Being Italian, I always felt that being fashionable, without even trying, was just something in our nature. I personally was always surrounded by it (my uncle was a tailor who made the most beautiful pieces, and my mother at age 80 is still the best-dressed person I know). This melts my Italian heart! Thank you, Alyssa.
Perfetto!! I loved this from start to finish! Each store and each person you interviewed was different yet all shared a common baseline of the Italian approach to style.... Quality fabrics, classics mixed with modern, and/or vintage, and style over fashion. More please, Alyssa. Brava!
Probably one of your best videos yet! As an Italian, I need to be reminded to come back to my roots of style instead of being swayed by the current trends. Italian style is always on trend! :)
Alyssa, I'm so impressed with your Italian language skills! Bravo! Not only did you interview the shop owners, but you did a great job with the subtitles. It had to be time-consuming to do all that plus the editing. Well done! I'm a retired Spanish teacher so I definitely can appreciate the work you put in to this video.
I'm half Italian and was raised by an Italian mother who insisted we look nice, even when trekking down to the library on Saturdays. And no one dressed like my Sicilian grandmother. I love carrying on that tradition by trying to dress like her and by following stylish Italian influencers like you ;) Thanks for the wonderful content!
Yes, came here to say the same. Abruzzese Mom is a seamstress, in her 80s, we always had to be dressed well, not fancy, but good fabrics like one of the shop owners said. Many trips to Toronto from western ny to buy the "good fabric", lol, the best times. Enjoyed watching the interviews, great job on the translating.
Can you share some styles they wear when they are exercising, cooking and gardening? Would love to know😊 I live in Texas where it’s hot! I am not a fan of the ordinary exercise clothing. And then when it actually gets cold would love to know the what they tend to wear in the situations I mentioned above. Here it’s the yoga pants, sweatshirt, t-shirt, running shorts, just an overall sloppy look.
These videos are SOOOOOOOO enjoyable! I like to peek into the stores, listen to the different shopkeepers---and see their personalities jump out, watch you try different pieces, and just enjoy the different sensibilities and philosophies around dressing up. Yes, I would watch many, many more.
Fabia from Biba gave the advice I like the best and probably closest to my personal aesthetic: body type, fabric, balance, white shirt, jeans, and ALWAYS, sunglasses, with great winter coat. ❤
Thank you so much - I really enjoyed this! It was so interesting hearing directly from boutique owners, and also appreciated that they were all so different. Absolutely agree that the quality of the fabric is in many ways the most important consideration. I think we've all bought cute pieces made of garbage fabrics that didn't wear or wash well. I'm no longer willing to compromise on that - which is another reason I"m so glad to be inspired by you to shop vintage and consignment stores. It's truly dispiriting to see so many "straight to the landfill" garbagy pieces being flogged today - even by formerly quality brands.
This was so interesting and engaging, those people were delightful! As an American I feel we have gotten way too sloppy and could really learn something from this ❤
Really, really love these type of videos, Alyssa! Everyone is so charming and vibrant and a beautiful representation of the slow fashion movement! I personally love vintage pieces because the quality and craftsmanship back then is far more superior than what it is now so I definitely agree with Fabia that fabric is one of the most important elements in fashion and enhancing one’s personal style. Brava!
One thing that struck me watching the people you interviewed was how beautifully fitted their clothing was. Not necessarily high fashion, but because it was impeccably made and fitted their figure perfectly, it looked fabulous. This stood out even though I wasn’t consciously looking for a common denominator. I think the lady from Biba may have expressed it and she struck the nail on the head. She certainly emphasised fabric quality and construction quality seemed to be implied and certainly the feel of clothing really matters to me now, as I know myself well enough to know that if it feels uncomfortable I will never wear it.
love this video! made me miss living in Italy. Being back in Canada I feel embarrassed to wear some od the garments I own and wore in Europe because people don’t dress like you that here. However, this video made me realize as i go into fall, that i should embrace my personal style! Buon consiglio, grazie
LOVED this video. One of your best. I had to watch it three times. First to read the subtitles and conversation, next just to admire all the beautiful clothes in the shops and last to see the wonderful items you tried on (I hope you treated yourself to some of them!). Looking forward to your next Shop Your Closet and I would highly recommend these events to everyone. In addition to being so fun I have learned a lot from them. I have to say that while Paris gets the lion's share of attention for style it was while traveling in Italy that I saw the most impeccably dressed women everywhere I went.
