I was in the Legia Warsawa Stadium for both of those. It was incredible.
I've been to a German national team game with my school back in the day because they had a game in my town. I think I managed 15minutes in the stands before loitering in the concrete hallway towards the toilets for the rest, because the insane volume gave me a killer headache all the smoke didn't make it better as an asthmatic. At least I had a few beers while waiting. This was in 9th grade with 16. Beer and wine in germany is at the age of 16, harder stuff at 18 years old fyi.
In the end I didn't even knew who won 😂
Now I'm living a few hundred meters as the crow flies from the same stadium and when there is a game I can hear their chanting if I leave the house. It's insane how loud it is xD.
With all due respect mate why we can have flares is because it's called freedom of expression, and both Western and Eastern Europe has that. We can chant what we want, bring flares and have banners saying what we want. Unfortunately if you don't have that then you are living in a country that is not a free democratic country.
Regarding your question about how everybody knows the chants: there's no training in advance. These chants were sang by generations and when you go to the stadium with your father as a little kid, you won't be in the middle of the Ultras stand, but you learn them. When you're old enough and decide to join the Ultras, you know already everything you need to know. Additionally, there are always guys (Capos) who're coordinating the chants and choreos.
I'm an Englishman that lived for years in Istanbul Turkey. One of my favourite things to do on a weekend was go for a walk and chill out in Yildiz Park. It was a beautiful place, woodland, ponds, bars and ice cream. Families and children type of place. One weekend I said to my beautiful Turkish girlfriend who I lived with where I was going (and remember I went most weekends) and she was horrified. No, please don't go this weekend she said. Why I said. She told me Galatasaray (my local team - I lived in Galata), were playing a local derby with Beşiktaş in their home ground that was near Yildiz Park. Apparently both team fans go there before and after the match to kick the fuck out of each other. As I didn't speak Turkish, she was really scared I might be killed!
I went there anyway (I am a Brit after all). There was a bit of a kerfuffle (argy bargy fighting) but everyone was really lovely to anyone not involved with the teams. Both sets of supporters got me real drunk, buying all my beer. And they did it together. Arguing but in a great piss take way. One of the best days out I had there.
I really miss Istanbul. I really miss the Turkish people.
Ahhhh, good old football riots/fights. I do Miss then 1970s/1980s football. They were pretty excitable back then!

The stadiums in Europe are built to withstand 'bouncing'. It can can be bit alarming if you're on the lower tier and ceiling is literally moving. But it's safe.

well that is because of lessons learned from the mistakes of earlier generations in poor building design and bad safety protocols. , we have had some serious collapses and other forms of stadiumrelated disasters here in Europe with a lot of deaths and injuries back in the days.
For example the Hillsborough disaster with 97 deaths and 766 injuries back in 1989, The wall collapse at the Heysel stadium with 39 deaths and 600 injuries in 1985, The Bastia's Furiani Stadium collapse in France back in 1992 killed 18 people and injured more than 2,300 people, many of them seriously. A fire killed 56 people and injured more than 200 people at the Valley Parade stadium in Bradford back in 1985. Around 340 people were crushed to death in a UEFA Cup match between Spartak Moscow and the Dutch team HFC Haarlem at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow back in 1982.

@@jessicapayne8622 you've got to think of European football as sort of religion it runs through your family your friends and your bones, passion is passed from birth from Father to son and so forth and has generations behind it, it simply can't be copied, its in your blood and I'm sorry to say that its just not in the American way of supporting a team, here in Europe you'll die for your club, you'll cry for your club and pray for your club, that's passion and love .

I love your reactions to watching fans and Ultras - you are right it is electrifying. Remember that some of the clubs are over a hundred years old and their fans pass down their support from generation to generation. It is a way of life to fans and Ultras especially. I think there are a few that have subtitles if you look for them. I also wish you would watch a video of a derby played in Morocco because the Tifus and flares, etc. are insane. Oh, one more thing, if you do go to watch a match in Europe make sure you chose one that is a derby or between great rivals because that is when you get the kind of excitement. you have seen in the video.
A couple of things. They aren't allowed to bring flares either, but they sneak them in using various ways like putting them between butt cheecks for security. And in the Naples clip, the lower stand is nearly empty because the ultras are wild and they could storm the field way too easily.
FunFact: Dynamo Dresden is in the 3rd division in germany and still has so many fans in the stadium
You have to be aware that in many countries the scenes you've seen only can be found at derbies or special matches. If you go to greece to a random match and expect to see scenes as in the video: forget it. Only to their big matches you see that. Same in Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, etc. Turkey is very good, Germany Bundesliga almost all matches are sold out. Dynamo Dresden you've seen in the video is 2nd league. Italy often is ok, but only highlight matches are really good visited.

