I like how both characters are so different yet they want the same thing; to save their special someone. It's just the matter on how you understand the circumstances and situations within the story whether you acknowledge or give humor about it.
the various motivations and reasons by the characters really puts everyone on a grey area.
"The opposite of justice is not evil but instead another justice"
you can see that everyone have their own goals and reason for their actions, and it is by circumstance that they choose which evil or good they are willing to commit putting them at the border between what we deem "evil" and "good" and thats one of the best things about this game
Everyone have depth to their character and they are not some one sided troupe or cheap inserts to the story.
Here we go again with the “Naruto vs Sasuke trope”. These two are like a version of Naruto and Sasuke where they are officially a couple yet
Sasuke wants to save Naruto by going rogue and becoming the darkness of the ninja world, but as a result Naruto will be all alone again.
In defiance, Naruto fights Sasuke to stop him from killing especially leaving his side. 😢

@@namikazenara9379 Give or take maybe. Mei still at least other people to lean on where Otto never did. Dude was basically born a sociopath (due in part to growing up with a shitty family) who had no real connection to humanity outside of Kallen specifically, so when she died he unsurprisingly slowly went off the deep end. Sushang was probably the closest he got to making an actual friend again, but then she got put on ice literally which leaves Otto all alone again.
Otto is solidly implied to be Loki in some way. And Mei is compared to the Devil. Different mythologies, roughly same entity.

if the budget is right and the director knows how 3DCG works, it can be done, most Anime company has weak 3D artist, I mean next to nothing, but gathering all of the best who knows how to do these stuff specially in animation, it's nearly 2D. but it takes time. I"m sure this short movie took them almost 5 to 9months even tho theres a lot of people involved.

Raiden Bosenmori Mei
For anyone wondering, Mei's voice actress is Sawashiro Miyuki, one of the most prolific and talented Japanese VAs ever.
I heard her in a few other games/series. She has a lot of sultry roles and gentle sounding roles.
Such as Izuna in No Game No Life,
Ivy Valetine in recent Soulcalibur games,
And she's the voice of Raiden Shogun for Genshin Impact.
like Yae Miko, Raiden Shogun has some similarities to Raiden Mei, both have similar appearances, surnames and same voice actresses. With both games being developed by the same user mihoyo, these similarities could have a hidden message.
@@sandraseward4139 it's already known that Teyvat is part of the Imaginary tree. So the two universes are connected in more ways than one. The archons so far resemble Herrschers in Honkai. Venti and Wendy, Zhongli and Welt, Mei and Raiden etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pyro archon resembles Himeko. There's also the fact that Otto was observing a dragon image at the end of Chapter 17 which was confirmed to be Dvalin. Raiden Shogun's whole attitude really resembles the Herrscher of Thunder.

It was clearly one-sided at first with Kiana being infatuated with Mei. Only during this fight did Mei realize how much Kiana meant to her.
Mei got super depressed due to the fact she was weak and couldn't save kiana, then she knows kiana has 2 months left, jesus, it's understandable why she does what she does, same thing for raven, she may be a villain, but not entirely evil, mei became a herrscher to give kiana more time to live and cure her in the possible future if she joined the Serpent, the game went from kawaii to GOD OF HYPERDEATH

@@noname-bi2pf Kiana has / had three gems within her, where it accumulates honkai energy (not sure) but it gives her way too much energy that it breaks down her body. The gem of conquest, which was owned by Mei before, is a gem that transforms into the herrscher of thunder core given the right conditions.
Since Mei has the potential to become one, she became a herrscher using the incoming honkai eruption in the city to form the core herself and make the gem inside kiana to dissolve making her condition a lot better than before.

I just got to this today. Holy crap was this so powerful. I feel so bad for Mei but I understand 100% why she did what she did. The two quotes that will make a lasting impact on me are: "The world means nothing to me without you" and "If rescuing you is a sin, then I'll gladly be a sinner". I love this game. So much emotional torment but damn the story IS SOOOO GOOD AAAAAAAAA

I really underestimated Mihiyo when I first tried the game a long time ago. Im glad I gave them a second chance with genshin and that subsequently brought me back to honkai 3rd. I slept on this awesome game for way to long!

miyuki sawashiro nature really showed when she become alpha type xD, mihoyo really give her a challenge when she have to be a girly and very feminim girl, where she is very good at tomboy and boyish voice, but she did a good job when voicing on kannagi anime as mc's childhood friend, but i more love her when she voicing a tomboy or boyish such a shinon on sao
4:30 surely hurts the most. Most Japanese don't use sayonara just simply when you wanted to say goodbye. It give a deeper meaning when you said sayonara to someone. Almost like you felt that you might not met them again. And the way Mei said it to Kiana. It's might be because Mei knew that after this fight, even if they met in the future... They'll be strangers to each other.

