This is so interesting! I have never gave much thought to using diagonal lines, yet, when I look at the final version of the piece I did from your Free 3-day challenge back in May, I totally see it. And not necessarily in the floral components - although they are there, too - but in the blue open areas. I can see it subtly in a couple of other pieces I've painted since then as well. Really eye-opening. Thank you, Andrea!
Oh I am so glad to hear that! Good for you to analyze those visual choices you made, and now it will help you to be even more conscious as you continue to paint.
@@Maranatha1927 great question. When I say push and pull, I am referring to when you push hard on your paintbrush or drawing tool and create a thicker or darker line. That often makes the line appear as if it is closer to the viewer. Pulling is when you are touching the canvas or paper but your pulling away a little bit so that you are making a lighter mark. This lighter mark tends to appear further away in the picture plane. Does that help?