Yes, in europe (other parts of the world, too) it is all about passion. The clubs play for their fans and the fans "play" for the club. They have a deal: we are here for you and you are here for us.
In USA it is mostly about entertainment and money in pro sports. It is mostly a business.
Ultras gives me the creeps, weird flashbacks, the blocks look like warzones but then I also get goosebumps and start to tear up.
It kinda shows, how easy it is to get large crowds to do what one person wants, if you just get them to be passionate about a common goal or purpose. 👀
Ive been to alot of european away days with Arsenal, Frankfurt were definitely up there with the best, I left the ground with a headache! any frankfurt fans here, class.
When I think of ultras I think of violence, but in this video it’s just passionate fans making an intimidating atmosphere for the opposing team. Can’t comment on what might happen before or after the game of course.
As an Irish person I’d love to go to some of these, I think you’d be pretty safe once you’re supporting the team of the fans you are around 😅 beers before and enjoy the atmosphere 🎉

And outside of EU you have Brazil or Argentina where you will get shot or stabbed on the wrong game day. They control the clubs overthere.
wasn’t very into football growing up but i went to my first football game a 10 years ago because of the girlfriend , i never knew any chants but got hooked on the very first game and knew what to do after and been going every week since
The rules about flares, at least in The Netherlands, are that if you get caught. It’s just not that strongly enforced but wear a mask or put on your a hoodie just so the camera’s can’t easily recognize you.

- when banned for at least 12 months you’ll also receive a fine of €450 at the first offence. If you reoffend during this period you’ll receive an additional fine of €900, for your 3rd offence one for €1500 and for every offence after that a fine for €2000 max.

Also the club might get fined (as the Warsaw one showed by EUFA, hence the pig the greedy bastards) with a fine between 10.000 and 55.000 euro/pound.

As far as cheering is concerned, it all came from Eastern Europe, people, young men and boys who don't have money for going out and partying, they wait and collect money for a ticket, for that one day when it's the city derby to go out and show their passion, their flags, their songs.
They are all good people who simply love their clubs. When they comment, you are built differently, we are not, and we are people who want to have a good time, even if it means shouting and jumping in the stadium. But once you get hooked, there is no going back.

If there is any video out there you should check out the best/loudest south american Football fans.They are definitely on the same level as the europeans. Especially argentinian fans. They are insane.
South America are another level
Argentina has the best,most mental football fans,and also for their rock fans.

One thing that I would like you to do however is add subtitles. I know it's a bit of extra work, but for many of us who have bad hearing it would be a godsend. Especially we who aren't Americans that struggle with understanding accents.
I use the automatic subtitles, but they're not very good. They help, but sometimes it gets really weird.

Funny anecdote: to handle the jump etc, tha stadium actually waves in its entirety. So sometimes when you jump you land like 10 cm higher.

@@falt.a738 Firms is the word you are searching for. But it is not the same as with ultras. It´s similar, but different. Less organized. No flares or even that many flags, but more centered on chants it is less visual.

Ultra culture was stamped out, used to be firms of hooligans. The stadium extravagance wasn't there, but the violence definitely was.

I am a former Ultra from my countrys 2nd biggest club, however I must state that many of these clips are taken from derby matches. Especially those clubs from Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece has really fantastic sounds butonly at derbies. In western europe the more modern the stadiums is the ratio of jumping ultras begins to fall because you also have females and kids watching, and offcourse theres the PremLeague..... boring because its basically tourists watching the games.
If we ever go back to hand to hand fighting on a battlefield.
Should just go get people from these stadiums.
Hearing these things from across the field would put terror into people.
And was a very common tactic.
In fact battles have been one based on this fear factor.
Also as a note to the pyro stuff you see.
It is banned, and clubs get fined for it, and fans get banned from stadiums because of it.
All the those making the rules have really started to step up again it the last 5 years.
You just don't find the background to the rivalries in the US. Different colleges?
Take Liverpool. Blue-collar Liverpool FC vs. white-collar Everton FC.
Or Spain: Franco-loyalists for Real Madrid vs. Catalunyian Barcelona FC
Or Glasgow: Catholic Celtic vs. protestant Rangers.
There's more than just football to it.

You will notice many teams have the word "GATE" and a number. Ex GATE 4 and this is like the gate were the Ultras sit or used to and each team has one different
you have to understand the Technology that Europe has, they know for what the stadums are building for and just not to go far they are asked to do technology for all over the World.
Ultras are mostly italians, portuguese, turkish and greek. German and Ducth fans are cool too. The eastern European fans seems to be amazing really!

you know what brother? I live in Athens, Greece. which includes Olympiacos Panathinaikos and AEK Athens. I've seen all kinds of things, people beating up each other for their club OR in most cases best friends who support different clubs watch the game hugged together. Its not only in sports. My point is that american people (from the eyes of a balkan european person) dont have emotion in their life. No passion about anything? No love for something that unites people? I mean you could understand exaclty what am i saying by watching Original21 (aek fans) vs Olympiacos back in 2015-2016... we were relegated because of financial stuff and it was our first derby in 3 years. So, on the stadium we used to play, there were 68.000 seats. 72.000 people watched the game. I was in there too, it felt like 72k people were one, one voice, one family... Thats what life is about, especially in the bad parts of europe like mine. Passion, love, expression of what we are. Thats what i believe is the difference between the us crowds and the european atmospheres.
P.S. I would love to see you react on the first match of AEK Athens in our new home, our new stadium. It was built this year and we waited for it for like 20 years, when our old one got destroyed from an earthquake. it was a burning hell. you should def watch it!

