    We've had a bevy of comments asking about the shooting grip I'm using with my thumb rested on the right side of the receiver (on the safety selector) as opposed to wrapped around the pistol grip. No, it doesn't have anything to do with ridiculous California-Style grip 'laws'....It's a technique that I learned from a few PRS shooters some years ago (there's also plenty of threads on Sniper's Hide and elsewhere if you'd like to read up on it). 'Parallel Thumb Technique' is what it was described to me as and is meant to allow a better 90 degree contact with the trigger as well as less torque on the wrist (and thus translated to the rifle). I find it to be dramatically more comfortable in the prone than trying to wrap my thumb around the pistol grip of most firearms. It's also how I shoot bolt guns to allow for a slightly faster access to the bolt...so, cross platform consistency.
    I use it almost universally when setting up on distance targets, and if you go back and watch even some of our oldest content, you'll see me using it...Henry on the other hand prefers wrapping his thumb 'more standard' around the grip. Both techniques are perfectly viable.
    Hope you enjoy the vid.
    -Josh

A scoped AR-10 can fit either of the three types depending on its application and intended use.

      @@lucastonoli3256 usually 5 shots per group, I can't really afford 9 shot groups when some of this stuff is $2 or more per round. This rifle wasn't built for accuracy but mostly for weight. Most AR10s are 10lbs+ empty with the SASS being 15lbs. My AR10 is 7.5lbs empty, 9lbs loaded with a 20rd PMAG and MBUS Pro sights.

    • @saccaed
      @saccaed 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Running a similar setup with a 20" version of faxon's pencil barrel and have managed reliable ~1MOA groups shooting winchester match ammo. Your other reply about weight is spot on as well. Without scope my build comes in at ~8lbs, with scope 10.6lbs without magazine of course. If I end up finding an adjustable carbon fiber stock that I like, that will probably shave another lb off(running a heavy magpul stock atm). Once I get a bunch of ammo to do more rigorous testing I have no doubt that sub moa is doable with good ammo. That also will be a good time to see how the group size opens up once everything heats up. So far all my shooting has been a box at a time and not enough to build up much heat.

    what's with the 3:47 trigger press?

    • @shootinbruin3614
      @shootinbruin3614 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A consequence of a small grip and/or a relatively heavy trigger I suspect. A small grip's short LOP tends to make pulling with finger contact near the proximal phalange (the part closest to the knuckle) easier than pulling with the distal phalange (where the fingernail is), especially for those with larger hands. Some shooters also find it easier to control heavier triggers in slow fire this way, although given that the trigger in the video looks like a two-stage, it probably isn't very heavy

  • @Lynyrd_Evnyrd
    @Lynyrd_Evnyrd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I like that I made my own poverty version of this with my M&P10. I’ve got the same SLR rail, adjustable gas block, Geissele SSA-E trigger and Silencerco omega suppressor.
    I just use the stock M&P10 18” barrel though. I haven’t seen sub-MOA groups but that may be a limitation of my shooting skills rather than the capability of the gun.
    I mostly shoot German surplus with it and it’s a hugely fun gun to shoot at steel silhouette targets out to 500 yards.

    • @randomidiot8142
      @randomidiot8142 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you have any issues with yours from the factory? My one experience with them was one that came with a finger tight barrel nut and didn't shoot anything better than paper plate accurate like that.

    • @Lynyrd_Evnyrd
      @Lynyrd_Evnyrd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randomidiot8142 I didn’t have any issues like that. When I free floated the gun with an SLR rail, I had to remove the stock barrel nut and I don’t recall it being loose and easy to remove like that.
      As for accuracy, I don’t shoot a lot of match ammo with the gun, (not at all before I free floated it), but it was certainly not outside of 4 MOA accurate.
      I haven’t shot for groups in a long while but I will say even free floated the accuracy hasn’t been amazing for me. When I was zeroing it for a new scope I wasn’t able to get better than 2 MOA out of Gold Medal match 175gr. Again, this may be my shooting skills not the gun.
      It’s been a long while now since I shot those groups with match ammo and I think I’m a better shot than I used to be. Maybe it’s time I take this back to the indoor range and try shooting for groups again.

    The varying patterns and ability to mismatch components on an AR10 should be a word of warning to folks who don't fully understand the platform. Throwing a DPMS 2.5" buffer into an SR25 intermediate tube or reverse is a formula for hurt. Truly amazing to see the capabilities of modern rifles, the price is garentee sticker shock, but the capabilities of such accuracy and yet still be able to utilize it in close to mid engagements as a heavy duty gun I think out way having a dedicated bolt gun in modern combat/disruptive environments. As Clint Smith always said is the biggest heaviest rifle isn't big enough when bullets are flying over your head 🤣

    As a PRS competition shooter that has a secret obsession with gas guns, you could run a semi auto to the same level of a bolt gun. My .308 gasser is fast and similarly accurate. I will say that the gas gun takes more effort to shoot at the same level - meaning more solid fundamentals. You can get away with more mistakes on a bolt action for sure.

      Still trying to make sense of what you're saying. It's your experience and not theory. Natural point of aim on the bolt guns is better.. McMillan a5 type stocks vs chassis vs semi makes a difference? And fundamentals.. your head telling you to hurry up and pull the trigger on a semi where on a bolt you know you don't have a fast follow up so you slow down?

    You can easily get this performance at a fraction of the cost. Like with any AR15 DMR build, make sure you install a match grade barrel and a decent trigger. A good scope doesn't have to be very much either. The rest of the gun can be the cheapest parts you are able to find.

    Nice video. I like the requirement discussion and the way you presented the accuracy data. On to the product: Nicely done, very heavy and high price. It should better do its job. I have only shot a Heckler & Koch MR 308 with a 16" barrel and a Steiner MX 5i. Nice gun, very heavy, very accurate and very expensive..... Main probelm with this guns besides the price: they are way more capable as most of the folks who are pulling the trigger.

    Thanks for all the work and data! I've started to notice when a rifle with a pistol grip is being shot rested, the shooter often positions their thumb above and on the same side as the trigger finger rather than wrapping it around the grip in a traditional manner, I also notice you alternate back and forth depending on when you are resting the rifle or shooting unsupported. Does doing this when the rifle is supported, take the thumb out of the equation to reduce possible lateral torque on the grip and ergo the rifle affecting accuracy? Just curious, cheers! Okay just saw your pinned comment on this, oops, sorry!