Love these videos in Italian shops - please do more of them! The colours, the patterns, the original cuts, the little details... so different from the clothes you tend to see in Canada, where things seem to have been stripped down to a very neutral, simple, unembellished look. Watching this video is a reminder there's another world out there, it's beautiful, and we can all learn from it. 💕
This is wonderful!! I’ve always wanted to go to Italy and embrace their culture…now you have given me the chance through your video. Thank you so very much for sharing. ❤️ I love everything about this video!
Brava, Alyssa! This was a joy to watch, from start to finish. The interviews, garments and accessories featured, and overall ambiance and vibe were all impeccable. (Also, spectacular editing.) Could not keep my eyes off this content. Keep these coming. Watching this felt like taking a mini vacation, surrounded by beautiful objects, with a sprinkle of melodic Italian to lift one’s spirits.
I love Italian style! I appreciate the elegant simplicity along with the originality and creativity and importance placed on quality. For me, italian style is the best.
Fascinating responses from the shopkeepers and I felt like I was right there with you in Italy, exploring these adorable vintage shops! I loved that it was all in Italian with subtitles.
Alyssa, this video was pure joy. You are so beautiful and so warm, it was a pleasure from start to finish. I felt like I was visiting Italy with some charming, intelligent friends. The magic of the Italian esthetic is so refreshing, and so elegant.
Yes! Keep this type of video interviewing vintage shop owners coming! I did not even know to look for vintage shops in Sicily where I frequently visit! Ciao, ciao, Bella!
You're becoming my travel consultant! Last Spring Croatia--next Spring Puglia area! Merci Alyssa, you are a natural at promoting fashion and travel...🤩
It seemed a totally different format of video and I love it because are boutiques and not just super known places or young designers trying to sell their views but regular people with a love for fashion and amazing sense of it!
I loved it! What the other side of the world is doing is always fab in my book. It is also nice to know that for some reason, what is happening there is inherent in the things that I too have in my wardrobe and where my fashion sense lies: total affirmation. Although at my age, I don't think I care any longer what people think. Ahh, one of the few joys of getting older. Thank you for this. I loved the content and also the length of the video. Would love to see longer videos and with more content like this. Traveling the world is a wonderful gift and going to vintage and thrift stores only enhances your love of sustainability. Love to see more of this content. Thanks again Alyssa. Chic as always. K
I was amazed how the shop owners knew my size, just by looking at me. And their insistence on better fabric, “ no, no , madam, this one is silk!” I admire their dedication to fit and fabric. Well done video. Thanks👍🏻❤️
Love these kinds of videos! It's great to see some of what Italian vintage shops curate and offer. Also, really wonderful to hear what the shop owners suggest for anyone wanting to add Italian style to their wardrobe. It's really nice to hear from fashion experts who don't encourage mass consumption. And yes, spend the time in Italy! ❤
I loved this video. All of the shop owners gave wonderful advice. As someone who spent 30 years working in the women’s boutique clothing industry and personal styling, I related most to Fabia of Biba’s words of style wisdom. Most particularly balancing the specialness of items within a look. YES! Ps. Your Italian is wonderful, Alyssa!
I love that black mini dress! Love this format. I'd like to see something like this but speaking with people "on the street" about their fashion sense.
We can take away from all the stores that the quality of the garment or accessories are number 1. How you wear them is your personal style. Casual elegant was described by all. Thanks for this very interesting and fun Q&A with real people-not influencers 😊
I really enjoyed this video. The Italian point of view on style is very special. I'm sorry to have to miss the upcoming live event but hope to be at the next. Greetings from Germany! Ciao, Linda
What I always notice in Italy is the use of interesting and subtle tonal combination, particularly shades of brown and beige, and use of colour pops in two items.
I looooved this video! I have to agree heavily with a good winter coat. Having a nice coat is absolutely my favourite wardrobe piece that stands out year after year.
I love this video. These are exactly the kinds of shops I enjoy and it's a treat to hear the owners' perspectives. I have an Italian friend who always looks amazing so it's fun to better understand some of the elements of her style.
The outfit you're wearing at 5:30 is absolutely lovely Alyssa. Your pink blouse with a blazer and the rich patterned skirt with the pink tones in it. It's gorgeous and I think it really suits your style.
