Works good. I had a basket clogged with coffee buildup. Scrubbing couldnt get it out of the tiny holes. The baking soda did a great job of loosening everything up. Still a little residue on the hard to reach edges. As they say it is good enough for government work thank you!

@@DiyRick66 2 hits of the baking powder and one of the vinegar and the basket is near spotless. Had my first cup of coffee with it right afterwards. Used less grinds too. This solution is quick and simple.

This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

I'm glad your method worked. We just tried using "dental cleaning tablets" and that worked like a charm.
We used 8 tablets with hot water and soaked the stainless steel carafe and 4 tablets in stainless steel mugs overnight and the next morning it was as clean as a whistle. We just rinsed the pot and mugs and just couldn't believe how thorough this method worked. Nice to see your method thanks for putting this up!

I have the exact same percolator. I clean mine thoroughly after every use and every once in a while will place the internals in the dishwasher. They come up as new. Someone (not me) almost emptied the pot and left the percolator on all day. Coffee was baked to the bottom. Easy fix!!! I filled the pot full of hot water and stirred in a dishwasher soap capsule and left it soak over night. A quick rinse was all it took. I did run a full cycle of water through it clear any soap residue.

I have a tip to offer too...... When you're drinking coffee and you get down to the last cup or 2,unplug the pot unless you're going to drink the last of it fairly quickly. When the fluid levels drop, the flavors start to concentrate, cook onto and collect onto the heating element causing bitter taste. I have the habit of leaving it plugged in, but no more. I'll heat the last of it in the microwave from now on.
Thanks so much for this tip!

This worked great. If you have a thin bottlebrush (I use the one that came with my aluminum drinking straws) it works great to clean the stem, the center stem of the basket, and inside the spout. Mine is long enough to go the full length of the stem, but I would imagine a shorter one would work well if used from each end of the stem. I like to do a third rinse to make sure no traces of vinegar remain (this is important if you use cream - the vinegar will cause it to curdle).

I wonder if this would work with an Italian Moka pot. Always struggled to get the scale off the bOttom piece and the stains out of the upper body. I used to soak the pieces overnight in baking soda solution, with little effect. Maybe the heat would do the trick. I no longer have it, my son took it when he moved out, I now have a corning glass old fashioned percolator, and the glass is easy to keep clean.

It is important that the bottom well be free of sediment and also the connection to the tube and the well be sealed well. In my instance I the coffee was coming out weak and thought the thermostat failed. No, it just needed a really good clean. Percs great, rich coffee now and using much less coffee.

Please explain why you're all using paper filters. My mother always used her Farberware Electric percolator basket as is with no filter inserted, as do I. If you're going to use a paper filter, use the natural brown undyed ones. If you're using it to keep the grounds out of your coffee, it's not necessary. Just wet the basket first and carefully fill with coffee grounds. I suppose cleanup might be a tiny bit easier with filters - seems like a waste of money to me.😊

First off, I would use 1/4 c LEMON JUICE from the bottle. This is with all coffee makers. Salt can also be used.
I do want to know what the white "calcium" looking stuff is in rhe older perc makers is. It's always in that iron dipped hole area after each use, even after rinsing and drying. Had it everywhere I lived. Is that minerals from the water? It's hard to get rid of it everyday.

    2 things
    1) why not do vinegar for the first run and then baking soda for the second run . This way the baking soda can neutralize any acidity.
    2) your percolator has a sealed electric prong ❓ I just bought a presto 12 cup stainless steel electric percolator and it says not to get the plug wet or let it dry before using..... ( and I'm hoping that this is not going to be a pain).

They have a new invention, only a few hundred years old, called soap and elbow grease, if used after each pot brewed your pot will stay nice and bright and clean.....and your coffee will taste better too.

I have another problem which I don't see listed here. I've had my Presto coffee percolator for about six months, but now I've noticed that the plug is very loose where the contacts come into the actual pot. What can I do? I can get another plug but I'd rather not, if I don't absolutely have to. Can you please help me?

I just put the internals in a bowl with a couple denture cleaning tablets and soak for a couple hours. Also put a couple in the pot to soak. Then clean off with a sponge. Makes clean and bright again with little effort.

I've used this type of Presto coffee pot for years...the longest one lasted was 22 years...the shortest was just a couple of years. Why the difference? How I plugged the unit in. If I plugged it in at the pot, it would spark just a tad and after a couple of years, it ate away the contacts, so I plug it in at the outlet only....22 years later, still going strong!

Does it matter if you run the vinegar through first, and then the baking soda cycle afterward?

I was in the middle of cleaning my percolator with vinegar and water when I thought maybe I should do a search and this video came up. I followed up with another round using the baking soda. It didn't look the cleanest, but then I remembered that he had also wiped his down. After using a toothbrush and a dishcloth it looked pretty impressive. I did do a third rinse just to make sure that all of the vinegar was removed.

Just asking': How does a nice person like you manage to get his coffee pot THAT dirty?
I wonder how your method would work if the baking soda and the vinegar were added to the pot at the same time and run through just one cycle.

The discoloration is not DIRT, or true grime, it's dark due to the beans and coffee grounds. Don't have a cow, man. M, il.

Soap hot water & wipe out or brush Everytime used to remove left behind oils etc you should be fine. If not use this method periodically. 😉🤞

Mine has a glass top & I cant figure out how to get that part clean. I've been using oxyclean & hot tap water about every two weeks (I only make coffee in my 2 days off each week). Going to try cleaning it with the percolator engaged & see if it cycles through the lid part. Thanks!

I don't believe this video shows the bottom of the percolator being "submerged". Submerged would be completely IN water....getting sprayed with water is not the same as submerged.

    • @michaelm6948
      @michaelm6948 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ldlink3935Submerged is the wrong word. The electric element on bottom is not submersible, it will short out. But allowing the very bottom to contact water without submersion will cause the removable screws on the bottom to rust (this is the case with the Presto 12 cup I use).

Good vidio..... Not to be a downer....But the pot should Not be in the sink. Electric out let should NOT get wet. Best way too is to use a little elbow grease Brillo pad.
