    A month ago , I took delivery of a brand new CZ455 Varmint thumbhole with the heavy barrel . I torqued the action screws and tuned the trigger with a lighter spring . Off a bipod with good match ammo , it averages about .500 for 5 shots at 50M with a 15x scope . Not too bad . I just took delivery of a brand new Anshutz MPR . Using the same scope and bipod and shooting at the same range , it averaged .340 for five , 5 shot groups at 50M . This is the very first time shooting the rifle with zero tuning and zero ammo testing .and zero fliers . Both are great rifles , but in my case , the Anshutz is definitely , considerably more accurate . Huge price difference , but , the Anshutz is better .

      As much as I love CZs, your post doesn't surprise me. I suspected the Anshutz would be a bit more accurate.

    I used Anschutz match rifles & air guns in State & National competition for 20 + years. Every US gold medal won in world shooting matchs was done with a Model 54 Anschutz . They have remained at the forefront of international shooting as the world leader. It has been the choice of champions setting record after record at the Olympic Games, World Cups and national shooting competitions. At 50 meters (55 yards ) they shoot 10 shot groups you can cover with a US Dime at 100 yards you can do it with a US nickle. They like Eley TENEX ammo the best. The reason the barrel is larger at the end is NOT for a iron sight as a higher sight base can be installed to raise the front sight if needed. Anschutz uses that area to hold the barrel while applying pressure to the end to insure that production barrels maintain match quality barrel after barrel because the end of the barrel is what needs to be the tightest.....Always buy the best, you always get your money back in the end.

    Firearms definitely have a cost to performance curve. Performance goes up with cost rapidly until you reach a certain point, and then cost rises rapidly but the performance only increases slightly. The same thing can be said about sports cars.

    Great video...... I agree, for the casual shooter, the CZ is an outstanding firearm. I guess if you have the money and want a serious rim fire rifle then the Anschutz is the one to get, but after seeing some of the accuracy results it kinda makes you wonder ( by the way, Koko Head Range isn't the easiest range to do accuracy work on...often times it's like shooting in a wind tunnel...lol). I'm thinking a trigger kit on that CZ like the one from "Yo-Dave" would do wonders. I'll be at Koko Head tomorrow with a CZ 452 Ultra Lux that I picked up and just put a scope on and will see how the accuracy is (this rifle has a trigger kit in it and is almost scary light).
    Take care and aloha....

      irishd, I have both of these rifles the Anschutz64MPR and the CZ455 . I put the Yo-Dave lightest trigger spring on my CZ. .8oz pull and my Anschutz has .7-.8oz. pull and I like the CZ trigger better. I can’t get the creep out of the #5097 Anschutz trigger. The adjustment is all the way outie(counter clockwise and still have the same creep I am not a fan of the two stage trigger for competition.

  • @Number6oftheBoys

    Both are excellent riffles and more than accurate enough for the casual shooter or hunter. In a match setting when you're counting X's instead of 10 rings, I'd opt for the Anschutz. By the time you barrel the CZ, do the stock work or especially replace the stock you are at the Annie price and you still have the CZ trigger. The factory Anschutz triggers are fantastic out of the box.

    I have the 452 FS (Mannlicher stock) which preceded the 455. Even with the shorter barrel on the FS (about 2" shorter than the American), it is an incredibly accurate rifle. No problem with dime groups of 5 at 50 yards, and even at 100 yards very accurate. I improved the trigger simply by changing the spring. Wouldn't knock the Anschutz, but for the money, for the average shooter, can't beat CZ. The Czechs know how to build firearms. (Well, so do the Germans but...)

    I have an Anschutz andr CZs. I have four CZ's because after buying a CZ 75 pistol years ago, and discovering just what a great gun it was, I decided to try a CZ.22 rifle when they first arrived in this area. I became an immediate CZ fan, and acquired more rifles and a number of CZ pistols in varying calibers. Dollar for dollar i believe they are among the top values in the industry, in terms of quality of fdinish and materials and accuracy against more high dollar guns. When I find a CZ 7.62X39 it will have a new home too.

    • @boeing900

      And when you do find it you will love it. I have an stock M&M AK 47 that marvels other AK owners I've met at the range with its accuracy and consistently. My CZ 527 Carbine 7.62x39 blows it away. In 22lr's I have 3 CZ 453's (American, Varmint & Lux), 2 455's (Tacticool & a Full Stock) and a 452 FS. Now I know there are many variables but based on what I saw here any one of my CZ's out shoots that Anne, and with no extraction problems I may add.