This video is fabulous ..Italian style is a 'feeling' , always elegant no matter how casual ... the various adjectives they used inspire me to change some wording on my website for my interior design work. GREAT JOB ..love this type of video.!!
Great video in one of my favorite cities in Italy, Lecce. Sad to say, I have never been in those shops. My mother was Italian and it was always about La Bella Figura, which is exactly what they summarized in their fashion advice. It doesn't take a lot of clothes or money to do, just some quality pieces, some thought each time you get dressed, and realistic eye for what works for your body. My never leave the house item, is also earrings. I loved being able to hear their advice in Italian, which I speak, but the translation was nice too. As always, you looked great in all of the styles and I loved the whimsical tricolore dress.
Greata video, I loved that you went into the stores and talked with the people, lovely because these are small stores and they have real people working in them, it is lovely.
Here's what else I love about the Italians...they always say exactly what they mean! (I have Italian in-laws.) I truly love their honesty, their sense of themselves and their style, and their absolute pride in being Italian.
I love your channel and this was such a fun video to see. I loved seeing these great shops and felt that I was in Italy with you. Can you do a vide on how to find your way around a vintage store? They can be overwhelming. Thanks for all your great content!
This was amazing! I just have to note that every jacket you put on would be one that I’d buy in a heart beat…why can’t we find something like them over here in Canada?!?! Loooved this video…more please!
It's always enjoyable to watch your videos, Alyssa. Thanks. Right away... Maurizio's black skirt...yes! So comfortable and cool lookibg. Yes to Carmen about wearing lots of jewelry and confortable shoes! I want to meet these folks out for dinner! All shop owners interviewed are delightful. They surely adore you! 😊❤ Still wanting to become fluent in Italian, too...
Alyssa, Thank you for this beautiful video. I enjoyed your interaction with the Italian shop owners, and their practical advice. The language the clothing, and the video... all beautiful! Brava!!!!! More more more, please!!!!
Love your Italian vids. I've always been drawn to Italian style. I think they allow room for a little more quirk & flamboyance than 'French style' - which can come off as more of a uniform (which can be handy too). X Kitty.
Alyssa for me, this absolutely has to be hands down THE best or rather most fave of all your videos. While I enjoyed them all, being able to have be a fly on the wall and get a peek and listen as you chatted to Italians in Italian, and hearing their opinion in their native language just made my day today. I glanced at the subtitles occasionally as my confidence is not high, then gave up and just listened to what they were saying. I understood much of what was said and that was such a joy. Thank you so much! If ever you’re back in Italy and fancy soo more of the same I am your No 1 fan. Booking my spot now.
I really enjoyed this video. You are fortunate to be able to travel so much - I appreciate you sharing these adventures. The store owners were delightful, I hope you picked up a few interesting pieces.
So, so, so, bella! My immigrant Italian family embodies these fashion standards. Always be put together! Always be elegant, even when casual… clean, tailored clothing, great grooming & a fabulous Italian smile!😘🥰😍
This was a great video! I mostly grew up in a city with a pretty large southern Italian community and absorbed a lot of these ideas about style , especially the idea that one shouldn’t go out in public, even for the smallest chores, without looking put-together. Now that I’m a middle aged adult living far from this area I don’t think anyone in the community I live in can quite understand why I make sure I have my makeup freshened and change into “nice” jeans to run out to the post office. The last store proprietor really hit the nail on the head with her advice that the difference is in the choice of clothes made of beautiful quality fabrics though.
I absolutely loved this. You have inspired me to go from over consumption to what Christina describes as minimalist-ish. I look forward to your videos every week and also the sustain this podcast. I really enjoy when you share inspiration photos of women that wear extended sizes like I do. For example, like you did on some of your outfit inspiration from Pinterest.
I loved the last two Boutiques, the clothes in the second one and the third lady gave great advice about dressing for your body type. Loved the video and love the Italian style. OH and I speak spanish and understood most of the conversation. Another great video Alysaa!
Being Italian, I always felt that being fashionable, without even trying, was just something in our nature. Probably one of your best videos yet! As an Italian, I need to be reminded to come back to my roots of style instead of being swayed by the current trends. Italian style is always on trend! :)
Italians always dress up so effortlessly beautiful. I'm so green with envy and wish to dress as good as they are.
But the current trends always come from Milan...

