    Why are you not hanging the headset cable above your head?
    The biggest issue with the wired headset is the wire, and the only good way to hide the wire is to hang it from the ceiling. If you have a proper retracing mechanism for the wire, you won't even notice the wire while playing most games. When you are not playing, simply hang the headset at the center of your play area about as high as you are comfortable reaching it with one arm.

      or just buy an oculus quest and walk around your house putting up your own coded GUI's at the fridge, door, ect.
      the door can have an interface that works to order products, like pizza and groceries. or tell you the weather before you walk out.
      the interface for the fridge can keep track of things you've ran out on (you'll obviously need to add some sensors, or do the inputs yourself as needed)
      but it can be great, as a way to add dynamic music to different area's of the home. giving the bathroom it's own theme, and having opening the door activate a reminder to do list

    its so easy to add another plug in your ceiling in a commercial building like linus is in. All the junction boxs for 110v-120v are in the ceiling and an electrician could just jump off the plug circuit for the room in 10 minutes with about 40$ of gear. Also regarding the VR setup if you wanted to do something similar to this at home (without putting your pc in the attic) you could mount the sensors to ceiling and drill a hole into your attic to pull the cables up there and run a channel of wire mold (whatever size you need) down from the ceiling to your pc to pull it all back down to your pc. The wire mold will hide the hole going down to the PC and and low voltage pull through plates will cover the sensor holes. If your handy you could even forgo the wiremold and drill a hole in the attic down into the wall cavity and fish the wires all down inside the wall. There isnt any code on the low voltage wires for residential housing. I've been an electrician for 6 years which is where im getting my information and honestly its alot cheaper to do a setup like this than to go buying camera poles for the camera's.

    At this point you could put one of those enclosures thingy you use for projectors on the ceiling, mount your pc into it and just run the cables with some covers on the ceiling in straight lines.
    It wouldn't be as stealthy but it wouldn't require making holes in the walls and making upgrade or changing stuff to the setup would be much easier. And you could phisically access the computer in a couple seconds without opening up the ceiling every time

    Just a thought, gentlemen. Typically the space above an acoustic tile drop ceiling (the area where you placed your laptop) does not circulate air. As a result, the area tends to be a dust magnet, especially if the air return duct has a leak. Since you are in Canada, heat buildup isn't like a problem to the extent that it is here in southern California. But I would recommend picking up a portable HEPA air purifier and placing it near the laptop. Get the kind with a fan rather than the passive "Ionic Breeze" method of moving air. Be sure to place it on a some sort of platform that spans the tile frames and not directly on the ceiling tile itself. The latter is not designed to support weight. It wouldn't hurt to put the laptop on the same platform either. ;-) Finally, turn the computer off and let the air purifier run overnight when you first put it in. It's going to kick up a little dust to begin with.

      you mean like the ones already available from Lenovo, Asus, HP, Samsung, Acer and Dell? I have a Vive and a Lenovo, and even tho WMR it has it's dissadvantages, (specially controller tracking when out of sight) I can't recommend anyone to buy a Vive now with all the inconveniences and cost. The Occulus is slightly more attractive, but still messy to setup since it doesn't have inside out tracking and the resolution is lower than all WMR headsets, specially the Samsung, wich is also hard to recommend with the current price it has.

    • @Snotnarok
      @Snotnarok 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    • @sqlevolicious
      @sqlevolicious 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope. Inside out tracking sucks for full-dive VR. Controllers losing tracking outside of the FOV of the optical sensors making it difficult for a lot of applications. WMR is pretty much only good as a budget VR setup or a VR kit on-the-go. I also recommend WMR for watching movies! But maybe the pimax 8k or Vive pro will suit better in that department soon. (owner of a lenovo explorer, pre-ordere vive, and pre-ordered vive pro coming in soon)

    Bungee wire holders / automatic nametag holders with a spool work just fine for cable to the headset (from the ceiling), and you dont trip over them :-)
    - you should add a cable hook near the wall socket, so you dont damage the plugs/socket when ripping the cable out at an angle. Just use zipties to make a slope in the wire to hang onto.
