      Hi James - yes it was a great event and nice to get back to some sort of normality and meet people. I am just putting the Grenadier video together now but its a great concept and will be good for consumer choice and competition.

    Simon…your films are always a joy to watch! You have certainly got the most technologically laden tent set up in the Camping Club….not for you the misery of gas lights and a Primus stove. It looks good for a night or two but in a rain lashed storm then maybe you might be a bit apprehensive…also can you touch the walls without leaks coming through…always a worry when we went camping (alright once!) in 1958,!! My Mum was not impressed so we bought a caravan instead? Good work…Carry on Camping!. 😎😎😎😎😎Richard.

    • @L663
      @L663  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes we had a tent - then as the children got bigger we got a caravan... but i think we are heading for "hybrid" camping where we do a night in a hotel then a night camping etc ! Mrs Powerful is yet to spend a night in the tent !

      @@L663 Because of the current germ misery, I have pondered a motorcaravan but that would be a huge leap for Hilary!! My reasoning is at least we would be germ free inside it but the bathroom arrangements are the biggest concern…if we could sort that then an extra long Mercedes Sprinter automatic conversion appeals..but not an “ice cream van” on a Fiat chassis is just not for me…I would buy a set of chimes just to annoy the neighbours when we got home!!!😎😎😎😀😀😀😀😀

    I had that tent for 10 years and used it a lot. The strap is a handle for climbing in or in out but it needs to be slid down to where the bracket holds the poles at the bottom. There should be a strap with a buckle that goes over the mattress at the foot side to help hold the mattress as you fold and unfold the tent. The extension if you choose to but it slide into the other part of the ladder and it doesn’t have to be removed to store the tent. In cold weather a good sleeping bag and perhaps a heater is all you’ll need. I spent several winter nights camping out in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado including in a few snow storms. The cover is very hard to put on in the cold with only one person. My kids were too little to help when I took them camping in it. FWIW I sold my ARB and someone else is still camping in it. We w have a bigger add shell tent, and f ARB made one the same size in a hard shell as my Roofnest Condor XL I would have bought the ARB without considering the others. The ARB I had was impeccable. I also kept it on all year and I only had to replace the cover 3 times. The first was due to me not taking it completely off and it was getting pinched with the tent open. The second time was several years later when it was torn on a limb, and the 3rd when I sold it because it looked bad, but it was still working perfectly.

    To add to your 4-bar-4, towards the top edge at the back, above the ‘juices’, you could put some little hooks (self-adhesive?) from which to hang bags of peanuts, pork-scratchings, crisps (punch a little hole in the top of the bag-seal if they don’t have one… also a little hook for a cloth in case of spillage…

    Hello L663 and Team.
    First and foremost, thank you for the inspirational video.
    FYI, We have a heavy duty BEDOUIN roof tent (cotton) that would need replacing some day soon.
    What we love about the BEDOUIN tent, is the fact that we can also store our sleeping bags up there when folded away.
    Is this possible with the ARB tent?
    (I believe not as it is so compact).
    On a side note regarding the ladders sinking in soft ground;
    The first thing to do before setting up camp is 1. Relax! 2. Open and drink 2 cans of beer! 3. Squash the cans and use as a base for the ladder.
    Always works (coming from a n ADV Motorcycle rider who need to rest the bike in sand)😅

    • @L663
      @L663  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is some room in the folded tent - the mattress remains in there...but not sure there is room for the sleeping bags too !

    Really looking forward for the secondary battery video. In our last camping trip, defender gave low battery warning after our 2nd day (ignition was always off) and after the 5th or 6th day it literally died! I even opened the doors with the actual key and we were so lucky that we had a booster with us. So any of you see a low battery warning please take it serious 😂

    • @L663
      @L663  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Anyway of heating the tent?

  • @grahameroberts8109
    @grahameroberts8109 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the two odd straps in mine but they are low to the ground and sometimes I use them as safety straps when first finding the ladder rung on exit.
    The ‘bar’ is a clever idea but if it’s stocked while travelling you would need a lump of foam to prevent contents damage.
    There are products you can buy to go under the mattress to prevent moisture absorption. You will find the mattress gets a bit wet underneath and will need airing from time to time. Speaking of airing, NEVER EVER fail to fully dry the RTT if it gets moisture in it.
    Finally, you could consider a small gas heater and/or 12v electric blankets. 😀👍🏻🙏🏽😷🦘

    Great video - but the music on the time-lapse was far too loud. Setting the replay level to hear you speak the music blasts out very loud when it starts and needs to be reduced quickly. You just need to get a better balance between the music and speech levels. Excellent video (as always) but with this one thkng that does need adjusting.

    I looked at many tents and decided to go for a cheap one from Prime tech which has been brilliant, our family have had some brilliant times in it with our trusty td5 disco!
    We have mounted it on a Sankey trailer and we’ve been all over Scandinavia and Europe including the Arctic circle and last year we were in the outer Hebrides and Wales…it’s been brilliant. On the Scandinavia trip me and my wife and both boys slept in the tent and around Scotland we even had our border collie in with us! That trip the boys wanted their own tent which made things easier!
    Highly recommend these tent if you like adventure but don’t expect luxury, this one looks the part on the new Defender boys so well done.
