I’m in the same boat, got my fiancé into planning and now he’s a changed man - so much more organized. He uses the Moleskine XL Weekly and is totally in harmony with that system, so I don’t want to disrupt this fabulous symbiosis with Hobonichi (got him the Denali notebook for commonplacing though. 😄), but I absolutely love flipping through his pages - similarly, they are mostly functional, but when he wants to highlight some joyful events, he draws and doodles them and it is just so heartwarming to me 😄 like when we went skiing, he drew a giant ski slope with colored pencils across all the days and it looked so good

Thank you to your husband for sharing this with us. It’s really nice seeing how “normal” planning people use their notebooks. I love seeing my mum’s planner for example as it’s just full of random notes and post its and she doesn’t care what it looks like. ❤️
My wife shared this with me, I started writing my thoughts or keeping a journal this year by getting into TN, which lasted a month and a half before I realized that I preferred writing on A5 notebooks..on my third notebook now for the year.
I am planning to get into hobonici for next year, where I am hoping to bring some routines to keeping weekly plans actually written down. 😅 crossing fingers

I just love the fact that he's willing to share, especially since the planner world seems to be flooded with women and focused on the aesthetics of the thing.
His also looks a lot like mine - which pen is at hand? What needs jotted down here? Oh, I need to put down an appointment in like a month, let's flip there... The practicality of the thing tends to get lost in what it's "supposed" to look like, so seeing that being ignored in order to focus on function is refreshing. (Even though I completely agree that his handwriting is spectacular!)

@@samplans Oh yeah I remember that video. I used to reference it when I felt overwhelmed with all of the planner things. It reminded me that I don't need all the things to make my planner work. This video came right on time for me because I decided to use the Hobo Cousin for 2025.

Fortunately/unfortunately I’m about like Rick🎉 scratch out stuff, use two or three different pens daily ( whatever is close) I DO like to decorate like you do ( front and back inside cover) but I KNOW my writing is inconsistent (different styles) I’m NOT a neat person tho I try. Watching your videos has helped a lot on how to set up my weekly pages ( Hobo Weeks) but overall, it’s really about getting things on the page!🎉 Sometimes I do the weather, sometimes I don’t and it doesn’t bother me until I see yours and others and then I think…I really should try harder! 😂. Thank you for sharing and tell Rick thanks also! ❤

I love this! I’ve been using planners for 33 years (freshman year of college) and journaling for 32 years, minus a few years when I stopped to write fiction instead; now I do both.
Now, I write in mine like it’s going to be on social media. I need to go back to the functional way I planned before social media. I’m starting that with a Hobonichi A6 Avec I’m trying for work.
