Other than the somewhat "drab" Genesis graphics (compared to Alien Wars), I agree it's the best Contra game. If only they kept the Japanese challenge settings the game would have been much more fondly remembered in the West. A Contra game where the player had a health bar is difficult for some people in the West to fathom :)
Remember my oldest brother playing the original when i was just a kid on home entertainment system Nintendo n.e.s. ahhhhhhh the nostalgia yes good times.
Hard Corps on Megadrive is still THE best Contra for me. We've played countless hours with friends and finished all possible endings of the game. Graphics were amazing, insane dynamics, many-many inventive boss battles and one of the best soundtrack ever. The game has endless replayability. We played japanese version ofcourse. I still replay it from time to time. I played Contra 3 after that and it felt oh so slow and boring. Even NES Contras were more fun. DS had such a low-low res screen that Contra 4 was unplayable for me. And vertical screen orientation was only good if you have one eye above the other. But as I have standart eyes I prefer wide-screen field of view. C the Contra Adventure on PS1 was somewhat playable. And Hard Corps on PS3.
Although I loved Contra III because I played it on SNES a lot, I was recently able to play Hard Corps in its original version and now it is my favorite and also the best of the saga, the game is really great for everything it offers, it was a shame that Konami decided to change the difficulty for it foreign market.
M2 needs to release a second Contra Anniversary Collection and here are list Contra: Shattered Soldier, Neo Contra, Contra 4, Contra ReBirth, Contra: The Alien Wars for gameboy and gameboy Advance, and Hard Corps: Uprising.
I can relate so much with the feeling of accomplishment I also felt when beating it WITHOUT the 30 guy code. (Of course, the following loops get harder so slowly, you barely notice it until a few loops in and you're like "wait a sec, was there THIS many troops causing this much "slowdown" before?") 🤣 Another fun goal to set for yourself, is beating it around the 9th loop or so your score will "freeze."
The Genesis game is a 16 bit contra and it did things that had never been done before on the Genesis/megadrive while retaining the feel set by the first two games and the game boy title. If you’re looking for one that’s 16 bits it’s a great choice along with the two arcade titles just don’t play contra III.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't find Contra: Hard Corps as difficult as people say it is. I've completed the US version without dying with just about all the characters.
The only one I think I ever played I thought was just about fighting drug rings. I found on the 2nd part of the first level there was a spot just before you exit a warehouse where enemies kept respawning. I used play dough to hold down the fire button and just let it do what it did and ended up with maxed out points.
That new contra game that recently came out something about it I just really couldn’t get into it. The graphics didn’t impress me. The gameplay was solid didn’t feel right and overall just felt, lacking. It looks like a mobile game released for consoles. Funny enough it’s graphics is similar to another mobile game called Contra Returns. Difference is Contra: Operation Galuga doesn’t require an internet connection and isn’t littered with micro transactions and daily login bonuses.
Contra III is fucking garbage, as time passes people will see that game for what it is. It has no level design and is just a never ending onslaught of shit with mode 7 going on the whole time and stretched out enemy battles that break the game, if you’ve beat it you never go back to it because it’s such a pain in the ass to play.
For one, the game I played was under the title Hard Corps: Uprising, so I'd have no idea it was even tied to Contra. Did it include that title in EU or Japan? This was news to me.
Grew up with Hard Corp, still my favorite entry.
Also Hard Corp Uprising is still playable on Series X/S consoles.

Your love of Contra rivals my own and is commendable. Salute!
The original CONTRA VIDEO GAME 🎮 🕹 came out in ARCADES when I was 10 years old back in 1987.💪
One day I’ll get to finishing contra 4, such a great game.
Loved Contra!!
Neo contra was 🔥
This was such a amazing in-depht video about Contra, great job with the visuals and sounds.
Contra 3 Alien wars was the best one.🎉

Paused. Hope Contra 3 Alien Wars is on this list. Unpausing...
Edit: this vid is incredible. Subbed.
Eh. Kinda overrated IMO. I kinda liken it to contra goes Hollywood. I’m a traditionalist. But they are all good fun.
Hope? Lol, let's hope ff6 is on top 7 Final Fantasy list. Of course it will be.
Contra III: The Alien Wars
Super C
Contra
Contra 4
Contra Force (NES)
My top five Contra games!
Contra supar hit game very nice game
I got Uprising for xbox360 and its ..Stunning !
M2 needs to release a second Contra Anniversary Collection and here are list Contra: Shattered Soldier, Neo Contra, Contra 4, Contra ReBirth, Contra: The Alien Wars for gameboy and gameboy Advance, and Hard Corps: Uprising.
Good video but did not resolve my doubt:( xbox360's SuperContra & Contra are the same game storywise? Is it enough buying only one ? thank

Contra 4 on the DS is amazing!
I remember this game when I was a kid
I used to play the first one so much that there were a handful of times I beat it without dying once.
Rebirth and Hard Corps Uprising need to be put on a future compilation. Sucks that they were only available for download.
Grew up in the 80's playing this
Super contra is missing

The was the first original contra before the contra in nes you were talking.
Capcom??? Lol. What?! 20:44
Some information in this video is slightly off track.
(P.S. Super C & Operation C are no slouches either!)
AI voice aside, it's interesting seeing these reviews.
1: Super C
2: Contra: Hardcorps
3:Contra
4: Contra Shattered Solider
5: Contra 4
6: Contra III
7: Contra Rebirth
Top 7 Contra Games
I absolutely adore Hard Corps Uprising. It's such a shame you can only play it on Xbox
I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't find Contra: Hard Corps as difficult as people say it is. I've completed the US version without dying with just about all the characters.
I always considered it a memorization game. Once you learn it, you can tear through it.

You talkin about NARC?
You forgot the Europe version of Contra for NES where everything was changed
Contra games were developed by Konami not Capcom

big mistake buddy...Contra and COD are totally different genres and comparing them is wrong!
Rambo and Commando working together as a team. I'm just saying 😅
Dude, it's definitely about the gameplay. What narrative, even?

Naw that was it's own game inspired by Contra.
@@nefariousmex2352 He showed in the video where it had Contra in the title of the game other places.
