  • Cold, rainy and firing waves with a side of pollution. Would you paddle out?
I love being on the sand in the rain, reminds me of my youth.
Thanks for watching! I'm Brad Jacobson and I'll sea ya on the sand.

Great sessions during the storms. That’s why we had such good immune systems!

fun is where you find it. I hope you never are effected by pollution , because part of the deal is one never really knows what exactly made you sick. it could be biological or something chemical that the body can't process well , so it get stored when removed from the system, , for possible bad effects later on when more crud enters the body.

Your immune system evolved to handle organic, natural threats, not man made chemicals. Hence the steep rise in cancers and other pathologies.

I learned my lesson at SB last fall. It was 2 days after some precipitation the Hazard signs were on the beach. Couldn't resist the fun,...and caught a 3 day ear/stomach thing of sorts. I'll wait for the clean up session for cleaner water. Enjoy your content Brad!

I was heavily regretting not going today but this makes me feel better about my choice

Been out many days at SS Seal after and during a storm, paddling through shoes, tennis balls, trees, and whatever else was floating around. The occasional ear infections were a small price to pay for the excellent barrels.

Grew up islands, and any time it’d rain, we’d “play rain”. From running and sliding down gulley washes, to playing tackle football at da park. Biggest worry was sharks in murky water. 🤙😊

Water's fine just ignore the contaminants heavy metals and fire debris. It's perfectly fine! Everyone can use a few extra toes.

Thought about heading out this morning, but decided not to (story of my surfing life), then I looked at the El Porto live cam and there were about 20 people in the rain having fun, and I wondered if that was you dressed in black standing out in front of the snack shack looking at the waves.

I bodysurf.... so i'm "really" in the water the whole time... I'm planning on going to Will Rogers this weekend, when it opens ups because PCH is closed at the moment, but I'm weary of the pollution...

I learned my lesson , as usual, the hard way. The weather looks so nice and clean after a rain, it is extra nice to go to the beach and see the clean vistas.
but a couple of times going in the water and getting mild flu like symptoms for a couple of days afterwards was enough for me to learn to avoid such an insult to my body. remembering what Laird Hamilton wrote , "Once you loose your brain transport system, you are truly screwed". something like that. I value my health, so logic tells me to avoid polluted water.
I was once down in Orange County looking at some questionable waves that I knew would shape up if I went out, but there was also a large ship nearby. I knew from my sailor days how dirty ships are, so asked the lifeguard who suddenly appeared at my side if there were any showers around.
he answered in a thick Australian accent, " no, it's irritating". I was impressed by his mastery of communication and returned to my car.

Me too (learned the hard way). Pure ignorance & hanging with a keen surf pal who surfed in anything. I live near a big bay with lots of toxic urban runoff (though it happens, big time, in agricultural environments as well). All the older surfers here know.
