When Kratos rejects Odin's proposal for peace with a simple "No." It's by far his most badass line in the whole saga. Man waltzs into another pantheons realm, tears shit up, makes the gods of that realm so terrified of him they're willing to forgive him murdering multiple members of their family just so he doesn't even interact with them. And he declines. Out of principle too. His loyalty to Freya, despite her actively trying to kill them both. Man is completely unshakable in his resolve and his principles.

Sad story time: My dog got really sick and stopped eating a few days before this game was released, so I didn't play on release day, as I was quite distracted. We had to put him down the day after release, and I started this game less than an hour after burying him. Suffice it to say I needed a break after that opening scene with Fenrir. First time I ever cried at a video game, but it wasn't the only time this game got the waterworks going for me. The raw emotion packed into the cutscenes of this game is just one of the many things that makes this game so special to me.
The cinematic with Thor and Odin is so well thought out. In GOW 2018 we hear so many stories about what type of person Odin is. His greatest weapon is manipulation. And they do a really great job of showing that. All his mannerisms are all planned. He sends Thor to make sure kratos is a "calm and reasonable person" before showing up himself because he knows Kratos is THE god killer. And from the moment he enters the scene, he tries to manipulate kratos by saying he was acting in self-defense when killing Magni. But I think that by trying to seem sincere, he also shows what a horrible person he is. I mean, he openly says how usless the sons of Thor were IN FRONT OF THEIR FATHER, and he is only upset at Kratos for killing Baldur because he was useful and "his best tracker." Both Magni,modi, and baldur were Odins family with baldur being his son, and he talks about them like objects for his own use. And finally, when Odin realized that kratos can not be manipulated, he tasks Thor with destroying him, and that gives him time to instead manipulate Atreus, who is younger and more pliable to suggest. Also when Mimir said "If he tells you snow is white he's lying" really explained Odin as a character. Their is always a motive behind everything he says, and Mimir should know having spent so much time around him. (Sorry for nerding out)
I love that. It is the same as how I interpreted the scene too. All of Odin’s mannerisms and how he looks are all deceiving to make his enemies let down their guard. He is the complete opposite of Thor, with Thor being a fighter while Odin is a talker and schemer. Yet despite all of Thor’s strengths, brutality, and the most powerful weapon Mjornir, Odin feels far more dangerous and sinister. He is also trying to get Thor, his own son with the woman he loved, drunk just so that he can have an easier time manipulating him is a testament of his true nature.
I absolutely love the direction they took Odin in this, being more of a mobster than a classical god. He even uses some of the same vernacular and has the same melody in his speech as a gangster boss
@@morepower6800Nah, maybe not as feared but much more hatable. I never thought he was joke throughout the game, I always got an icky feeling of manipulation with Odin. He isn’t as overtly domineering as Zeus, he’s more cunning in how he controls people which honestly makes a lot of sense considering he’s supposed to be a god of immense wisdom and cleverness
I love that you read through the journal entries on camera. The only gripe I have about most playthroughs I've watched is that they cut them reading it and just talk about it after, but I love watching you read it because I can watch all of your micro-expressions, and remember what it was like to play this game for the first time!
One of the funniest parts of Kratos' dream with Faye is that she just hefts up that tree trunk like it's nothing. I think his view of what mortal women could do was skewed, because normal, human women wouldn't be able to pick that up like a feather. That apparently wasn't a sign that she was more than human, but I personally would've been just a little suspicious!
I mean, she literally went toe to toe with Kratos and came to a draw, he really should have expected she wasn't mortal. One of the few things I "humm" at in these games.

That said, its not like there weren't similar warriors who could give Kratos a decent fight in the Greek games. And considering the fact that demigods are not that rare in Greece, it was probably pretty normal for Kratos to see another mortal with the strength to pick up a tree. Hercules was one.
You can already see..what kind of "Dad" Odin is.. We remember how angry Kratos was... all those years ago. And Odin...only talks about "business" and how useful a person is. He spoke of Baldur as an employee. Not like a son. Odin is an imperialist and only cares about himself. He is like the Palpatine in North Mythology i guess.

I've never noticed until now how much they make Faye look like Atreus, the clothes, the build, even how she walks and stands - so much detail that I'm only seeing now thanks to your playthrough Mati 🙏🏼 Alsom rando QoL tool they added - in the menu there is an auto pick-up option, might save your butt instead of having to mash X trying to pick up health in a fight, you just gotta run over it, or any other item.

