    Played for 21 years never pitched, last season my pitcher was out of town for two games and no one else can pitch so I watched this and practiced and started 2 games... went 1-1 with NO walks!!! Thanks for the how to!

    Was supposed to play OF this past weekend my pitcher backed out last second... I went into pitching my 1st Utrip tourney didn't have my mask either. Long story short we lost by 1 in the Ship on walk off but now I'm the new pitcher for our team. So here I am watching videos at work to learn lol

    totally agree.. the Pitcher is the field general.. it is our job to work/pitch for a desired outcome.. we also field (and if you don't then you should start).. I check with my SS & 2B every batter when somebody is on base.. to make sure we all know who has coverage.. pitching is FUN if you take it a bit more serious and really get into the inner-game of the game.

      We totally agree. It's truely a softball skill of its own. It seems like a fair amount of non-pitchers don't understand the complexities but I hope this sheds a bit of light on the subject

    I'm also a lefty, only started pitching 2 years ago, last year a really good lefty showed me the same pitch you use, so I started to only use that pitch. I'm still trying to perfect my accuracy. At times I have to throw the same way to ensure I don't walk too many. Sometimes I walk none and other games i walk up to 3. I do get at least 1 K and/or a foul out per game also. This video will help me when I develop more control throughout the whole game. I will watch this video many times.

    Hello,
    Looks like your video indicates that you were at Funston Park in SF. Use to play there back in the 1960’s. Did some umpiring of softball and baseball games back then. Thanks for sharing👍

      I had the same thought. It looked like the video started with the clubhouse in the background along Chestnut street. I started playing on that exact field in the early 70's. Elu's Basque restaurant was our sponsor. A lot different with wooden bats.

    I play in a corporate slow pitch league in south SF. Watching a few videos with Jamie I see I can learn a whole lot from him! I'm also a palm-up pitcher, with only a few years pitching with intention. I'm trying to learn new pitches. I'm wondering if Jamie is still pitching around the SF area? I'd love to catch a game and maybe pick the man's brain. cheers! ~Dan

    6:00 mess with timing, full count pressure on the batter

    13:00 variations on defense
    14:00 seeing a batter, throwing deeper/shorter pitches based off batters stance up/back in the box

    Thank you for helping pitchers , there is more to it that « just throw strikes « . I am always working on different pitches and control. It is slow pitch but if I can keep the batters timing off , then my defense can have a chance. Thanks Jamie for your info . Dave J. Fla

    Jamie is such a beast. Question, I wonder if Jamie ever pitches knowing the ball to force a fly ball that is easy to catch in the outfield?

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He absolutely does that! Good pitchers are very strategic. They almost always are pitching to the batter in a way that forces them to hit to a specific spot. Obviously, good batters can try and counter that strategy as well. That's when you really start to see who is out there playing chess and who is still playing checkers.

    I think lefties in slow pitch are harder to time without some experience against them. The only benefit to the lefty righty matchup in baseball is getting to see the ball longer which I would personally consider a negative in slow pitch.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Batting against a lefty pitcher can definitely throw you off if you don't see it often. Ball is always moving the opposite direction as expected!

  • @davidjoseph7273
    @davidjoseph7273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just remind pitchers to practice pitching BP as much as possible and to not get discouraged. It is slow pitch and good hitters can and will hit anything. I started pitching mens fastpitch softball , windmill. And I also was able to pitch behind my back .

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most pitchers I see still back up into the open spot to field unless it is hit to them. When it is hit to them usually they are close enough to run it back or the 5 man can usually come up and cover the bag. If anyone else has another strategy let us know!

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Terminator! We recommend trying to throw as much BP as possible. That gives you a lot of opportunities to try different things. When we talked to conference pro Mike Nino, he said he was pitching BP 2-3 sessions per week to hone in his skills. If you don't have anyone to throw to, you can still get a bucket of balls and practice at the diamond just trying to hit your spots. Check out our pitching series for tips & tricks on different pitches to incorporate into your practice sessions. Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Question for Jaime....how would you approach hitters in a league where the Arc max is 6ft. and batters start at 1-1 count?

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is the minimum arc for this league?

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From Jaime :
      Well regardless (of height limits) my answer would be:
      Always strive to hit the ceiling
      6ft could turn into 8ft depending on the ump
      Mix up your pitches side to side and and front to back of the plate
      Basically pitch like you normally would keeping the height limit in mind, then just adjust accordingly

      I've seen his videos and I'm very intrigued. I seem to hear a lot of comments about that style being referred to as "church league spinners". It seems to be a derogatory term. I honestly don't know why. His style seems really effective.

    • @LeagueNightSoftball
      @LeagueNightSoftball  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking Brooks. We play in the city a fair amount and none of the fields have HR fences. Therefore, if you decided to play a 3 man outfield anything in the gap turns into a homerun. Also, most league night teams that I have seen run 4 outfielders. It's actually very common I'm surprised you haven't seen it before.