    Hello Hawaii, In order to compare the accuracy of the 2 rifles, I would recommend you enlist a serious Benchrest shooter. He will have a proper front rest and rear sandbags. And most important, he will have many years experience. Also you would/ should use 4 or 5 different types of ammunition. PS: most shooters are willing to share their knowledge and experience, (which makes shooting unique to other sports.) :)

I wouldn't call a sock full of gravel used as a rear bag something outside of attainable equipment for a new shooter. I wouldn't say the knowledge to have proper benchrest form is "fancy bs". It's as attainable as having internet access and being literate. If anything, using an optic instead of peep sights would be the fancy part.

    Extraction issues... I have both a CZ 455 in .22LR and a Sako 75 Varmint in .222 Rem. Both have very high quality scopes. The Sako will easily shoot about half-MOA at 100 yards if I don't mess up; the CZ will shoot larger, but still under 1 MOA if I don't mess up. Your shots with the CZ are very good; your one-hole group is impressive. Now - extraction - the funny thing is that my much more expensive Sako has problems just like your Anschütz. It's annoying to have 3 or 4 rounds out of 5 fall back into the action. I think the extractor spring is just too weak. Thank you for a good video.

    I've two CZ455s with several barrels. It's a great feature to be able to change calibers with barrels. However, once you've settled down on your purpose's requirement (like hunting with 17hmr or paper target with 22lr, and achieved what you'd think is the Best accuracy/repeatability possible), you're likely to leave the barrel alone and rarely change it again!! AND with the price, you may as well get another CZ455 for another caliber that you would like to have, and have it READY to shoot.I'm a BenchRest guy and have determined that the Best 22LR BRest CZ455 is a Synthetic stock with American (tapered) barrel, with the following modifications:1. Replace the trigger spring with a spring cut from 10/22 recoil spring, cut to 80% of original CZ trigger spring length. Then pull it out slightly to 90%, to make it put just enough pressure for the sear to latch. This gave me about 10-ounce trigger.2. rub the sear engagement surfaces, from inside to the sear edge (to insure sharp break) about 10 times with 1000grit sand paper. This will smooth it out.3. Stuff Play-Doh into the crevice back of the synthetic stock and the handle part, to full. Then recap. This makes the stock heavier BUT extremely steady and damps vibration.4. Bed full length of barrel with Devcon and Pillar the two bolt (buy pillar sleeve on ebay).With 18x Redfield scope, I can consistently get 0.220-0.250" grouping of 5 shots at 50yards, with Eley Target or SK Std+ ammo. The best group thus far is 0.150" !! I've scour local market, because I know I can modify them to be good guns, for resell of CZ455 but can't find any, for a year now. Meanwhile, I've had people approach me to sell Annie. So I disagree with the notion that Annies are hard to find and CZ455 resell is "everywhere". That's just baloney. I don't see the point of paying the equivalence of 2-3 more CZ455s for an Annie, just to get only 0.100" better than what I am getting with CZ455 group-ability. Perhaps that's why people try to sell me their Annies.

  • @alfonsorodriguez6437
    @alfonsorodriguez6437 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Anschutz rifles ares for skilled shooters with top match ammunition. The regular shooter will not see a great difference between an "Annie" and a good but regular, run of the mill 22. The M1913 can put 10 rounds at 50 meters into a one quarter of an inch consistently. Besides, it is a competition rifle, not a hunting rifle. So stay with the CZ, it makes more sense for the average skill level shooting average ammo. I am showing personal bias, but I own two Annies, an M1913 competition and a M1416 sporter/hunting rifle. Both are accurate but for different purposes. The difference? the M1913 Super Match ($3000.00) is a 1/4 inch rifle heavy weight for 3 position shooting and the M1416 is a 1/2 inch rifle light weight ($1200.00) for hunting and sports shooting. The ammunition used is paramount, cheap ammo will give you less than mediocre results in any rifle and good ammo with will the opposite in most rifles but precision rifles will always do light years better and that justifies the cost for the precision user. As the saying goes, "it is not a rifle, it is an Anschutz"

Using pre-2018 made Wolf MT and ME ammo, and firing off a bench with a cheap UTG bipod....I'm getting close to 1/2" groups at 50 yds. Like you......I can't very often get all 5 shots to "hold-hands" ...as you say...but often get close. All-up price including the Tasco Varmint 6-24 mil-dot scope ( no longer made) and Burris Signature Z rings....about $350 in 2015 dollars. (Aside.....I've looked at the build-architecture of Annie 64 vs this Savage, and see a remarkable similarity in design between the two . Its worth every penny no doubt.
    I own the CZ 455 Varmint in. 22mag and. 17hmr.
    I can put a groundhogs eye out at 250yds with very little effort with my .17hmr.
    The. 22mag is also extremely accurate. More accurate than most. 22mags.
    If you put all of the refining quality in the CZ that is found in the other rifle, it would be extremely difficult to choose the Anschutz rifle.
    My guns kill. They don't punch paper.
    CZ rimfire rifles feel and shoulder like big game rifles.
    The CZ that you show is a field rifle.
    The other rifle has a lot of features heading more toward a target rifle.
    The CZ brand is a superb product.
    They do everything extremely well.
    At $456 I have a extremely well made and accurate platform in each rifle.
    For a working man, I couldn't have done better.

