and a true masterpiece man!
Already did on twitch. Should be out on TH-cam if I can get it unmuted. It’s album of the year for me so far
Who Dave?
I don't really use twitch anymore these days but I'll definitely be throwing my prime sub your way each month. Appreciate the break down. As a huge Royce fan who never really fucked with Lupe, I gotta say Lupe took round 1 hands down. Royce was technical af, but Lupe just came with the hard hits+technicalities.
For as technical as Em can be, when it comes to diss tracks, he knows when to fire simpler more direct rhymes. He’ll mix
In some doubles, and shit like that but you knoooow exactly what he’s saying about you when he disses you. I feel like diss tracks are up his alley more so than Royce
Tho.
All those Heaven References is because Royce Da 5’9” home studio is named Heaven.
“He always in heaven cause he already dead”
Royce stays in his studio and has said that numerous times on the pod.
Crazy how you could write something to technical that it kills the vibe while Lupe was actually dissing
@@garyraffa5515 no..... royce did the same lego raps he accused mickey of and thats fact.
@@garyraffa5515 lupe doesn't have to get in a technical battle. Go listen to almost any song he's ever made and you'll see why. He literally has whole songs that are triple entendres 😂
Also, I am that person that loves listening to technical rap. I enjoy it 100% and will replay for sure.
Royce can come off as the Michael Eric Dyson of rap. Let’s be real.
Lmao and I fux with MED too but I totally get what you’re saying and it’s on point.
100%
We early lfg!!!
Yo, always love your breakdown, you gotta do the Mickey Factz's WRAiTH, one of the BEST disses in recent years, so many wordplays.
Royce really needs some EQ on the voice. It sounds like it's over an intercom. It makes it a rough listen. He can rap his ass off though.
Finally catching up on this beef. First time hearing both tracks and as much as I enjoy Royce, but his track was boring.. I definitely found myself wanting to hit the next button. Lupe totally won this.
Lupe started off very kindergarten rapish idk I wasn't feeling his all that much just didn't click with me.
Nah, thanks for the welcome backs, been a bit.
Ernest the G.O.A.T POP those videos
Yooooooo this some legendary shit. Both in my top 10. I think royce was trynna flex his lyrical ability more than go at Lupe but still....lupe blazed that man. Btw you ever gonna finish those lupe breakdown
RIP Royce
you will be remembered
😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔
I think the more i listen to royce's song is that royce's wasnt a diss track but also wasnt intended to be. I think he was just name droppin lupe to get a response and maybe now hell unload a real diss
Lupe definitely freestyles some of that but if it wasn’t for and dozen more he’s talking about Four members of slaughter house and D-12
Thank you ernest I've been waiting for this ever since yesterday😤🔥
Did Lupe mention Em without mentioning him?
Long shot? Oh No Sir! He won by a lung shot. Lupe killed that man. Took the breath out of his lungs like Zaheer from Legend of Korra
Let's see if I'm right.
royce said he's not going to do a personal diss to Lu because he thinks Lu was all emotional and " didn't check the boxes "
When he was talking slaughter house when use "if it wasn't for"
The beef started on whos the better rapper so Royce showed that.
@@Portthefirst Ummm Go listen to Daylyt's age of aquarius
@@Advaitamanta and, what's the point? In no way Daylyt have used more literay devices than Lupe. Don't tell me nothing about Daylyt cause I'm a big Daylyt stan. I know his metaphoric/homophonic wordplays schemes are mindblowing, I know that his esoteric knowledge matches that of Lupe, but no way does Day have more literary devices in his songs than Lupe. In the song Mean and Vicious, Lupe used 12 different literary devices, while his rhyming method was simple. Lupe is literary devices master.
@@Advaitamanta isnt Daylyt a Lupe stan?
Also As a battle n judging who has the better verse in Royce mind is called checking boxes. N to him his verse checked way more boxes. But thats not what the world was expecting. Lupes verse will appeal to the masses cuz he actually came at his neck
This whole thing got so messy. Royce pressed Lupe to rap and then complained about it. He went on and pressed Mickey to rap just to complain about that too. Never answered either of them. I expected more from him. This could've been really good for Hip Hop. Sadly Royce killed it before it really took off.
I knew we would see I to I at some point great reaction
The issue is that Royce didn't write this to make a scathing diss at Lupe. He was just competing. The problem is that he didn't anticipate that Lupe was going to make a scathing diss record. They had different goals.
