I have one of my late grandmother's 12cup farberware percolator with the glass not plastic knob its still brand new never used in its original box and its 56 years old
never wash the inside of the pot..rinse only. it gets seasoned like a cast iron pot only with coffee oil..thats a big difference than some paper filter coffee
I have been using the 2-4 cups Farberware pot for years. Makes great coffee. I have a newer one from the 80s and inherited my aunt's from the 60s. That's the one I use as I like having the glass thing on top. Also, the older ones were made in the US. Not any more.
I have serveral perculators by Faberware. All older as I inhertited them from my grandparents house and a freind's house after they passed. Never had an instructions. I use the filter discs but had never heard of wetting the baskets. They really last a long time as they are so simple and well made. I also like that hotter coffee from a percolator over a drip machine.
@@realmccoy7632 There is really no mechanical parts to it. Just a heating element in the bottom that stay dry under the bottom and a simple thermostate that turns it down to keep warm after reaching full heat during the brewing.
I made six cops and I think it was done in about seven minutes six or seven minutes it was real quick. I was quite impressed. Smelled the kitchen up beautifully
Thanks so much for this video. I had inherited a vintage 60's Farberware Superfast Perculator from my mom. It's still going strong and brews a great cup of coffee. I wet the basket first as you have specified and didn't get the grounds in the coffee.
This makes great coffee ☕️ better than many drip coffee makers I keep trying. I am done ✅ this is good. I have purchased so many coffee makers didn’t know I wanted a percolators taste that is what I like.
I picked up this model fairly new in the box at a yard sale for cheap. Thanks for the easy tutorial. This is going to be my camping coffee pot. Can’t wait!
I have an 8 cup model of the same brand. I've used drip makers, Keurig units, and French press coffee makers, and I have to say that the percolator makes the best coffee out of all of them. I have a stovetop model as well, and it makes a great cup of Joe too...
It certainly does and look how simple and look how we don’t need to buy filters and look out. We don’t need to stress over it. We can just put our coffee in there. I’m using organic coffee. I grind the beans fresh. I do that because I like it but you don’t have to do anything that you don’t want to. This is certainly less expensive And the only reason Starbucks is made so much money. I think it’s because they have capitalized on people, liking sweets and cream and all of that stuff in it. By the time you put all that and you can have the worst cuppa coffee ever and make a caramel macchiato out of it and it’s delicious but look at the calories look how expensive that is I mean this right here is absolutely satisfying. it’s delicious it has the aroma. I’m looking for the color and one thing I like it’s clear coffee is Clear not muddy looking
On a second date and we didn’t know how to use my parents percolator. Neither of us have used one before. Not a coffee drinker personally. Super useful. Thank you
I just bought one and I have never in my life used a percolater so this was very helpful. I'm hoping this lasts a good long time and that it's a style I'm happy with. I'm okay with some grounds at the bottom. We could even get some sort of pour over system for the last bits if it's a real problem later down the road. I was interested to hear that there are "donut shape" filters. I may look into that as well. Thanks, Sir! Kendra near Seattle.
@@kendrafullofjoy I read another comment that filters can remove the antioxidents by taking the oils out of the coffee and also never have tried wetting the filter basket. The disc filters are hard to find locally as I have only seen them at one hardware store and on Amazon.
I like Mine! I want 6 cups worth; Fill to "6" mark with water; a paper filter in the basket,(wetted); 6 Tbsp. coffee in the basket(evenly distributed); Close it up, Plug it in, & walk away... Works like a Champ!!
So this happened. We bought this exact one and today we used for the very first time. I did it all wrong I put coffee grounds in the top basket 😂 and yes we got lots of ground on the bottom. We knew something was not right. Glad I came across this video. Thank you so much for the lesson.
Thanks for a solid How To video. I rediscovered mom's Farberware 12 cupper and it seemed to work fine without a filter, but never specifically moistened the basket before and apparently have only used 1/2 the usual amount of coffee. So am brewing tonight with 12 tablespoons of coffee. Hey, if it's too strong for me, I add milk anyway to smoothen it out for my throat & stomach.
I got one for wedding present in 1978… then bought 2 after kids knock it off counter.. I use a French press most mornings.. but the ol percolator tastes hottest and best❤
I just gave a thumbs up after watching your video. I just brewed 6 cups in a Cuisinart Percolator straight out of the box that someone at work gave me a couple weeks ago. Anyway it works great! I love it. I should have used it sooner 👍 only difference is mine has a light at the base that comes on when finished brewing
