I miss malls when they were in their prime. I’m glad I’m old enough to have experienced them and enjoyed the fun of going to them.

Why the hell do these guards care if you're filming or not? The place is going to be torn down within their month. Ridiculous.

I never called it the Harrisburg mall. It's the East mall dammitt!

I miss malls; they are like shopping cities. You're not subjected to the weather. They were great.

I still find it hard to believe that all of these malls and stores are gone. I was never a mall rat as a kid...although I was employed in a business of some sort (or restaurant) in the 1970's while in high school or college. Now in my 60's, I still wonder how people can shop for EVERYTHING on line without the touch or feel of an item like clothing or jewelry. Ordering off line (in many cases sight unseen) just isn't the same for me. But at my age, we don't need to buy that stuff like when we were younger or working.

I’m 28 and I definitely agree not being able to physically feel things and whatnot is a pain. Unless I know it works for me, I’ll usually order from places that have an easy way to return. Like Amazon has free returns and if the thing I ordered doesn’t turn out like I expect, I’ll just return it.
Like I got a thundershirt for my dog from Amazon for the fourth because the fireworks freak him out. If it doesn’t work I’ll just return it after the fourth

Agree...I have the hardest time doing online shopping...I avoid buying a lot of things b/c the thought of having to get in the car to go to a place to return it, is beyond my common sense. Having to watch accounts to get credited for the return etc. I need to see, feel and try on most things I would purchase.

How appropriate that when you entered the mall the Ah Ha song “Take on Me” is playing with the lyric “I’ll be gone in a day or two…”

Enjoyed the walk-through! Interior spaces are neat, clean and well-lit. The interior is in better shape than many malls that are still attempting to remain open.

I went to Harrisburg University few years back and would always drive by Harrisburg Mall. Such a shame how it went from a tradition mall but I guess online shopping and Covid slowly killed the mall. But hey, at least the famous Bass Pro Shop will remain 😂

Will miss that mall. Just moved back to PA just in time for it to close. Went there in 80s, 90s, 2000s. Along with covid its land grabs by investors buying up the land then not caring about the buildings on it and high rent, same reason Red Lobster going under.

That mall probably should have closed in 2004. It used to be a real piece of shit prior to Bass Pro moving in and rescuing the place. I guess even Bass Pro couldn't save the rest of the mall which is unfortunate. There is Capital City which as far as I know is still a very lively mall in the area. I think it is more reflective of the area. The east shore of Harrisburg is terrible while the west shore has been growing.
After the 2004 refresh though the Harrisburg mall was definitely nicer looking inside than Capital City. It's sad to see it go.

What a beautiful mall. When the palm beach mall closed down here in west palm beach, Florida, I only took photos. I wish I had filmed it like you did with this mall. I found your channel today after your Kmart video was recommended to me. Thank you for the walk through. I've subbed to your channel. I love things like this!

In the early 90’s my father was in an accident and spent some time at the Hershey Medical Center about 15-20 mins down the road. I was 17-18 so I would take the car and drive down to this mall just to get out and explore. Just memories that you think of seeing videos like this…..

I am from the Harrisburg area and this was one of the malls I would go to often. I just wanted to comment on something you said in the video about a lot of the stores being closed... Most of the stores were there, open and active until the news was released about the plans for the mall to be torn down and the land re-developed. At that time was when stores started to move out of the structure. That is also why the building is in such good shape overall, because the mall was active. If they wouldn't have decided to re-develop the land I would have no doubt that the Harrisburg Mall would be open for many many more years.

Thank you for this video. I have so many great memories of that mall with my grandma and my mom, from the 1970s through the 1990s. I am absolutely gutted to see it go. As it was one of the few malls left that had little nooks and crannies that you could get lost in . It still had its original feel from the 1970s. even after they updated it in the 90s. I’m glad that capital city mall and the colonial Park Mall are still around. Whenever I get up there, they are usually some of the first places I go to. Haven’t been up in a while though.
Had I known that the Harrisburg East Mall was going to close, I would’ve been up there to do one last walk-through.

Does anybody know what these stores used to be? I’ve been searching everywhere to find answers but I can’t find anything and it’s driving me crazy!
2:48 Two stores behind old Strictly Nails
3:45 Before Bhavani Sports was there, the two stores next to it, and the big, white store
5:55 Two boarded up stores next to 2nd & Charles
6:07 Two stores next to old Koup’s Cycle Shop
12:33 Black store next to old GameStop
12:45 Boarded up store next to it
12:52 Boarded up store next to old Kay’s
Also what was there before A+ Health, Penn Leather, and OooWee were there.
Sorry this was long but I was just curious about what used to be in those spaces.

I guess Covid put the final nail in the coffin for this mail but it was in trouble a long time before that. At one point the owners were so far in debt that another company bought it for $1 promising to take on said debt. I guess that didn’t work out to well.
