#deadmalls #deadmall #harrisburg
At Christmas time back in the day, you used to have to drive around for 20 minutes just to find a parking spot.
I remember when this was a happening place. It’s sad to see malls becoming extinct. I enjoyed malls in the 1980s
I live in this area. Its so sad to see this mall dead, i spent alot of years inside that mall at the record store right around where the movie theater is.
This was the mall I spent my teenage years in the early 00s. It's so surreal. I never thought it would go this way
Early 00s? Lmfao Damn you’re old.
I still walk around there all the time I love the place
In high school , that mall was our safe gathering place. I worked in a few stores there .
looks like a really nice clean mall
Historians of the future thank you for documenting this moment
Last time I was here I believe there was still a Fisbone store right next to Boscov's
LOL that moved down 22 like a decade and a half ago.
It's a shame. I have alot of fond memories hanging out at the Colonial Park Mall. Like skipping school to visit the Spaceport arcade. The countless movies I've seen in the theater. Hanging out with friends and girlfriends. Good times.
Me too brother. Me too.
One day my son & I visited this mall after not going for awhile and so much had changed. Yankee Candle, Auntie Anne's, GNC, Gertrude Hawk Chocolates, Victoria's Secret, Hallmark and so many more stores have gone. It's really strange to have witnessed its decline. I went here as a kid all the way back when it had ugly red carpeting instead of tile on the floor!
I recall the ugly red carpeting. I was just a kid when they transfered it to tile.
When the carpet was there, you would suddenly DIP down while walking...hence the move to tile and stairs. I enjoyed the mental goose of the carpet walking.
I have some great childhood memories that involved this place lol
Same.
Cool channel and video
I went in to stop by this mall a month ago half of what you feature that was left is already gone really sad!
I wish the mall had more stores I enjoy taking my children school shopping and then we go to the food court and movies, SOS help keep the mall alive !!!!!!!!!!!!
My Aunt used to work for Sears back in the offices not on the sales floor. She used to use her employee discount for my Dad and Grandfather if they needed anything. Especially when buying a new lawn tractor in the mid to late 70's. My other memories is playing on the Commodore 64 computers inside Boscov's in the mid to late 80's. I haven't been in that mall in over 15 years probably if not more.
But it was still doing well 15 years ago especially with the Funtime Discount Cinema. Affordable place for the entire family to catch a movie.
Keep the mall alive-write all memories!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
This makes me so very sad. This place was THE place in the 90s and 2000s. Especially during the weekend or holiday time.
You should have seen it in the mid- late 80s, twice as many people were in this mall
Looks like a nice mall. Great explore! 😊😊😊
Interesting video. Thanks.
I grew up hanging out in this mall. As you walked down it I was remembering the stores that were there in its hay day. The main mall in the area in the Capital City mall and that seems to be doing well. Both malls on the east shore, the Colonial Park and Harrisburg mall are done.
i loved this mall when i was a kid. i can only recall the last 2 times i was there. a couple falls ago to see venom let there be carnage in their movie theater. and the time before that was sometime in 2018. this mall was always so lively and fun. i guess the only mall that’s still alive in this area is the capital city mall.
Yup.
Capital City Mall is the only one still "alive" in the area.
I've lived 3 blocks away from this mall since 1998 that was the only fountain and it's amazing to see what it's become now...
My dad took my little sister and I to this mall every Saturday to walk around in the 90s as kids. We would usually see a movie too. I am going to really miss this place once it's gone. Maybe it's for the best because I was there about a month ago and it was very sad.
I was here a few months ago. After the Harrisburg Mall closed, a few stores moved here. I figured it would get a new lease on life, but it was absolutely dead apart from Spencer's and the pet store
Cool Video
This video just brought back two memories of the River Valley Mall in Lancaster, Ohio. When the mall was a going concern, it also had a fountain. Also featured was a guest services station that was in the middle of the mall, always staffed by two or three attractive young women.
Great video Jeremy!
My Aunt has lived in Harrisburg near Central Dauphen East since the early 80s. I went to this mall alot on my preteen and teen years.
Back in the day, there was a bowling alley there as well. I've heard stories of my grandmother's brothers working there as pin setters.
The bowling alley was behind the mall. Not in it. Sad how much has changed and how empty it is.
It was a good thing that Buffalo Wild Wings left cuz it was supposed to open up the door for a form of a Dave & Buster's to be placed in The Bon-Ton
Thanks for this video. It brings back memories. Back in 1979 to 1986, I frequented this mall to go to Sears, a hobby store, and I got my haircuts at the barber shop on the rear of the mall. The floor was uneven, carpeted and sort of lumpy. It now looks brighter, more modern, but obviously with less foot traffic.
I can still hear Michael Jackson playing on the overhead sound system.
