If i remembered correctly, in Lyney’s story, he invited “Father” to a birthday party in the orphanage where he shows the kids a magic trick and arlecchino appears. Everyone is so surprised to see her even showing up. And they even eat cakes together.
It shows that she really cares about the kids. Even the kids really respects her.

Especially freminet's, who blatantly feels that she made the house of the hearth a haven for its children, says she taught him and the other children to value their lives, that she doesnt hurt them when they fail like crucabena did, etc.

It like the difference between parents who beats his children because he thinks they deserve it, and a parent who gives hard slap to the child because he did something either very wrong or dangerous. Both hurts and both are "striking a child with force to make them feel pain" but one comes from parent who likes to feel sick pleasure of dominating someone, while the other comes from adult who knows that lives is not always as forgiving as this time and "teach" children, who may yet not understand consequence of theirs action that doing such things brings pain and punishments.
After all little pain is the best teacher. No normal human that got harshly burned by flame would be willing to put the hand into it the second time, but it's not so unusual for child to do so beforehand.
“Mother” was killed under the roof of the building that architecturally resembles a cobweb, a detail that is related to spiders and how they catch and kill their prey. That is top tier detail on point to Arlecchino’s character.
I'm thinking does this hint it was mother who killed the pet spider？so arlecchinno revenge in the spider style。

She was a very delicate person and might still be but what i understand from every bit of lore ive read is that she is trying to achieve peace with war. Vengence for love. Since cryo is the element of contraditions it might be something like this but there's so many things we dont know yet

The homophobic localizers in spanish fucked up big time. They translated her title as "Madre", mother, for some stupid reason and Hoyo never made them change that. Well, now we know she goes by "Padre", father becouse she hates her "mother". It's not a gender politics choice, is a character driven one and they ruined it for us spanish peakers. Thankfully a lot of us know a little bit of english.

Just came back here after finishing arlecchino's Quest and i am now 100% convinced that "The Knave" that scaramouche was talking about was def not about arlecchino bout instead about the Crucabena
01:37 The line "Do mothers usually argue with their daughters?" in CN version meant Clervie is Crucabena's (The previous Knave) biological daughter. And the fact that Crucabena said the line at 03:11 about pruning the Lumidouce Bell, Clervie's flower, is simply gut wrenching. She doesn't care if her own daughter dies.
Yeah and the symbolism of the flower is literally lost through the localization. I didn't pick it up at first but when you do it hits even harder. Such a great animated short.

You can tell her arm turned black when Arlecchino was losing the fight, I think the sudden drastic combat ability difference happened because she “released” her curse.
Same curse as Caterpillar or Cater I guess. So think sorta proves that she's a neohuman just like him
@@kamveng453he’s not a neohuman tho. he’s multiple people in a body of a hilichurl, a prototype of sorts for rene’s final plan. neohumans were his first plan, which didn’t work out as not everyone turned out to be compatible, jakob is an example of one. arle’s curse is still a mystery to me, as well as what her connections to the crimson moon and khaenriah are. hopefully they explain all of that in the story quest, tho the trailer didn’t show anything like that, so it’s gonna have to be a very packed quest. at the very least we’re sure to know more about that from her voice lines.

In my thought process, which I highly doubt it this theory I'm cooking up right now. What if she's born of someone of Fontaine and someone who was from Khanriah? The curse of immortality was for pure blooded Khanrian's, but the curse of turning into a monster affected all, including mixed bloods. So what if being born between this union of a Fontainian and a cursed Khanrian slowed the curse of monsterfication on Arrleccino. The people of Fontaine are originally Oceanids water spirits so a half oceanid half khanrian would be something.

For those of you who missed it, the Bulle fruit _(the orange-looking fruit)_ adorned on a sword at 2:51 is a hair accessory of the blonde girl which can be first seen on 0:26, implying that she also lived long enough along with Arlecchino and Clervie, only to die along with her brothers and sisters in a fight their "Mother" forced them into. Truly a heartbreaking reality for them.
Yeah, the moment I saw Clervie (and Bulle Girl - wish we had a name) bond with Peruere, I knew we were in for a world of pain. 😢
I like how Arlecchino, as much as she dislikes Furina for her "uselessness", is so similar to her: both carry their own curse, and care about the people they're meant to protect, although they don't really show it. A big difference however is that where Furina always remained distant from her people so that she could maintain the facade of Archon, and also because getting too attached to someone when you don't have the ability to process the drawbacks of immortality as well as a god seems like a dangerous thing for your psyche, Arlecchino is cold and un uncaring because she already had to kill the ones she saw as her friends and family.
Who said Genshin couldn’t be tragic or sad?
Side note…Bulle fruit or orange we would say, is often depicted in film to show death or loss is about to occur. It’s coined back from the Italian mafia movie the God Father, and is referenced throughout media. Very apt for the name Arlecchino 🤌🏻

2. As 'Mother' held the flowers, she was clearly referring to her dead daughter. "I should have pruned this flower long ago, not waited till it wilts.' (speculation) It could be her planning to kill Clervie before Preuere/Arlecchino killed her
Actually in the CN version the lines did say that she is the biological daughter of "Mother". The EN version just simply doesn't show enough.