    Bolt was smoother and it ejected the fired cases as it should.
    Even brand new out of the box new rifles need to be cleaned and oiled before the first shot is fired.
    I shot a bunch of different 22 LR ammo to find what my rifle shot the best.
    Mini-Mags,40gr RN, Auto Match 40gr RN, and Federal American Eagle, 5 shots, all holes touching.

    The 64 action is the entry level action, their target rille action is the 54. A huge difference between the two. Barrels (Lothar Walther) is the same on a 64 and a 54.

    I always wondered about that because I can shoot the same with most 22lr rifles. I know some feel better but on target about the same so I always liked the lighter weight Vs. the fanciest rifle.

    You put that anschutz in my hands with the right rest set up/ and right match ammo, you would lose everytime with the CZ. Oh, and do a bit of research instead of complaining about how the CZ chambers ammo easier. The Anchutz will have a tighter chamber( match reamed) that seats only certain match rounds because the the rifling engages with the bullet driving band. True accuracy potential wasn't even close to being shown with either of the rifles used.

    @scottobrian845 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That was a good review. I agree with your assessment, for the average guy and shooter using stock ammo. The CZ is the way to go. A $400 rifle vs $1,000 rifle with comparable optics, why spend the extra $600. Will the $1,000 rifle have a better resale value of course and as was stated before is a great family heirloom. One thing though, match Grade ammo may reduce the flyers for your tests.

    • @jimhamilton3544
      @jimhamilton3544 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bryan Moore, about only accurizing needed is a Yo- Dave trigger kit the; correct scope, and rail for your type of shooting and the ammo it likes best. The barrel is free floated and the action in my CZ455 is actually a little smoother that my Anschutz64MPR and that is impressive. The 64MPR IS DEFINITELY NOT A RIFLE FOR HUNTING AS it will wear you out it is so darn heavy.

    The 455 CZ trigger is adjustable. Take the action out of the stock and the adjustment screw is right there, takes less than 5 minutes. My 455 breaks like glass and I did not have to waste money on an aftermarket trigger.

    Hmmm.... I have never owned or shot either the 455 or the Anshutz. I do own a CZ 452 in .22lr and it is "accurate", very accurate! With the right ammunition and proper shooting technique, that 452 will easily put shots into sub .25 inch at 55 yards and often groups into one hole at that distance. I don't recall what I paid for it, around 400 bucks I believe. I cannot see paying 1200 bucks for a rifle that might out shoot it by a few thousands of an inch, if in fact it can! CZ has their act together when it comes to building high quality firearms at very affordable prices. Personally, I wouldn't trade my CZ 452 for anything else out there for any reason! My CZ shoots extremely small groups, is extremely reliable, is a very handsome rifle and holds its zero.
    I like my 452 so much that I purchased a CZ 457 in .17 HMR and am in the process of deciding what scope to put on it! I have every confidence that it to, will be a shooter... Now, about that model 550 in .416 Rigby! :)

  • @ou812also5
    @ou812also5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The extraction issues are likely related to the tighter match chamber of the Anschutz.

  • @pepperoni-prepper
    @pepperoni-prepper 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    its funny that both the cz and the anschutz are beyond the skill level of the shooter and the quality of the ammunition, which makes this whole discussion pointless.
    the cz452 when tuned and matched to ammunition such as the sk rifle match, will shoot sub 0.4moa with a skilled shooter at 50m. all these targets really indicate is the cz firing pin and bolt needed cleaning, and the tightest group over all was shot by the CZ lol.
    The Anschutz 64 is the benchmark for target rifles world wide, yet the CZ455 "American" is not even the most accurate rifle in the CZ .22lr range and is designed specifically as a multi caliber "light"field rifle for scope use.
    Ive been testing tactical scopes for an optics company for a few years now and the CZ452 lux is sub 0.4moa at 50m if matched to quality ammunition. I have not had a single flier over 0.7moa in over 1000 rounds. The CZ452 lux is meant as a field rifle, but can be found in long distance .22 range shooting, 50m target shooting, and is a legend within the hunting community.