I haven’t been back for a quarter of a century. Another dying mall, thanks to big retail and online shopping.
Allied Hobby! Home of D&D supplies for the Harrisburg suburban area in the 1980s!
Wawa was also supposed to be placed in the parking lot area near the Sears
You live in York too. That's cool
Bath and body works recently moved to colonial commons from this mall
The management there is partly to blame. Harrisburg mall is nowhere what it was either. The decline of these malls is so sad.
My first kiss was at this mall when I was 13 in 1989. Thanks for ruining my childhood Amazon!
Also Nordstrom's was supposed to be the next anchor store along with H&M
Sadly this mall is going up for Sheriff's sale soon.
It is, as a security guard here, expect anything
The building you just walk past on the right hand side was supposed to be a possible restaurant
Looks like a lot of people walking around for all the empty stores
The mall lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does CVS was supposed to be replaced by Walgreens with a drive-thru the drive through whatever place the area where the garbage dumps dumpsters were located
This mall started going downhill for me when they shut down the Family Fun Center arcade in 2012 (or '13).
That’s where the stupid wild wings is now.
You should have been there for the Space Port in the early 80s. Quintessential 80s arcade fun.
Spent a lot of time here as a young kid
Was this before Christmas? There’s a lot of people in the mall. I also noticed that it has a lot of stairs. The mall is nice but seems dark. The fountain was pretty.
This was recorded in January. The exact date is in the description.
Very depressing 😢
it was very busy before covid
I think the Sears closing here was the first sign of trouble. SO many people came to this mall with Sears in mind first, then ventured through the mall. Once that went, it was only a matter of time in my opinion.
@@chocolatetownforever7537 yeah I mean I came to the mall after covid about 6 months and it was busy. they knew sears was doomed for years I thought it was closed but I guess the side door was open for a bit. they need to put things in malls you cant get online. Maybe a indoor mini golf and or lazer tag? maybe a baking class for cooking. maybe one of those bounce places that have the giant fans for sky diving. then you work around that a few clothing stores not like 20 all for women. a game shop is a must board games and or video maybe be able to play things at the store. I dunno covid made people lazy just ordering stuff online im just as guilty. micro center in this mall would kill best buy has no real competition its a giant pc store closet ones around are 2 hours about. only have like 14 in the usa.
@@RuinNationGaming Pretty cool suggestions. I just know that the Sears HAD to be a huge rent number with all that square footage, so without them, or that space filled, the mall wont come close to making as much money for the owners. Are the new owners still looking for tenants, or are they only interested in the property to level it and do something completely different? I think as you said, maybe do things that people cant get mail ordered. Maybe research other malls that are still thriving around the country and copy what they are doing? Idk, its sad, but then again, im biased, and life does move on.
@@chocolatetownforever7537 it went to auction no idea what happen yet
Do you have any Newberry's or McCrory stuff? Since they were from York as well.
Yes I do.
Nice, my first job in York.
I have a question. Was this small built on a hill or on very uneven ground? Because there are a lot of steps and ramps in that mall for being a one-level mall
Yes the mall is on a small hill, and if you are driving around the mall, you can kind of see how it is built on a slant.
@@JeremysRetailExploration thank you for clarifying that because I have never seen a one-level mall with so many ramps and stairs
Before they put the steps in it had a rug that was on the hills. It was a very dark mall and very uneven. I think they just put the rugs on the dirt lol.
Yep and was an open air mall before being enclosed
Great video Jeremy. What kinda stuff from Bon Ton are you looking for? PM me and lmk.
Harrisburg mall headed in the same direction and will be torn down. Another Indian restaurant moving into buffalo wild wings. That's like the 20th India restaurant in the area. Buyer of mall backed out. Retail brick and mortar is dead. Time to level the mall.
Wait does this as colonial park mall is same on roblox?
Spencers and the movie theater have now closed or a closing soon.
I know
Are any moves being made to restore Colonial Park to its former glory?
Not really.
Community activists/protests?
@@gianpolignano2632 Lol, in this community? never. We tend to get the short end of the stick in harrisburg. Community development is few and far between, and we almost never get anything interesting. All theyve been building recently is express car washes around here.
The mall is going up for Sheriff's Sale sometime soon. They're close to Million Dollars behind in bills
@@johderendingerjr3522 July 2023
You just entered the food court what you supposed to be shut down and replaced by a supermarket
Great Fountain!!!! F+L, Corey
Dead mall is right.
I remember riding my bike as a kid in the 80s/early 90s and it was the SHIT.
It's been dead for 20 years.
It seems all malls are going empty
Yes, but a lot of malls are still going strong!
that happens when you don't have innovation
They want redeveloped.
Mall rats 4ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still walk around that mall to this day