Rewatching this after completing the quest is another feeling, more goosebumps..
Something I noticed when Arlecchino was fighting the old Knave and the song started up, one woman's voice was singing and then it was joined by children's voices. It's Clervie and all the children who died under the old Knave supporting Arlecchino to help her win and get their revenge. It's very cool and fits the Fontaine theme.
Also, and I might be mistaken, but that shot of the hole in the ground by the dead tree seems to be where Arlecchino buried her spider. The hole being empty symbolizes that Arlecchino has become the spider and harnessed it's powers to fight the old Knave.
The shots we see of the ruined orphanage are actually direct parallels to the scenes we saw earlier. The tree where they picked bulle fruit cut down, the kitchen now holds weapons. Another detail was the sword that has the ornament on it, the same one that was in the blonde twintailed girl’s hair

Maaan, this whole thing is just so... Are they trying to butter me up? Because it's working!
Glorious subtext moments:
1) The music as Mother tells the story, along with her voice, seem caring and welcoming. While the story depicts cruelty and death. The kids, ignorant of the images, are amazed and happy.
2) "Her curse must be flaring up again." The black fingers being referred to as a curse implies it's either bad for Arle, or makes her more dangerous. Mother just sent her biological daughter to confront an emotionally unstable person while her 'curse' is flaring. The first sign of Mother not caring for her true child.
3) The injuries on Clervie as Arle asks "Do mothers usually argue with their daughter?", paired with the satisfied expression at the well-done bandages, combined with Arle being spotless, implies abuse on Clervie specifically. More maternal hatred.
4) The Lumidouce Bell on Clervie's necklace, giving a possible reason for the maternal hatred: A partner that was taken too soon, perhaps, that Clervie either reminds her of in a bad way, or falls drastically short of.
5) "I heard that in Snezhnaya, the colored lights dance in the sky at night." Arle's BFF here suggests a way for them to escape the pain of their situation, a better life, together. Arle's shocked face at the proposition will come in again later, but already implies a certain amount of hope/listlesness that only Clervie seems to be able to get her out of.
6) Judging from how Clervie is standing up against Arle, and Arle is just standing straight, it can be implied that Clervie impaled herself on Arle's sword. Clervie also seems entirely unruffled as opposed to Arle having blood on her face from someone else's injuries; Not impossible to assume that they teamed up, and that Clervie decided she couldn't live with the situation.
"Thank you." for protecting me. "I'm sorry." for making you go through this/not following our promise.
It's also possible she had someone elses' sword through her, but that doesn't quite have the same Hoyo touch.
7) Rain. Obvious thematics, but can't help but hear the "Hydro dragon, hydro dragon, don't cry."
8) Bloody sword with the orange and crater with the spear to send the message that yes, the other kids fought and died too.
9) The bandages as Arle walks up to face Mother are a mirror of the bandages Clervie used to patch herself up after Mothers' abuse.
10) The music picking up Opera style to hint that Mother is in fact a Harbringer of the Fatui
11) The plushies of Arle and Clervie on the ground, Clervie's dead on her back and Arle's hanging over it, while a syringe on the foreground tells of the experiments that led to the end of Clervie's life and Arle's childhood innocence.
12) Mother holding the wilting Lumidouce Bell, a plant with 3 flowers now down to 2. Mothers' comments serving both as a disparagement of Clervie, and through the symbolism of the flower, Arle's attachment to Clervie.
13) The early stage of the fight is set to highlight Mother being the more skilled combatant, but also already showing Arle's incredible strength through the cracking of the floor, the wall, and the way Mother keeps being pushed back.
14) The clash of Hydro and Pyro, in all accounts another way of Mother and Arle being of opposite natures.
15) "A bird tied down will never leave the nest. You are no exception." - A direct contrast to the happy-sounding (but kinda depressing) song of the beginning; "May the birds soar from their cage"
16) Arle loses a clash of Elements, as Water and Fire clash into a Vaporize right up in her face. Not power, but attribute. She's been fighting like a berserker, and Mother has been having a fairly good time seeing the fruits of her plan.
17) The curse, triggered by not just sadness, but sadness being worked through? (last time seen to advance with the funeral of her spider), advanced as Arle stares at the Lumidouce Belle. The memories, the childhood, the desire to reunite and the parting. The way is long and the gloom is deep, but there are still embers glowing in the hearth, and those who sing the song hope that she will not be tainted by fate. Nothing to fear. Never look back. Go ahead, as the skipped lyrics state.
The curse advances. Arle's emotions settle. Not removed, but controlled, and with her rediscovered cool, pushed forward not by loss but by the sentiments of her fellows;
"Though bones and minds were chained
You cut down the thorns again and again
Your pride will not be slain
From the heart to the veins"
She rises, her (super)natural strength proving more than enough to practically ignore Mothers' relentless assault. And then the children join the song in truth, the latin being something like 'Fate won't end you, this tribulation won't stop you'.
And most pointedly: As Arle's emotions are restrained, Mother becomes more emotional. And ultimately, Arle's cold-minded flames destroy the very foundation of Mothers' pride, before ending her entirely.
18) As Arle is sitting in jail, a snowflake unnaturally waves through the air, showing Arle the Snezhnayan night, with colored lights dancing in the sky. Her face of shock at the sight a direct mirror to the time where Clervie invited her to go see it when they were older.
19) The snowflake being the thing to show her the light and breaking her out of her stupor can be seen as a strong hint that the feelings of hope and trust inspired by Clervie will move on to the Tsaritsa.
20) As the Knave, she adopts the title of Father, vowing to stand in direct contrast to Mother.
Mother feigning care and affection, only to treat her Children with callous disregard, as ingredients to be used. Father feigning aloofness and stoicism, while genuinely caring for those in her charge.
21) Costume design. Especially with the more recent stuff, Arle's tux is a great blend of showing an extreme strictness and being tightly wound up emotionally, while also showing off a butler-esque atmosphere; Of someone who cares, and looks after others. If you look deep enough.
22) The Curse, with its coloration and the lines, really remind of Hilichurls, implying connections to the Abyss. Feels like there's something to Arle of all people being the one trusted with Childe's vision with that in mind. But that's probably reading too much into it.

