You won't be sorry buying the slammer! The drag on that reel is so smooth and it's addicting hearing those micro clicks.

Hmm... all Penn reels. The title should've been "Top 5 Penn Surf fishing reels". I would think the Daiwa Saltigas, Shimano SWs or Van Staal would have something to say about that.

My favorites are the shimano ultegra 5500 lc, the tica talisman 4000 & 8000 and the spinfisher 5500 lc. The slammer is more of a boat reel do to the lower drag setting being too tite, I nearly lost mine in the surf because of that.

I love my Slammer…not sure about the comment below from someone stating this real is a boat reel? I use my 5500 exclusively from the shore matched to a Mojo, amazing combo, small cats to 100 lbs sharks caught, and everything in between, never failed, and no issues with the drag setting!! Awesome reel. Expensive, but worth every penny. I can hand it to a novice, and not worry about a novice doing it anything stupid.

Liked and subscribed.I appreciate your time. I live in North Carolina an hour and a half from the coast. Stuff is not in stock like it usually is at tackle shops. It might be but it might not be. I might have to buy online site unseen. I do have some good stuff. Not much. I’ll pay money for good quality. Saint Croix. Tide master ..I think.?. And 2000 series reels. Fin-nor&peen. Swap back-and-forth. None of it’s right in front of me. The reels are not top-of-the-line ,but close. ..200 ish. The last time I bought anything was the 90s. I take good care of my stuff. I am having an urge to buy Something a little longer. Maybe 8 1/2 feet or so. Size up to a 2500 maybe 3000. Trap braid for the first time maybe.? Thin diameter rod. I’ll get some bigger stuff that I will be putting in a rod holder sometime. Maybe next year. What do you think about the 8 1/2 footer and a larger than 2000 series reel idea? I want to be able to cast out further. Do a lot of flounder fishing in close .Travel light. Ziploc bag with a few pieces of tackle in my pocket and one rod and reel. Cast hundreds of times per day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a good one.