It's sad how Kiana still tries to hold back her power from killing Mei knowing how deadly it is. I'm surprised of how Himeko manage to fend of all of that lethal strike.
Don't compare this Kiana HOV with the one himeko against, currently she already lost one of her gems (or 2 I forgot if mei took the gem of serenity too) in this fight (which supply her powers), not to mention the one who fighting is Kiana who still not used with her void power. different with the fight with Himeko as she already has 3 gems and with Sirin took the fight an experiences void user. Her peak form is 6 gems if I'm not wrong in 2nd honkai impact.

Lack of combatants and a capable leader, bad mission plans (thanks a lot, Anti-Entropy), frailty caused by Honkai corruption, the World Serpent... these are the reasons why Kiana lost to Mei.

3rd Herrscher also love kiana. When she awaken 3 years ago she felt same as Mei. She tries end her destructive existence like Herrscher jump from the roof but Kiana strenched out hand both of them Mei and 3th. IF Mei love Kiana then love 3th to Kiana ever stronger.
Their entire relationship feels like another Naruto vs. Sasuke moment except they keep switching roles every 5 episodes.

As shonen cliche this moment is, the build up to it was so good.
The stakes were heavy and well established in the previous 10 chapters, the emotional weight & disstress of Raiden since Arc City was well written and properly paced.
Not to mention Kiana's character development complements Mei's growing despair.
We've seen scenes like this in so many Shonen anime, but this felt so Coherent and flowed so naturally.
... To say nothing of the production value in a mobile game.

I keep coming back for this part 4:16. This scene can be perceived in 2 ways: the first is Mei saving Kiana but the angle looks exactly like the one in the past where she was falling. It can be interpreted as she is falling into despair again like her past self but this time she will be the one who saves Kiana

Dunno why, but that moment after Kiana gets knocked back, and then all you hear is the ping ping ping of her footsteps as she float-walks back up always gets me.
It's gotta be the desperation in that moment. The steps both look and sound unsteady, like she's putting forth every fiber of her being just to remain standing.

Seeing as to how much traction this is getting here's a very scuffed TLDR:
Kiana wants to sacrifice herself in order to save the world, but having too many herrscher cores is also rapidly corrupting her life. Raiden Mei agrees to join an organization called World Serpent in exchange for information how to save Kiana- which is to take back the herrscher core (which Kiana stole while possessed by the Herrscher of the Void), in order for Mei to become the Herrscher of Thunder. Before this Mei had several failed attempts to save Kiana, despite Kiana always saving her and everyone; shouldering the burden of saving lives by herself. Kiana also carries the guilt of a certain instructors death, which is why she's determined to fight alone to the death. Kiana also doesn't want Mei to join World Serpent because she believes there means are immoral, but in Mei's eyes, this is the only thing she can do to save Kiana, who has stood by powerless to save Kiana. The fight being in Nagazora is symbolic because this is also where Kiana saved Mei from becoming the Herrscher of Thunder when they were younger.
The animation is amazing and Hoyo has always done an amazing job translating emotion into motion pictures- but I hope I was able to do this video and lore justice, because there's so much context here that I believe should be appreciated. The weight of Kiana and Mei's reasons for fighting are both understandable, but to see Mei willing to accept defeating and abandoning her beloved Kiana in order to save her- this really takes the story to whole new depths.

(I still geek out seeing Mei transform and those gauntlets form. Same when she flies off with Kurikara into the sky.)
HI3 story is absurdly long and very complex, but just as rewarding if you commit to it. If you view it as a visual novel with occasional action, I think your journey would be a much more expecting one.

Coming back every now and then to watch this, because it's that good. Imo Mei's Japanese VA totally nailed this scene, the visceral pain and desperation in her voice always send shudders down my spine. Coupled with the epic music at the end, A+++
The growth that has happened with Mei is amazing. The fact that she and her herrscher love Kiana so much that we went from this shy quiet girl who always cared for her friends silently to this self-damning women who is not only willing to sacrifice the world for her friend but condemn herself to never actually being with her again. Is astounding. Mei our here showing us what real self sacrifice is for the one you love, that sometimes you have to become the enemy to be their hero.