Just a little note that mother seems to actually use cryo not hydro, in 4:20 you can see that the blade she throws seems to be crystallised? At the edges, making it look more ice than water, making her and arle’s abilities more contrasting, and another comment pointed out that mother uses ice because it looks nice and pretty it’s very dangerous and usually not a good thing, mirroring her demeanour, while arle’s fire looks dangerous, it can represent warmth and the safety that comes along with it, otherwise these are all amazing details so thank you ❤️
I guess the Knave being cursed with whatever is happening to to her arms and causing her to conjure fire without a vision or delusion is how she was able to tell Furina was also cursed.

I think the black thing curse is similar to the one happening to caterpillar from the fontaine world quest, thought it still seems far fetched since it was revealed that caterpillar wasn't just a normal kid, and I don't think arlecchino shares the same curse as him

It's rather interesting to know that Arlecchino's title 'Father' isn't because she prefers masculine titles being androgynous herself, though that may be part of it but not the whole of it. The real reason why she adopted the title 'father' and not 'mother' is because she did not wish to pretend like she cared for the children of her orphanage but would rather appear cold and unfeeling like a typical father while caring for her children deep down.
Which is kind of unfortunate. Other gacha games have actual non-binary representation. You don't trauma into it, it's how you identify yourself. But you can't expect deeper characterization from Genshin I guess, just surface level drama. We'll probably never know more about Arlecchino herself, just more about her past trauma.

3:47 I noticed she has a habit of scraping the ground with her blade a lot, she does that in her normal attack animations too. Really cool attention to detail
I haven’t played the game in a long while so idk what exactly she does. But with this note, my guess is her general fighting style is very hot, very fire, and having a more aggressive style vs the “water mother” who was very much on the defensive for most of the fight.
Scraping the blade was like forcibly creating friction to produce heat in prep for a hot strike

And it kind of seems like the world quest writ large is meant to parallel this scene; with lyney and Lynette believing father has framed them.
Just watched this again and I just noticed the symbolism of cleurvine as the flower that wilted, but never died and was with Arlecchino until the end of the fight. The lyrics of the song made this immensely more powerful too
In the rare case you're looking at the comments section before watching and haven't done Arlecchino's story quest, I recommend you finish the quest first before watching this

