    • @Vyz3r
      @Vyz3r ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Only issue with it is that once you separate the pages, it'll be difficult to put them back together and now you have to make another hole next to the other big hole if you want to staple them again.

    • @rydergolde3169
      @rydergolde3169 ปีที่แล้ว +77

      @@Vyz3r I mean, if you're gonna be separating papers then you're probably not gonna staple them normally, it'd be better to use a paperclip or even a binder clip, depending on how many papers you have

    • @Vyz3r
      @Vyz3r ปีที่แล้ว +50

      @@rydergolde3169 Have you never experienced times when you or somebody else needed to remove staples to fix/copy a paper and then staple them again? As someone who worked in an administration office, this is quite common. A stapler like this would not be use after the few times because it ruins the papers.

    • @rydergolde3169
      @rydergolde3169 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@Vyz3r no that's fair enough, I didn't consider needing to make copies after smth was stapled.. ig I'm just still a bit used to papers in school having the diagonal mark from where it was folded over for copying

    • @Pavlinka__
      @Pavlinka__ ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@Vyz3r There are stapless stamplers that don't make such a gigantic hole and are made for easier separation if the papers need to be separated. it's like 0,5 cm line, so it's not all that visible and if you reapply, it's still fine. it's also kinda possible to reapply it on the same spot but it's less strong of a hold when you do so.
      i don't like the stapler shown in this video at all. it's such a big hole. would be way better making that manually, with smaller slit.

    Although some of these tools are limited in their capability, the ingenuity is impressive. I remember waaaay back in grade school our teacher showed us how to bend a few pages at the corner and manually tear a small strip of the sheets back the other way, which was a form of staple-less stapling. • @MollyHJohns
      @MollyHJohns ปีที่แล้ว +72

      Edit; TLDR; JUICERO. Period.
      As a passerby, imo, over engineering happens when mundane everyday things that can be operated directly by hand needed extensive and complex AI and wiring system, specific software that only works for it, needs firewall, link to other electronic devices, WiFi, personal ID, and/or battery power or electric source to work, can only do one thing and one thing only, can't be used with pirated accompanying products, and exclusive/special branding, that leads to the insane price hike only rich and idle people can afford. Stupidest example that ever exist for this is, Juicero. You can't deny this one.

    The Stapleless Stapler is a very practical one; I had a much cheaper one that was given out freely at some conference, and used it for years until the sharp edge dulled too much and couldn't punch through paper anymore. It was a novelty of the time, but I got good mileage out of the cheap one I got for free. I should consider the Japanese version for smaller paper sets.
    As for the Protractor Ruler, I recall those being half-gimmick half-functional items sold in the early 00s as school supplies. I had one similar, but the issue with it was that it didn't have a smooth straight-edge; having a curved dip where both ends meet when straightened out. It also didn't protract very well, since it slid pretty loosely. The Japanese version fixes all the issues with the basic one I had except for the arcs, which the version I had did a great job of doing (but in inches).

    I have an American version (inches but with cm on one part) of the folding ruler and it’s super helpful because I can keep a full length ruler in my pencil bag. Comes in handy for strait lines and occasionally angles but not as good for that. Haven’t been able to find any more in store since I bought mine though. :/

    Make sense for japanese stationary to be over engineered because to these very day, paper works are still a very common way for them to do work with while many countries already streamlined alot of their process digitally.

    4:12 Also came from the Harinacs series, the SLN-MPH105 is even better that it does not penetrate the papers but just bind them together on the edge.

    The Kokoyu ruler is just an engineers rule (that’s what they are called in the UK, think it’s the same in the UK)- you can pick them up from any tool shop. Starting from the edge is for measuring, not so great for students drawing graphs etc though

    I loved those Coco Fusen sticky notes! They would be even better if the card-looking holder also hold a flat pen/pencil.
    I would definitely consider carrying one of those as a man without a purse.

    I own a harinacs. It's super useful if you don't really mind some of the corners useless. Also, careful when pulling the document, esp. when they're stuck; the seams are not as strong as they look.

    There is no such thing as "over engineering".
    It is like _re-inventing the wheel,_ but improving it along the way.
    I liked the clipboard and staple-less stapler. So, I ordered both 😎

    The tru-measure ruler and the stapleless stapler are the most useful items here. Everything else is unecessary or a hassle, with the possible exception of the highly portable stapler

    The only major downside I can see to that paper folder thingy is that a regular staple can go through way more pages than this thing can fold up.

  • @dave3657

    The gap at the start end of the ruler is for accuracy since the end is easily damaged and can affect the first measurement from zero .

    The clipboard is nice. Solves every little inconvenience. Rarely do I see something "over engineered" in japanese products. They mostly keep elements of simplicity in their designs.