@Aung Zeya It actually perfectly shows the weight of what Mei's saying too. Sayonara has a certain finality to it, a final farewell as opposed to a "see you later". It better not be as final as Mei thinks.

Happy anniversary to what for me is the best cinematic and conflict exposed within the game, the quality of the visual effects as well as its choreography continue to be the best of CGI in the anime industry, the soundtrack is relentless.

I like how Miyuki Sawashiro portray Mei as a herrscher more than in Chinese. I mean she have a very legit reason to be fuming since she is pretty much a damsel in distress and being useless and not plot relevance for almost the entire game

I don't get it why people's reaction is...bland or tasteless whatever you call it,i kept on coming back and noticed details that many have missed,for example during rhe first scene alone kiana's anger and pain is showned perfectly aa she; powerless and desperate tries to being mei back to her senses and mei in the other hand tried being cold to make kiana hate her while beating her without mercy so when she leaves,kiana is in a state where she hates mei instead of the usual loves her (and thus making their seperate way less painful than it is)
At 1:15 kiana once again used her herrscher power (which shortened her lifespan,again) mei triggered by this (as you can see in her eyes a bit later and later on her disgusted face),also used a bit of her power hoping it would instantly knocking out kiana to end the battle quickly but the strong willed kiana we know instead used more of her power transforming her into a full herrscher,in response mei fully angered by kiana's stupid decision she spit out some of her feelings 2:12 yet kiana showed her true nature and her ties to the kaslana vow(?) Which is to sacrifice one's self for the greater good (2:30),mei who's live was really desperate after ME incident to the point where she almost commited suicied TWICE (both normal and as a herrscher) and saved by one girl,of course she makes that girl as the most important person in her live willing to let the world burn in order to save her while kiana is the one who would sacrifice one to save the world,when to path cross each other mei completly angered by kiana who still can't see the reason of mei's action,unleashed her full herrscher form and STILL hope to simply knock her out (at around 3:00 you can see the pure face of anger from mei and pure face of fear from kiana),at the next moment we can see mei evading ALL of kiana's void attack,this is because she (kiana) intentionally miss her skill (as shown in her face she's afraid,afraid to hurt one of the most important people to her) why did i say this? Tracking back to final lesson when sirin use the void powers ALL of them hit himeko on targed with impressive accuracy yet here it seems that she simply wants to trap mei and talk again (i'm talking about this part 3:11)
At 3:31 you can see kiana thinks she's dead for sure from taking a direct hit yet at 3:36 we can see mei hesitates (or maybe thinking "is this really the only way?")
At 3:39 this hits REAL hard for us GGZ players because we know and experienced how hard it was back then for normal students but at the same time this scene gives sime context to the faces they made during this whole animation,that aside what's with honkai characters telling their true feelings and important stuff when the other character is not listening?
4:23 hits even harder but from this qoute alone we can see mei's determination to save kiana at ALL cost,the best part is that we can feel how mei is relieved by the outcome (good job there miHoYo)
At the end she clearly said "Sayonara" or farewell,this one sentence is only used to those we can never meet again like toward someone who is dying or when leaving a country,this proves that mei is gonna take the risk even if it cost her live (damn like i said before this hits even harder for GGZ players)

one of the things i liked was when mei was pushing the spear out of the way it cut her and slightly ripped her clothes. It was just a good detail.
lots of people mentioned that this battle reminds them of Sasuke vs Naruto. Oh boy, lemme tell you that this is much much more emotional and deeper than that. Sasuke's motivation to leave Konoha is just driven by his ego to seek for greater power and Naruto tries to drag him back because he's a friend, take note that Naruto only knew Sasuke just once, going on mission four or five times before Chuunin exam and that's it, no deeper connection than that.
While of course what made Mei decide to leave Hyperion is to save Kiana from her own ego to shoulder the weight of the world alone which will endanger Kiana's life, but it is ultimately driven by Mei's love to Kiana and vice versa. Kiana at this time didn't trust WS and didn't want Mei to join shady organization whom tried to bomb entire city with Honkai nuclear warhead. Now that Kiana trusts Mei's decision and Mei never falter for her resolution to save Kiana out of love, I think sooner or later we'll witness their heartfelt reunion.
Mei love Kiana and didn't want her to kill herself, Kiana love Mei thus she didn't want her to be part of evil organization. Naruto vs Sasuke's fight was caused by one egoistic decision while Kiana vs Mei's fight driven out of love for each other.