I'm so glad I didn't watch this before doing the quest, it would have spoiled so much.
An interesting paralel seems to be how mother use cryo abilities alluding to the beautiful and serene appearance of ice but yet cold and unfeeling nature of it as well whereas peruere uses pyro abilities mimicking her scary and dangerous surface but potential for warmth and growth like a bonfire or a hearthflame
Two fun details:
Elements have meaning in Teyvat. Cryo is the element of misfits; people with two contradictory sides. 'Mother' is a gentle caring parent on the outside but a torturous, child-murdering psycho on the inside. Pyro is the element of inheritors; those who have the torch passed on to them.
Funnily enough, neither of them can be seen with a vision in this animation. Peruere's fist glows with flames inside before igniting, showing the power comes from within and likely from human experimentation. 'Mother' is a Harbinger and likely uses a delusion, explaining why she uses cryo sparingly.
@@PieaterProducts I don't know that your categorization would be comprehensive and therefore accurate. Xinyan isn't an inheritor, for example, she was ostracized and went on her own path. Klee is unknown and I could probably bring up others.
Ganyu and Chongyun may fit the misfit category to a T but Mika and Charlotte not so much. Charlotte is very much in harmony with herself and while Mika may be awkward, he isn't at odds with himself either.
There's always exceptions whenever you try and box in the allogenes.
see, that would make sense.... if she was using cryo. But you can clearly see her using hydro, not cryo, when she forms the blade. If she was cryo, there would have been cold/frost clouds forming around her when she was making the sword, but instead, you hear the sound of flowing water slightly when she makes her blade.

Pyro characters carry a legacy to the next generation, be it family, teacher or concept. What Xinyan did was spread rock and roll to a whole new culture. (Her lore specifically states her deciding to force rock and roll into the culture.)
The other not-so-obvious Pyro users are Thoma and Yanfei. When Thoma moved to Inazuma, his father taught him a new life lesson to always repay your debts. When the Kamisatos who took them in fell on hard times, Thoma refused to run away, following his father's words. Yanfei has embedded herself fully into the laws of the Nation of Contracts. For all practical purposes, she IS the law.
For cryo:
Charlotte's dream is not reporting. She is a master photographer and there is no subject more challenging to capture than the truth.
Mika is a timid, nervous knight assigned to one of the most dangerous posts.
Freminet is also a little tricky. He feels no love for his family, yet when death came for his siblings, he put himself in incredible peril for them. He never told anyone of his heroics while they were unconscious.
Ayaka is also a bit vague. She is a princess who is isolated from her people. She also strives to be a princess that can defeat an opponent in a single strike of her sword. Once she accomplished this feat, her vision appeared.
And just to throw it out there,
Hydro characters are devout to a code or similar ruleset. They have a constant goal instead of a definitive start and end.
Anemo characters are determined to help themselves when no on else will. They are self-reliant.
Electro characters reject reality and substitute their own. They're determined to live their lives in ways that defy the norm and expected course of action.
Dendro characters are self-sacrificial.
Geo characters are stubborn and (usually) have impossible goals.

I love the dark easter eggs laid around the short. the sewn-up bunny doctor with sharp teeth at 0:16 is probably dottore experimenting and augmenting the children of the hearth just as he does with every Fatui soldier. but the “halo” on his head implies the Knave most likely tricked the children into thinking they were just “check-ups” by a “good” doctor

I also feel like at 0:19 we see a sick puppy(?) with a bow and bunny with an orange, and then immediately two girls, one with a bow and closes in the same color as that puppy and another with an orange in her hair; I guess that girl with a bow, the one that dies at Peruere hands, is a sick daughter of "Mother" that couldn't keep up with challenges (scene at 1:34) and whom her mother decided to kill because of that as a "useless flower"
Ooooh I saw that bunny/bat and thought about the same implications with the halo but instantly went to child experiments (especially with the unholy amount of syringes shown laying around), but the possibilty of that being dottore went completely over my head. Would make sense though.

It was confirmed that harbingers are ranked by strength
according to Childe's voiceline about Columbina it's about strength (or more accurately in chinese, ability strength). So the fact Arlecchino killed a harbinger is impressive and explains why she's so high up on the list.

Basically in the CN dialogue, the previous Knave disliked her daughter and choose Arlecchino to be her successor, to become the next King/Knave.
Arlecchino said no, but in the end, she did become the next Knave.
And now Arlecchino wants Liney to be her next successor, to be the next Knave
So its up to Liney if he will do the same thing to Arlecchino, to kill her and become the next Knave.

When humans evolve they are granted power, this has happened many times during the game. Kazuha's fight vs Ei is one example

@@erischan08vii19 Yeah you don't know that many characters in game have curses Bennett for one. Skirk says that everything shall turn into curses. Celestia has nothing against Fatui it's miss understood I doubt they care about them at all. If you notice that her power increase exponentially in one moment from another and it is when she feels true remorse for killing her friend. It's also very likely that it's not her true fate, Khaenri'ahns have Primogem symbols has pupils while Arlecchino has a cross almost like she has been denied her true fate/constellation.
I think she could ended the battle at the beginning but as the “mother” said, innocence and kindness are useless, and arlecchino understood that when she saw that flower and remember her friend so no more kindness for her