The structure created by Mjölnir and Kratos axe during the fight is actually a culimation of the two powers of the weapons. The lightning literally froze solid and remained trapped in ice.
For some reason every playthrough I’ve seen of this game, players fail to realize that the “tree” is just a frozen thunderbolt from the axe and Mjölnir clashing
Ragnarök does an absolutely awesome job with leveling up the gameplay of GOW 2018, especially when it comes to the variety and complexity of boss fights. You're in for a treat.
You can see a lot of differences in this game. First the codex which is written by Kratos (and someparts from Mimir also I think). In the realm between realms if you notice the Ygdrasil tree its more bloomed. And also when Kratos nad Thor were fighting in the third phase that wasnt Ygdrasil. It was frozen lightning from their weapons when they hit its other
I think one reason why Kratos declined Odins offer to keep Freya off his back, is because he understands that at that moment, the only way he could do it is by unaliving Freya. Other reason because Mimir said he can't be trusted.
Thor is voiced by Ryan Hurst. He plays Gary Bertier in Remember the Titans and Opie in Sons of Anarchy. He’s also Beta in The Walking Dead. Josh Brolin is the actor for Thanos. He plays the military advisor guy from Sicario and the older brother Brand in The Goonies.
So much to digest in the first hour or 2 of the game Freya going for the kill and that guttural scream Faye finally showing up Atreus’s powers Odin being a mafia boss And Thor being a giant threat, even killing Kratos on a fair 1-1 which is impressive on its own considering the times kratos died before were by a giant stone arrow and being absolutely dried up of all his power
I remember when this came out 2022. Absolutely incredible. I had 4 days off for this. Beat it in that time frame. Truly incredible. Also meet Thor. The REAL THOR! Also Thor is voiced/no capped by Ryan hurst. He played Oppie in Sons of Anarchy.
Mati- one setting you can change that helps during the chaos is auto-collect (or whatever they call it). So you can just walk by a health stone and automatically pick it up, rather than trying to hit the button mid-combo, while dodging enemies.

This is the most accurate Thor ever depicted in media: a big, fat looking drunkard, but undeniably stronger than just about anyone. Odin is the most interesting design idea. Instead of making him look big and intimidating, making him look and sound like a shady car salesman was an absolutely genius idea. Perfect for a man who tricks and lies to anyone. Also when Mimir mentions the snow thing, what he actually means is that Odin often tells the truth, but he tells it for his own purposes.
I found u after i completed gow ragnarock and was checking for some playthrough of gow series but i wanted to watch someone play the series from the start. As i wanted to see the person feeling what i felt after playing the game and knowing kratos past. As there are many youtubers that are actually playing the game but not in chronological order. A friend of mine borrowed me a physical copy of this game but I only played like 40 mins (after a month lol I was very busy at that time) and I had to give him his game back. So I am clueless about what happens after that so this will be a fresh experience for me as well!

The structure created by Mjölnir and Kratos axe during the fight is actually a culimation of the two powers of the weapons. The lightning literally froze solid and remained trapped in ice.
For some reason every playthrough I’ve seen of this game, players fail to realize that the “tree” is just a frozen thunderbolt from the axe and Mjölnir clashing

Ragnarök does an absolutely awesome job with leveling up the gameplay of GOW 2018, especially when it comes to the variety and complexity of boss fights. You're in for a treat.
You can see a lot of differences in this game. First the codex which is written by Kratos (and someparts from Mimir also I think). In the realm between realms if you notice the Ygdrasil tree its more bloomed. And also when Kratos nad Thor were fighting in the third phase that wasnt Ygdrasil. I think one reason why Kratos declined Odins offer to keep Freya off his back, is because he understands that at that moment, the only way he could do it is by unaliving Freya. Other reason because Mimir said he can't be trusted.

Mati- one setting you can change that helps during the chaos is auto-collect (or whatever they call it). So you can just walk by a health stone and automatically pick it up, rather than trying to hit the button mid-combo, while dodging enemies.

This is the most accurate Thor ever depicted in media: a big, fat looking drunkard, but undeniably stronger than just about anyone.
Odin is the most interesting design idea. Instead of making him look big and intimidating, making him look and sound like a shady car salesman was an absolutely genius idea. Perfect for a man who tricks and lies to anyone.
Also when Mimir mentions the snow thing, what he actually means is that Odin often tells the truth, but he tells it for his own purposes.

I found u after i completed gow ragnarock and was checking for some playthrough of gow series but i wanted to watch someone play the series from the start. As i wanted to see the person feeling what i felt after playing the game and knowing kratos past. As there are many youtubers that are actually playing the game but not in chronological order. But as i was searching im glad i found your channel i am enjoying your gow series from the start watching it since you were playing gow 1 and am very exited to watch you play this game.