    • @pepperoni-prepper
      @pepperoni-prepper 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      looking at the targets closely, there are suspicious groupings for both rifles which indicate neither is well tuned.
      firing pin spring on the CZ is stringing, which indicates it is possibly fouled, or needs the spring replaced with a heavier spring for the ammunition being used.
      The Anschutz has a different problem. you can see the multiple grouping points on at least 3 of the targets, which could indicate harmonic variations. This could be due to an obstruction making contact with the barrel or incorrect tensions etc.
      obviously, another reason could simply be poor shooting.
      when you buy any rifle, it is likely to need tuning, ammunition matching, and fine adjustment to obtain a high level of accuracy. even after matching ammunition, changing out the trigger, firing pin spring and replacing the stock, the cz455 will still be cheaper than the Anschutz, and will probably rival a "stock" Anschutz 64 MPR. If you were going to go into the Olympics however, you would be unlikely to use a CZ455 lol.

      pepperoni prepper, I have both the Cz455 and the Anschutz64M PR with the weaver 36 power target scope ie( same exact set up)and the two are very accurate at 200yds. BR f- Class, using Eley Match ammo. However when it comes to the Olympics ie the South Korean Winter Olympics Anschutz rifles in every competition both women and men placed Gold,Silver and Bronze medals. There was not another make of rifle that placed period. Of course those are special custom rifles. Google it.

    • @jimhamilton3544
      @jimhamilton3544 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I shoot 200yds with the exact 64mpr set up and have the CZ455 with the Weaver T36 used in both rifles as well as a 6x18 scope in the CZ455
      I have tested atleast 12 different hi-end .22 target ammo in both rifles.
      The Anschutz is very specific on certain kinds of ammo at 200 yds. and the CZ not so.
      I would agree with everything in this video except the 64M PR is now $1350 + tax and also the magazine takes two hands to release it 👎🏻etc...
      If I had to do it again I think I would Buy a CZ in the trainer version with a H B & longer barrel than 20.5” and if it shoots any better than my CZ455 it woukd easily be more accurate than the ANSCHUTZ 64M PR.
      The best ammo for my Anschutz M PR is ELEY MATCH (B+) so far 🤔 and I have tried Lapua CENTER X, ((C), wALL the Federal Match brands ie(FED. TARGET (C), FED MATCH (C+), HV MATCH (C+), FED. HV MATCH (B),
      RWS Rifle Match (C-), RWS SPECIAL MATCH (C), FED. Ultra Match (C+),
      Eley Contact (C+), ELEY TARGET (C-), ELEY EDGE (B), ELEY TENEX (B), CCI STD.(C-), etc...
      This was with the M PR64,
      at 200yds. No wind 74 degrees
      The best ammo with the CZ455 at 100yds. with a 6X18 cheap scope was RWS LONG RANGE MATCH (A)👍 $8.50/ box from Champions choice.
      My favorite RIFLE is turning back too the CZ455 🙄. The action is smoother than the ANSCHUTZ 64, 😏 is much lighter and so far is almost tied for accuracy 🤫. my only complaint with CZ 455 is the stock is too short and primarily made for a youth or girl which I don’t understand why it is so short 🥴

Such as American Rimfire Assoc. benchrest shoots,, mini palma events and metallic shilouette matches? They don,t. At the last mini palma event I attened Anschutz took the top three spots. Anschutz 1710 and 1712 with their 54 actions and triggers are the most accurate and reliable off the shelf 22 rimfire rifle made. What else would explain their popularity and the $2,200 price?

    CZ should put their set trigger on the 455. They used to have it standard on some of their 22s.He didn't state what ammo he was using, or the distance he was shooting at (was it 50 or 100 yds?) If that was 100 yds that's nothing to be ashamed of off a bag with average target ammo (not Eley Black or Red Box).

      There is a nut on the trigger spring to adjust tension but I'm not sure about adjusting the weight lighter than 3-4 lbs with a stock trigger spring. There's the YoDave kit that includes shim tubes to adjust sear engagement so you can take it all the creep which would be more important to me than just lightening the trigger.

    Whether it's casual or serious, the accuracy potential of a rifle does not change or get detracted. To even say they both shoot the same soley based on your ability of accuracy testing, of which you pointed out is not that great, is not a justifiable statement. You also pointed out the CZ can be upgraded to match the Anshutz, that's a broad statement. Theres differnet Anschutz actions, the economy 64 like that your comparing here and theres the true match grade 54. So to clarify, the CZ can shoot with the Anschutz 64 after upgrading to a better than factory Lilja barrel, a bedded stock, and trigger work. But now that the CZ has run you up to the cost of an Anschutz 64 and the Anschutz still has a better trigger. But even after building up that CZ it won't match the Anschutz 54.
