  • The Canon C70 is an incredible camera, even in 2023. Recently we decided to add a rig to our setup to allow for more ease and flexibility for shooting handheld. In this video you'll find all of our favourite parts and the links to them are in the description below.

    Rig videos may be my favorite thing to watch, not gonna lie. You should consider the Smallrig half cage for the C70. I think it'll do everything your Nitze cage is doing but it keeps the hand grip completely free for a much more comfortable hold.

    • @hellotmrw
      @hellotmrw  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've super curious about that one! Have you tried that cage? I think you're right that it would be more comfortable but there is something about having a bit more protection around the side. It saved me once already so now I'm afraid of going without it haha

    Hi! I currently am on week 2 of owning my full c70 rig. Using 8Sinn cage and accessories combined with a lot of SmallRig stuff. I noticed you have the Peak Design tripod in your description-- do you use this tripod with the c70? Additionally, what did you add to the rig/tripod for turning it into a cinematography tripod? I ordered the 8Sinn arca/riser plate but hasn't arrived yet. My concern is lack of a tripod arm, but I do see there are heads available with very nice arms for filming. Have been looking at the Smallrig one.
    I'm also looking at switching my system over to Tilta, Smallrig, or Nitze, depending on what the best option is as I have the DJI RS3 Pro on the way (although I am mostly interested in handheld videography)

    Hey bro great video as always. One question though. How do you manual focus if the handle is in the way? Do you just put your hand completely underneath the camera for that?

    • @hellotmrw
      @hellotmrw  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! The side grip actually sits a little higher up and I don't find it gets in the way at all for manual focus. Actually sometimes it is a great point of contact for my wrist while focusing.

    Hey Maclean! What are your settings for audio with the NTG Video Mic - I've rented the C70 twice, and I've had a hard time dialing in the camera gain and the mic gain - there seems to be a ton of noise if I have the gain set at a good camera level, where the mic itself won't clip. Any thoughts?

    • @hellotmrw
      @hellotmrw  ปีที่แล้ว

      I ran into a similar issue! I've found turning the camera gain to about 2 or so and then relying on the manual knob on the mic itself to be most reliable.

    Great Rig! Do you use most of the time manual focus or the auto focus? If you are using the auto focus, is the mic recording the noise of the auto focus?

    • @hellotmrw
      @hellotmrw  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do use autofocus here and there but mainly for long A roll moments. The mic does pick up the noise a little bit but 99% of the time I have other mics that are my primary source. The on camera mic is often just scratch audio/ambience.

    • @hellotmrw

      No not really. I’m a big manual focus shooter except for long A roll moments so it doesn’t bother me. But if I did need it I would just make sure I set the LCD up to be out and to the side before putting the battery on.

    But everything else in the video is super sweet.
    using v mount + battery grip on my B-cam (R5c)
    The c70 with the big batteries is så crazy for long shoots (6 hours) but V mount is so nice because it goes well with my aputure lights (300X) so its a battery that could be used multiple places in my setup... you video made me think it might work with the flip V mount solution that you didnt like :P