The gentleman in the skirt - fabulous and elegant, WOW!

Everyone you interviewed was so charming! Seems like charm is the essence of Italian style. Thoroughly enjoyed the video.

Yes Alyssa, please tell us if you bought anything! If a few items please do a haul video!
I loved the clothes you were trying on!

Keep these coming. Watching this felt like taking a mini vacation, surrounded by beautiful objects, with a sprinkle of melodic Italian to lift one’s spirits.
Goodness me the style and confidence they exude. So inspiring 😊
And the leather jacket. Is beautiful!
Italians are simply amazing. Anything they wear is totally exquisite and gorgeous and oozing with glamour.
I love Italian style! I appreciate the elegant simplicity along with the originality and creativity and importance placed on quality. For me, italian style is the best.
Alyssa, I REALLY hope you bought that dress at 15:07!!! GREAT style and colors for you. Grazie a lei. Ciao bela.
Fascinating responses from the shopkeepers and I felt like I was right there with you in Italy, exploring these adorable vintage shops! I loved that it was all in Italian with subtitles.
Absolutely loved this video! Fantastic people!
What a treat! Grazie davvero e si, fanne ancora!!!
You modelled the clothes so well Alyssa! It's been a wonderful insight into Italian taste and how it's evolved

Your excellent questions gave me a real insight into what these shop owners base their styles on. I would love to shop at all three shops!
This was an awesome video, I really really loved it.

I looooved this video! I have to agree heavily with a good winter coat. Having a nice coat is absolutely my favourite wardrobe piece that stands out year after year.
Do more of this! I loved it. Hearing the perspective of others, and from all the different points of view, was wonderful. Thank you!

Excellent video, Alyssa! I enjoyed this so much. Really!! These people ALL preach the same thing you do. Like minds.... Good job, girl!
So glad you liked it thank you for watching! xx
I thought you have already given really solid advice on dressing like an Italian - identify your best body part and show it off )
Great video in one of my favorite cities in Italy, Lecce. Sad to say, I have never been in those shops. Love this! Everything looks great on you! (which probably makes it tougher to choose!) But loved the fit of the black leather jacket!
Fantastic video. Thankyou.
Love your Italian vids. I've always been drawn to Italian style. I think they allow room for a little more quirk & flamboyance than 'French style' - which can come off as more of a uniform (which can be handy too). X Kitty.
Agreed.
I absolutely LOVE this video!!! What a wonderful way to get inspiration from another’s creativity
I really enjoyed this video. You are fortunate to be able to travel so much - I appreciate you sharing these adventures. The store owners were delightful, I hope you picked up a few interesting pieces.
How wonderful! I have relatives in Northern Italy. I agree--thry have style!
Fabulous - more of this please. I hope you bought something!
So, so, so, bella! My immigrant Italian family embodies these fashion standards. Always be put together! Always be elegant, even when casual… clean, tailored clothing, great grooming & a fabulous Italian smile!😘🥰😍
14:36 This dress is so beautiful! I love the insights on Italian style. More of this please.

Loved it!!! Love Italy!!! We'll see what my daughter brings from Firenze, now... And I also love Italian influencers...😍
I always gasp in delight when I see a beautiful lining ❤
I loved the last two Boutiques, the clothes in the second one and the third lady gave great advice about dressing for your body type. Loved the video and love the Italian style. OH and I speak spanish and understood most of the conversation. Another great video Alysaa!