Basically, Royce wasnt "dissing" Lupe but Lupe definitely "dissed" Royce
My boi Lupe prepared, seasoned, cooked, and served.
I've always had respect for him; always put him in my top 5 lyricists.
My guy's like Bruce Banner - always angry. You get 1 or the other, almost never both.
What's your top 5 for lyricist?
@@forbiddenbox I really can't answer that. There are so many that have done it during their era. I'll give you names for a top 10 but in no particular order: BIG, Tupac, Lupe, Eminem, Lucas
Going further: Jay-Z, NAS, NF (a weird choice but I have to give him credit), Tech9, and the TH-cam rap scene as a whole (a lot of these artists have better songs than most mainstream artists. Sorry if you consider this a cop out).
@@addictedtoJB Oh good list
I never thought I'd be saying this but royce got Bodied
Man it’s not even close. Lupe 🔥
Did you review Mickey Factz diss track to Royce? I wanna see your take on it.
I'm super late now you probably know this but royce was clearly showing off his lyrical skills because the beef started because they were arguing about who is the best.
But I REALLLLLLY wanted lupe to flex lyrically I think that he will WAAAAAAAAAASH Royce.
Mural he said he would do a 16 then just flow after a certain point stop then write another 16 and flow so forth and so forth.
@@Mr2Penny It was definitely made and dropped as a response to Lupe. That doesn't make it a diss lol
Lupe bodied this round, but Royce not being a beef rapper? You must now know Who Got Bodied or Malcolm X...If Royce goes for a full on diss reply he could take Lupe, if anything he's more of the beef-rapper between the two
Two completely different classes Royce & Lupe put on.
That shit will cut deep against any real artists who take their shit seriously.
what nobody seems to understand is that when royce is talking about solidarity or nick cannon's testicular fortitude, lol;
he is still dissing lupe, royce is staying within his truth, not stepping down to a level of dissing that would satisfy us on a "rap beef" level
but rather taking shots at the whole idea of stepping out of your character and saying things in a rap that you wouldn't say/act upon in real life.
which is what lupe did for the sake of the rap beef, while royce kept the disses rather subliminal while flexing that he's the superior rapper
and dissing lupe by using his diss to still touch on topics that matter and are true to royce;
while saying lupe doesnt care about these issues.
its a more intelligent "taking the high road" diss. but the entire song is directly towards lupe even if its not saying "LUPE YOU ARE THIS AND YOU ARE THAT"
its deeper.
Now you should do Mickey Facts diss "Wraith"
THE IMPRESSION OF THAT GUY YOU FRIENDS WITH. HE WAS TALKING ABT EMINEM.
The thing is this all started to prove who is the best. Royce went in with mentality but Lupe went for more direct personal diss and cuts.
Royce called him a bit*h and thought it would be friendly? That's his fk up
Lupe & the third 1-0
you need to check out Daylyt's Loaded Lux Diss and Loaded Lux dissing every battle rapper on (G.O.D)
Royce diss didn’t really seem like a diss honestly. Just not any real diss punch lines that made it feel relevant to a rap beef
Imagine if it was black thought vs one of these two and how different a battle it would be either way. I can't help but feel like that would be fun to watch based on how these two went at each other
Nobody is willing to go at Thought. There aren't negative things to say about him so you can't take the direct approach. What you gonna say "look at you playing for Fallon making money on the daily"
In terms of the technical approach there may be some better than Thought but you don't wanna test him
Hip hop needs this bliss
LETS GO! Great time for the fans. Lupe got this round
there's nothing wrong with having an advanced rhyme scheme or being technical with it but just cuz you keep yourself to certain restraints doesn't mean your lyrics have to be all over the place. Royce's track just wasn't engaging, no hardhitting punchlines, or no consistent narrative about anything. Even if you want to get poetic or super technical with it, you still gotta realize its an art that was meant to be listened to, not read.
Royce made his own version of mural
and it was shiiiiiiit. That was clearly a mistake. He thought he did something special too going off his instagram comments.
royce made the song to show he is a better mc, lupe made the song to diss him
This whole thing started over who was the better rapper royce went and flexed his pen game lupe came at it as a diss track two different perspectives on the situation cant really compare the two royce threw out some shots but you cant tell his point was to show his talent
You call someone a bitch and expect him to not be a real diss…that’s his fuck up
@@TheThirdErnest forgot in the rap game calling anyone a bitch was still a big thing lol