As for the last point, those fans are not just as supporters of the local team: "Тиват" (reads as "Tivat", they are Montenegro, other country), "Шабац" (Shabac) is way off mileage from Belgrade, and there are fans. Basically it is radiant of of 700 kilometers that come supporting these games. "Врачар" is Blegrade, and many groups from Republika Srpska. Point is that lots of those people had have to spend 2 days just to come for the match and go back home, but still are in unison there on the match, no way they could practice or train this beforehand.
With Red Star Belgrade becoming club World Cup winners in 1991, and always in very close local tie with Partisan, both clubs attracted much further from locals to support both.
Well, 90's sanctions killed clubs, mafia took over and they play like sht now.... but there is still a talent and enough crazies to gather up to see them shine bright again.
If you really end up comming try to go see derbys. The passion is more intense. Playing a rival team is an extra boost of madness 😉

They stay in a certain place because every brigade has it's own place in the stadium , you don't stay one game in one place and other game in another place. Regarding to flares they are forbidden in Europe especially in a stadium but we still manage to smuggle them in and regarding to prison if you were a cop you would go in to that crowd to arrest the guy who lit the flare ?! Especially when they are so many

People are not being hyperbolic when they describe football as a religion. The acolytes compete with one another to show their devotion to the point of madness, be it by chants, donning special clothing, waving talismans, singing in unison or lighting votive flames. (The trouble creeps in when followers of differing sects decide to literally wage war.)
Who doesn't enjoy a good bonfire to harm-up their hands, tell stories, dance, have fun and enjoy a meal (even if most of the meal revolves around beer in excess) XD
You don't have to go that far as Europe, you can come down to Mexico and go to an Atlas-Chivas, Tigres-Monterrey or Pumas-America game and get something close the level of passion you saw on video.

As a Canadian we have to step up our chanting game at all sporting events so do the Americans as well.
The AS Saint-Etienne (ASSE) team in France is not a big club. But they have one of the best atmosphere in Europe. Because they were in the Champions League final in 1976, it was the first time for a French club. Since the whole city is supporting the club. Their "geoffroy-guichard" stadium is a temple. Their derby rivalry is against Olympique Lyonnais (OL).
L'Olympique de Marseille (OM) has the reputation of having the best atmosphere in France. t is the second largest city in the country. It is a popular city, the fervor for the club has been legendary for almost 50 years. They won the Champions League in 1993, the first and only French club to have won it. They have several rival teams, but the biggest derby is against Paris St-Germain (PSG). Their stadium is the "velodrome" it is a cauldron.

About the chant we learn it watching the matchs on tv. I know the channts of a lot of clubs that I don't support 🤣🤣🤣 but heard it each time I watch a match so at the end we know them even of otjer clubs.... I never support italians clubs but know their chants and I could sing a lot of songs of differents clubs of Europe 🤣🤣🤣 i'm 50 years old and watch football since I'm 10 so I heard them for 40 years.... And even if we don't sing for other club I m sure that all the Europeans who watch the champion's League know all the songs 🤣🤣🤣 after we won't sing for others clubs 🤣🤣🤣 but we know it !!

The Italian matches played in euro zone crash countries like Italy, Greece and Spain were drastically affected with high unemployment so people couldn't afford to attend matches. Also, if a European game likely limited numbers from uefa due to Italians violence

Dissappointed yes YNWA is anthemic at Celtic ,but the Green Brigade Ultra fans group is where you get the noisiest raucous fans with great displays and use of pyro,none of these videos have ever captured that intensity

4:25 the lower stands at Napoli have a pretty shitty view. On TV and from this video the view looks fine but once you actually sit in that lower tier especially in the lower seats you can just about see over the adboards on the sides because the pitch is raised slightly high.

Always surprises me just how much college football seems to be truly loved more than the NFL in America.
According to my American friend it’s because they are playing for their future job and it’s more interesting and enjoyable because of that . Don’t know if others share the opinion but he watches college football but not the NFL .
Many are playing for their future job, others are playing for the sheer passion and love of the game. 72k players and only 259 are selected to the pros each year in the draft and maybe another 200 are picked up as undrafted free agents and not many of them stick with teams.