great demo. I just purchased from a second hand store and wasn't sure how to use the two filters. Thought maybe one was for less coffee, but per demo is the lid.
Would love to see you do a head to head competition of a vintage Farberware (made in the USA) versus a newer model made in China and compare brew times and temps and flavour profile. I think some of the newer cheaper made machines are perking way too fast and compromising flavour for speed.
I have the early model of the same 12 cup percolator that was made in NYC. It looks identical except the top is a see through plastic knob to watch the coffee doing it's thing. Brew time is about the same and the finished temperature is 187 F. There is only a two prong plug as opposed to this newer one that included the ground.
It is nice to see how a perc is suppose to be used. I on the other hand only use mine when I need something close to tar that will keep me up for days. I have an older one that heats up really fast so that short cord gets hot quick. I am guessing the newer ones have backed off on the power for safety reasons and therefore slowed the brew time down a bit and didn't see the need to lengthen the cord.
I bought the Mixpresso percolator on Amazon & it perked twice, then it stopped perking. I kept trying with water, no coffee grounds and it boiled the water, but didnt perk for 4-5 brew cycles. (BTW--the water is HOT) . I tried again, making sure the percolator stem was down in the "hole" making good contact with the heating element, & now it perks perfectly everytime! 😅 The coffee is hot & delicious. 😋 Guess the pot just needed a little coaxing--- don't give up too quickly.
The instructions confuse me in their manual when I got mine. It says standard coffee measure is 2 table spoons , so is that 2 tablespoons per cup? Because I see you did 1 tablespoon per cup and other videos people did 2.
Great video!! Thanks for posting. I find for instant coffee, it says 1 TEASPOON per 6oz of water, and that’s the strength I like….for my French press, I use 3 rounded TABLESPOONS of ground coffee, and it is a 6 cup French press, and that, gives me the SAME strength. On my percolator(same as yours), I go in between the 8 and 10 cup mark, for 9 cups, and I add 4 slightly rounded measuring tablespoons, that gives me 4 regular average coffee MUGS of coffee, with just a little splash leftover, for the dregs, lol..that way all the brew strengths are same, no matter the brew method/instant.
I have one similar to that it's a old one from the 70's you don't get to many coffee grounds from it if you do they usually sink to the bottom of your cup makes good coffee ☕ 👍
This might be a silly question… but does the coffee get submerged in the water before you turn it on? I’m wondering if it could be prepped the night before without anything spoiling.
Are you able to still use it without the "separator" ? I found a Farberware 47053 In brand new condition at a thrift store for $3, but I'm now seeing it's missing the top part after you add the coffee grounds. Wondering if that part is simply to keep any ground from your coffee mug while you're pouring?
OK, so you know it is done when the noise stops? But you leave it plugged in at the same temperature to keep it hot? Doesnt that result in over-cooking the coffee after a few minutes? Would be nice if the temp could be turned down but not off after it is done. No on-off switch seems a little inconvenient.
🌴 Much easier to put coffee into the basket before placing in the maker. I use a round paper filter on top of the basket lid. Eliminates coffee grounds in the coffee. I mix coffee flavors gives a delightful fresh smell and taste. Good coffee and don't use cream. A southern way. 😎

I don’t see that he answered ur question so being I have this model (mine is a FCP280 ) and have been using it for 15 plus years I think I can give u advise that may help. Okay so I used to go back n forth with using and not using the paper filter inside the basket. I no longer use it. I found when u use the paper filter the coffee always came out weak and light. I don’t know if that is what ur doing or not but that is one thing that def caused weak coffee in mine. Also don’t use a lot because I found that if u do most of that coffee grind is just wasted. I use an actual measuring spoon. I have a long metal one ( 1tbsp ) and I do exactly 1/1 ratio of scoops to cups of water (cups marked inside machine not actual measurement cups as they are much different) and it comes out good. Hopefully this helps

Don't see why not but the water might have a slight metallic taste to it. That plus it takes longer to boil up vs a regular electric kettle.
Consider using unbleached filters (brown ones) the white ones have a bleaching agent!
filters remove the coffee oil..the antioxidents are beneficial

Check on eBay sometimes you can find them there

I always make a full pot, so I don't care about those numbers, all else is just good on this one.
What if you fill it with milk instead of water???
Then you'll have scalding hot milk. And the pot stays hot
for a very long time
after unplugging it.
